How to install gcc? |
|
I want to compile C programs.
I see instructions to save to /mnt/home (the same place as the "pupsave.2fs" file, that is, your saved session).
I found a file called mnt but I don't see home inside. I know where home is (I guess). but that's not where I save it too? I tried to go up a level but nogo.
And then I'll need to install it but I'm nowhere near that stage.
I can't even figure out where to download it to.
I have been compiling C programs for a little while on Ubuntu but it already had gcc.
So how do I find the pupsave.sfs file?
I have done searchs within the computer and online (pupsave location) and have come up with nothing.
Apparently I need a step by step starting with the MENU button. I can't figure it out any other way.
Thanks.

hi mocatz187
first off, what puppy version are you using?
second: is this a full install, or frugal install (with savefile)
cheers

mnt/home/ only exists once you've created a savefile.... it is the place on the hd or usb where you install puppy and create the savefile...... there will be a circle on one of the drive icons on the desktop
if you want to install the devx live without having a savefile, install this pet http://shino.pos.to/linux/puppy/sfs_load-1.3.pet
then right click on the devx.sfs and choose 'sfs load' to load it
you will then have a compiler

are you refering to sfs load on the fly? what do I type in the dialogue box? I don't see anything in there waiting for me to load. am I in the wrong place?
I see some compilers in tmp folder but when I click sfs load in that location a menu appears. I clicked extract but it doesn't work. What should I do when that menu appears.
maybe I need a nap or something and I will look again afterwards.

hi mocatz187
yes sfs load on the fly is what i'm referring to (that's the same as the .pet i posted)
but instead of starting it from the menu, you can just 'right click' on the devx.sfs, and from the menu that pops up choose 'sfs load' to load it

when I click on it in the TMP folder It says it's installed but I need to click "it" in the menu to run but I don't see where to click beyond the menu icon.
it's not working, BASH: gcc command not found
Do i need to move the compiler to a different location or do more with it?
