#1 Post by pemasu »

Dpup Expimo 5.X.3.4.12 has been uploaded. It is mainly bug fix release.

Updates. Firefox-16.01 due to critical vulnerabilities in 16.0. Mplayer recompiled with external dvdnav and dvdread. PupMenu and PupSnap updated to the latest. Pavrecord and Precord updated to the latest.

Ati-Amd-Catalyst 12.6 and 12.8 uploaded to the repo and added to the PPM exprimo database.

Savefile creation at first shutdown happens now in X, wmpoweroff and wmreboot has been synced with the woof.

And. Thanks rcrsn51 for the eee.ko module. Anikin can now test it. Kernel is the same in 5.X.3.4.12 ie 3.4.2.

Previous announcement:
Dpup Expimo 5.X.3.4.11 has been released. Latest woof2 has been used.

Updated applications. Gtk-youtube-viewer, Firefox, Movgrab, Pmusic, Pburn, Getflash, Gnome-mplayer, Gecko-mediaplayer, Mplayer, PupControl. PupRadio/PupTelly, Mhwaveedit, MtPaint, Sys-Info.
Mplayer has possible bluray support now.

New applications. Multimedia section: Pavrecord ( it has webcam recording and screencast properties also ), Precord. Internet section: Pfetch. Network section: Peasy port LAN scanner, Premote rdesktop, YASM samba share app ( alternative for Pnethood ). Setup section: LazY FreD universal repository downloader ( easy way to test different sfs apps, to see if they work ). Use at your own responsibility from other Puplet repos. Graphic section: Screeny added for screenshots.

Some script updates, sfs2pet Rox right click added, rar extraction right click updated, etc....

Mostly this build was created to offer uptodate puplet. Youtube has changed the url handling or something and all youtube apps needed updating. At the same time I compiled mplayer backend and gui frontend updates...so it was time to throw this puplet for community testing. Probably I will need to fix the bugs and then release bug fix release soon.....But lets see....

In exprimo repo for multimedia: Smplayer (with subtitles autodownloader), Smtube, Umplayer, VLC-2.0.1, Deadbeef latest 0.5.5, Avidemux-2.55 (gtk), Avidemux-2.6 (qt), Spotify, Musescore-1.1.

IMPORTANT: Check the mdsum of the iso download before you post bug reports !!!

Fresh manual frugal install on the main Athlon XP box. No problems..... except for the fact that GetFlash doesn't like me. :)

Another mismatch with firstrun and woof

#8 Post by shinobar »

I was wondering why the Dpup asks locale in the console dialog at the first boot.
It is another mismatch with the firstrun and the recent woof.
/etc/rc.d/rc.country in the firstrun assumes the default locale is ready, that is the locale data /usr/lib/locale/en_US is in the main sfs. But the recent woof does not include the locale data in the main sfs but creat them at the first boot in the script /etc/rc.d/rc.country.

/etc/rc.d/rc.country in the firstrun can be modified to do this, but i think the default locale data is better to be in the main sfs not to consume RAM or the pupsave. An easy way is to copy the locale data /usr/lib/locale/en_US manually at the woof proccess, but i don't know the deatail of the woof proccess.

Another mismatch on the xorgwizard is already posted.

5.X327 frugal install ext4 hdd pfix=ram on dual p6100 hp. broadcom wifi driver auto-detected by frisbee and connection made without issue.

choose lang. then booted to desktop and my usb logitech mouse was not recognized.

reran quickset up first run. clicked on dead mouse button following steps did not recognize the mouse.

ran mouse wizard still did not work.

same as gcmartin reported

"Exprimo seems to be having a problem launching Xorgwizard whenit switches to text mode from the desktop. It makes the switch to text, pauses for a moment on a blank screen, then restarts the desktop without returning to FirstRUN."

had to log out then ran xorgwizard to change resolution.

GetFlash worked without issue.

will keep at it next few days. thanks

Looks good so far with one serious drawback. Boot calls for puppy_squeeze_5.X.7.sfs, however, the iso contains puppy_squeeze_5.X.3.2.7.sfs, so to boot from grub the sfs must be renamed.

Will do more complete testing tomorrow, however it's looking great.

Cheers,
Jim

Code: Select all

/etc/rc.d/rc.country in the firstrun can be modified to do this, but i think the default locale data is better to be in the main sfs not to consume RAM or the pupsave. An easy way is to copy the locale data /usr/lib/locale/en_US manually at the woof proccess, but i don't know the deatail of the woof proccess.
Okay....thanks. I had wondered that and I had inspected the rc.country script but couldnt get idea what was wrong. About woof process. If 3builddistro does not explicitly remove anything....I just ad locale to the zzzzdpup-utilities pet. If it removes...it needs another way.

Anyway...it will be fixed. Thank you so much.

Thanks guys !!!
I have got already more feedback than I expected so far.

3.2.7 kernel seems usable. Of course in this build will be some quirks, but now I know already couple of things which will be fixed.

Hi pemasu,

Initially a new frugal installation of 5.X.3.2.7 looked good on my desktop, however today I discovered a few more serious problems.
1. It cannot connect to my wired network. Attached sys-info report has info on the hardware.
2. Upon every reboot it finds the save file, says that it was last used with 5.X.3.2.7 and offers to update it.

I cannot get it to boot on my Dell laptop as it doesn't find an executable file although all iso files appear to be proper. I did try another download. If desired, I can post a copy of the sys-info report generated by Dpup Exprimo, version 5.X.13.6 on the laptop.

Regards,
Jim
