I have tested to boot frugally on a Acer D250 now
and changed to English but with Swedish keyboard
to get åäö but the icons still are in German.
I guess you have described how to change them?
One can edit each I guess manually?

Seems it demands much on the single cpu I have.

Something going in background that needed much cpu power?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

I inserted nothing that goes into background and uses much cpu power. Maybe it is the "pwidgets"?

I have edited the "custompin" in "/root/.desksetup". Please copy and paste the following code into "/root/.desksetup/custompin" (or edit it manually) and you should get the english icon..

Code: Select all

<pinboard>
  <backdrop style="Stretched">/usr/share/backgrounds/default.jpg</backdrop>
  <icon x="32" y="32" label="Rox" locked="true">/usr/local/bin/rox</icon>
  <icon x="96" y="36" label="Help" locked="true">/usr/sbin/puppyhelp</icon>
  <icon x="160" y="36" label="Mount" locked="true">/usr/sbin/pmount</icon>
  <icon x="224" y="32" label="Install" locked="true">/usr/sbin/dotpup</icon>
  <icon x="288" y="32" label="Control" locked="true">/usr/sbin/wizardwizard</icon>
  <icon x="352" y="32" label="Edit" locked="true">/usr/local/bin/defaulttexteditor</icon>
  <icon x="422" y="38" label="Console" locked="true">/usr/local/bin/defaultterminal</icon>
  <icon x="494" y="38" label="ZIP" locked="true">/usr/local/apps/PupZip</icon>
  <icon x="32" y="128" label="AbiWord" locked="true">/usr/local/bin/defaultwordprocessor</icon>
  <icon x="96" y="128" label="Gnumeric" locked="true">/usr/local/bin/defaultspreadsheet</icon>
  <icon x="160" y="128" label="mtPaint" locked="true">/usr/local/bin/defaultpaint</icon>
  <icon x="224" y="128" label="InkLite" locked="true">/usr/local/bin/defaultdraw</icon>
  <icon x="32" y="222" label="Connect" locked="true">/usr/local/apps/Connect</icon>
  <icon x="98" y="222" label="WWW" locked="true">/usr/local/bin/defaultbrowser</icon>
  <icon x="158" y="222" label="eMail" locked="true">/usr/local/bin/defaultemail</icon>
  <icon x="32" y="320" label="Plan" locked="true">/usr/local/bin/defaultcalendar</icon>
  <icon x="96" y="320" label="Player" locked="true">/usr/local/bin/defaultmediaplayer</icon>
  <icon x="30" y="402" label="Trash" locked="true">/usr/local/apps/Trash</icon>
  <icon x="92" y="402" label="QuickInstall" locked="true">/usr/sbin/quickpet</icon>
  <icon x="32" y="482" label="Save" locked="true">/usr/sbin/save2flash</icon>
</pinboard>
You can also use "Desksetup Templates for Desk Icons" in the desktop menu. Choose (f.e.) Traditional and then click OK or APPLY. After X is restarted the icons should be shown in english. You can run "Desksetup Templates for Desk Icons" again and then clicking on the disk icon. After that "custompin" in "/root/.desksetup" should be replaced by your own settings.

Thank you very much, but don't forget: this all has only been possible by the excellent work (and programming) of 01micko, playdayz and some further lucid puppy developers and contributers (not to forget: BarryK).

At first read i did not really understand but while i am typing i come through it. You surely mean the german desktop icons (like nooby).

I have just overseen that.

Thank you all very much for your kind words and downloading LazY Puppy 5.2.8-4.

Hi RSH,
congratulations! - I am currently downloading the iso - just one thing which I missed - how to I download all those extra sfs packages? I somehow don't get any download links ...

You put really lots of works and efforts in it, thank you.
If you need a place for hosting, maybe send a private mail to MU (Mark Ulrich). He still maintains puppyisos.org.

cheers,
emil

Yes.

There is a lot in Lazy.

