Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 with Atheros 2413 wifi bug fix

#1 Post by RoyBell »

I was having lots of problems trying to get the Wifi to work and had to use a LAN PC Card from Edimax.
Now I've got the integral Wifi working after following the instructions below and re-booting.

I got this form the ArchLinux.org website.
It worked for me using Puppy 5.3 with a Toshiba Satellite Pro L20.
I didn't do the "rmmod ath5k"
The post is from "Mustard"

I just hit this bug today myself with a Toshiba Satellite laptop and Atheros 2413 chip. It would ping fine, but would not load a web page.

rmmod ath5k

modprobe ath5k nohwcrypt

Then restarting the network worked for me.

To automate this at boot time you can add this line to a file in /etc/modprobe.d/

options ath5k nohwcrypt

The file you add it to can be your /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf file if you like. That is the choice I made.

When I went back to using Puppy 5.3 with the Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 the WIFI didn't work. So I was a bit premature with my second hand recommendations. It connects OK but just dosen't work. From what I've read it seems that the transfer rate is so slow as to be unsable and appears to be not working at all.
According to the link I posted before, I need to load the ath5k with "nohwcrypt".

What I need to know is where to put the "options ath5k nohwcrypt" command to make sure that it loads on startup.

Also how do I stop any other option loading first?

It seems I am most of the way there but just need this final step.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
