Yep.. xcompmgr, jwm issue, but the improvements in jwm outweigh that bug, I informed Joe a few weeks ago. I will direct him to your post because he reckons it was a driver issue but I get it on radeon, nvidia and intel. Definitely jwm.

I can confirm the bug where you boot from CD and save to usb, petget hangs. Exactly what you describe happens on wifey's macbook, it's not the kernel as there are no kernel messages, woof bug. We'll see if it happens with the upcoming racy using unionfs eh?

It does not occur in a normal usb install. I tried on my eee-701SD, my IBM r51 Thinkpad and my xo-1.5, all ok installing a few pets after the save was made.

I know Jasper has tried the boot CD/save to usb method.. Jasper? Can you confirm? (mav and myself have only tried macs, could be a mac quirk)

BTW, update of aufs-util is written on the TODO list

Used aufs-util3. Still hangs.
I think there are some recent changes on snapmerge/PPM. Which woof did you use for 5.3.2.1?

Hmmm, 5.3.2.1 does not have this commit. Though I do not think is the problem

Dpup Exprimo, jwm-579, 3.1.10 kernel produces those ghost shadows with xcompmgr also. Kcompmgr somehow suffers less of that ghost shadows.
I have 2Pfx Gui pet with both composite managers.

Everything seems to be running ok in 5.3.2.1
I lost the speaker icon on the first attempt after boot.On the second attempt it seems to have stayed put so far.

Hi 01micko,

THE 5.3.2.1 NEWS IS GOOD from the very quick "pfix=ram" test that is all I have time for immediately, in that the two problems I had with the last version are fixed:

(1) Internet connection was A1.

(2) The portable version of Opera by stu90 again loads (and now also unloads without a spurious error message though unimportantly Opera's red tray icon was still in a small white box).

My regards and thanks

Addendum

I have now tried to execute your request re "Jasper has tried the boot CD/save to usb method" and I hope I have understood you properly.

Using the still pristine CD referred to above I booted to my sdc1 flash drive and updated from 5.3.1 to 5.3.2.1, then I renamed the sdc1 file from "puppy_slacko_5.3.1.sfs" to "zzzpuppy_slacko_5.3.1.sfs".

Then, before installing shinobar's petget-20120108.pet I installed Iron browser then rebooted and reloaded installing another pet every time.

Then I installed "petget-20120108.pet" and similarly installed and saved more pets three times.

I used the save icon once for both trials and then used my Tower RESET button and otherwise used the normal reboot twice each.

Throughout, I got no unexpected error messages and all the pets worked well.

Since aufs and kernel 3.X with usb pet installation has been problematic from the beginning...I have used Shinobar`s petget package. Shinobar has addressed those problems. Barry K changed to use unionfs for that reason, or that was one of the reasons. Now I have petget-20120108.pet which has been updated so that it is uptodate with recent woof commits.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=494364#494364

I did live cd booting and created the savefile to usb stick with my parallel Exprimo build. Booting up again with that savefile in use, the pet installations works as they should. Nothing hanging and PPM updates.
PPM shows dependencies and PPM package download and installation works. PPM also updates the installed package information ok.

It might cause embarrassment that I provide parallel information on this thread. If my observations are disturbing, please....just tell so...and I stop.

@drblock2
Have not enough linux knowledges, I am novice puppy listener.. you've hear-me Laughing

Tried the "nouveau_unload experiment" from console command xorgwizard, and it worked!!... at last the lovely menus and slacko is running for me. Windows move jerky, now I think a good nvidia driver pet is needed.

move today to test (5.3.2.1) same problem with nouveau Evil or Very Mad

I can confirm that shinobar's petget-20120108.pet (after "manual" installation) solves the problem in Slacko 5.3.2.1

I do not think there is anything embarrassing in that.
Does bring up an issue though. How woof is developed and how pupplet developers can upstream their fixes/patches...

Mavrothal. If you check woof2 timeline, you can see that there are references by whom the Barry`s fixes have been updated. There are numerous ppl who have been mentioned there. Mavrothal has been mentioned there also Very Happy

I believe you have to anonymous login before you see the references or then not. I always login before I start to check the commits.

About aufs. I think that since Barry has chosen unionfs for 3.X...we are the outlaws now Very Happy
I tried unionfs with 3.1.0 kernel and I didnt like the outcome. I choosed aufs instead.

Does that broadcom_firmware-5.10.143.3.pet cover other usual b43 chips also. There seems to be 54 firmwares included.

PostPosted: Sun 29 Jan 2012, 12:56    Post subject: libavformat.so.52 and libavcodec.so.52

Trying to find libavformat.so.52 and libavcodec.so.52 for Aqualung, no luck with PPM, google, slackpack, slackbuilds, pkgs.org or slacky.eu. Tried symlinking the .53 versions but got
Code:
# aqualung
aqualung: /usr/lib/libavformat.so.52: version `LIBAVFORMAT_52' not found (required by aqualung)
aqualung: /usr/lib/libavcodec.so.52: version `LIBAVCODEC_52' not found (required by aqualung)
Any help?

Thanks

Certainly works OK for my V13 firmware - its the same older version that's been in puppy for many a long time:

Code:
b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 410.2160 (2007-05-26 15:32:10)

To test I booted pfix=ram, renamed firmware/b43 to old-b43, loaded the pet, rebooted creating a savefile.

Cheers

Yes. They are all generated from the Linux wireless (scroll down a bit) firmwares with the appropriate b43-fwcutter.
Also have 4.174.64.19 though is too old I believe