As I understand it the SFS can be used in the latest standard Lucid?
People do appreciate your efforts.
Larry has continued to develop and refine Lucid. It is always good to see a different and new effort.
I am always proud that Puppy is developed for languages other than English. I am always glad that people offer and share their efforts and acknowledge the tremendous efforts of the whole flock of penguins and Puppy kennel.
Are you coding and compiling some of your code in Pascal? That is new.
Do tell us about your experiences in putting this together. Few people realize the work involved until told . . .
Anyway well done. :)

I compiled mtpaint 3.40 and it works nicely.
It works under Lucid Puppy

Dimitry's debian version works as well in Lucid Puppy.

Hi RSH.

Thanks, you did a great job!
And I'm sure these additional .sfs files will be extremely useful for many (certainly for me), even if some of them won't be using LazY itself.

Besides, thanks to LazY Puppy I found a solution to my old problem with FBPanel's clock AT LONG LAST!!! :D

Greetings!

Hello to all of you and thank you very much!

I am really very much surprised of your kind words and especially the downloads (by now: 117 iso and 26 exe downloaded) :o

Thank you again for that.
Lobster wrote:As I understand it the SFS can be used in the latest standard Lucid?
Yes, but as you can see in the images posted to the sfs files: you will not get any menu entry in lucid. I don't want to get disordered my basic menu structure and so i have chosen to put everything that is in a sfs into its own sfs menu. This has to do with several reasons like my age (fourty-eight), my bad eys (need glasses to work on my computer/puppy but not while drumming), my uusing of several computers and OS's and not everytime to know, "where is what?".

I think this is a good solution.
SFR wrote:And I'm sure these additional .sfs files will be extremely useful for many (certainly for me), even if some of them won't be using LazY itself.
I found out that some of the sfs or similar included programs do not work with every other puppy. Just to prevent users from downloading of files that won't work for them i have chosen to post no links to the sfs files.

That's why i have created the QuickInstall, to make sure, you can download the sfs only from inside LazY Puppy 528-4.

-----

Unfortunately i have to go offline for a few days, because of my expensive internet provider. Normally i am a "fulltime-offliner" because i don't like the internet very much. I fact of using several computers in several locations i use a mobile gprs modem to get onto the internet. It has been a good solution to me until now. I did just use it to update some software from time to time.

Since i have joined the forum i have been more often online than the last three years ago. That's why i have to change the contract and/or the provider.

But i will be back for sure, because: i am caught in puppy!

Thank you all again.

Hi RSH

JFYI - the very high CPU activity on startup and at other times - is largely caused by Pwidgets.
when Pwidgets is removed or disabled - CPU is mostly ok.

However - have seen similar excess CPU activity caused by flash.

Have only ran Lazy528 on my old Acer Laptop so far - must try on EeePC and newer laptop.

Many thanks for all you have done with Lazy - fantastic puppy - much appreciated.

Very bets regards - Ray

Ray I tested to edit which widget to keep?
I have widgets now on Snow Puppy 5 that Pemasu made
and they don't take so much cpu.

Maybe it is a subjective thing. I am not good at knowing how to
measure such things. I am happy it all works now.

Now I only have to learn the SFS thing.

Hello,

i am online outside my home. I will use that way to get here for a few days.

Unfortunately (nobody is perfect) i have to inform you about a small bug in the LazY Puppy preferences GUI. The changes made are not being saved, if you are using english keyboard layout. I attached a pet to fix it. Please download this pet if you are using endlish keyboard layout.

It is not needed if you are using german keyboard layout.
nooby wrote:Now I only have to learn the SFS thing.
Just copy the downloaded sfs files into the directory of lazy_528.sfs (f.e. /mnt/sdb1/LazY/)

After that got to "Menu>SFS Applications>LazY SFS Direkt Load" and run the wanted sfs by menu entry or run the "LazY528 Application sfs-load".
Ray MK wrote:JFYI - the very high CPU activity on startup and at other times - is largely caused by Pwidgets.

Another reason could be the NewFBPanel with plugs by stu90.

As you can see there are several plugs active in the fbpanel. You can disable them in the desktop menu (fbpanel preferences or configuration)

Thank you very much.

QuickInstall > Menu LazY Puppy > LazY Puppy 5.2.8-4 Lazarus & Free Pascal

Download all files inside the directory into the same location and click the .sh file to build the sfs.
