Testing the latest RC version. The 5323 fails to boot.
Can not find the main .sfs I go test the older one again
5321? and see if that one still boots.
Yes 5321 still boots using same computer same code
for booting.

I also tested using rootnoverify (hd0,1) could still not find the .sfs
But the old one boots using it now. What could that be causing
this failure?

I'll try another download of the ISO....

slacko-5.3.2.3-SCSI.iso 113M, RC status

but lupu reports that it has only 108MB or 112 ... see my picture
and not 113 MB

Sounds like the shared culprit between us is the ntfs harddisk....

Wonder which woof mick has used? Barry has been altering the boot files I think for his internationalisation project - could this have affected ntfs support??? Just clutching at straws.

Or it could be something to do with the new compression type being used in the k3 kernels - tz instead of gz? That might also explain the different size showing in lupu which doesn't have tz???? Again talking from little knowledge here lol.

Sorry I should have explained that I boot on NTFS too.
Maybe Mick don't have that and therefore did not notice
it failed to boot? So could be what you suggest. A change in woof.

Here's the really strange thing, I'm using exactly the same woof and kernel as 5321.. the only thing it could possibly be is aufs-util.. will try it and boot from ntfs, oh and I did boot 5321 from ntfs

booting from 5323 DVD

I had some slight mix up with the previous save file
but have deleted it now (I thought it had been copied over
during the first shutdown)

Only problem so far is the mounted CD drive opens on top of the first HD icon (near menu bar bottom left) I only have two hard drives.

ntfs-3g was the wrong one in the initrd.gz, my mistake. (note to self, if you document something, READ it!)

Within the half hour I will upload, but it will take awhile to get there, so maybe 2- to 3- hours.

I'll be sleeping by then but I'll make an announce when I start the upload.. the rest will rely on patience

BTW, ntfs-3g works, posting from an ntfs frugal now...

I would say that scree capture and everything else works fine with 5.3.2.3 so far

I test it tomorrow or late Sunday local time

I booted the live dvd and ran gparted, did some partition
shrinking/adding and then did a full install.
I got mesa and the nvidia driver from slickpet.
I installed an sfs and a couple of pets.

At the time of typing, the version that link leads to seems to be 5.3.2.3 - upgrade from 5.3.2.1 seems to have gone smoothly for me so far.

Thanks, downloading now. Not sure why there's a 5.3.2.40 ISO as well, went for the one with 5.3.2.4 in.

Yes I saw that 40 too so I took him both but only tested the .4
and it works well. Could the 40 be the PAE thing. For very modern computers with 4GB RAM and such?

what's the trick with 5.3.2.3 and flash? Just falls back to gecko media player? Gnash? Other?
I ask because on the XO-1 is almost in par with the original flash (eg non-watchable..) but on the XO-1.5 is visibly worse than flash
Back on the flash-9 time, similar(?) hacks on the XO-1 where considerably better than flash.

mavrothal: It is pure html5, I didn't do anything. Maybe try chromium browser? On fastish machines it is better on resources than flash, my lappy in particular would get very hot with a 3 minute flash video. I notice though that chromium doesn't do the fullscreen. Seamonkey (and I presume a late model firefox) does close to fullscreen if you hit f11.

Html 5 is still in it's infancy. That said, I haven't updated some of the libs since October last year, and ffmpeg, nor do I intend to for now. Bear in mind I compile Seamonkey against those libs and mesa. Did you use mesa?

As html5 matures I'm sure it will become more efficient.
