Canon S520 printer/Puppy108r1 OK in grayscale but no colour

I'm using Live Puppy 1.0.8rl on a PC with a Canon S520 bubble jet printer (Blk + 3 colour cartridges) connected by parallel port. The printer installs via Printer Wizard using the recommended bjc-8200 driver.
printer def is /etc/pdq/drivers/ghostscript
filename is ijs-bjc-8200
I have kept all the suggested driver default settings & the interface setup uses local port /dev/lp0 (no EOF sent).
With this set up I can print in Black/White or Grayscale but not RGB (colour) from Abiwriter, Mozilla and Ghostview4.7.
I wish I could get colour working - the printer just hangs at the 'sendingi try1' stage if RGB mode is selected from the Xpdq print-manager screen.
Has anyone succeeded with this printer - or does anyone have any suggestions?
