 Announcements

2012-04-28 - 20:30 GMT+1

I plan to upload all files of the new LazY Puppy 2.0.1 within the next week.

I do also plan to remove the files of LazY Puppy 1 (5.2.8-4) because i will not longer use and maintain this version.

After release of LazY Puppy 2.0.1 i do plan a break of active develpoment for several weeks (except needed bug fixing). I do feel the need to get back from where i started the LazY Puppy - as a puppy user, now LazY Puppy User. That's why i did intend to make the LazY Puppy - just to use it. For Music, Graphics and sometimes Programming.

LazY Puppy 2.0.1 will be (and is already now) that much comfortable to use i couldn't imagine as i did start. So currently and actually i am really really happy, to have this OS for my own use and intentions (how ever they would look in the near future).

But i surely don't quit!

BASIC INFORMATION!

#128 Post by RSH »

LazY Puppy Info Center
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 223#591223
Quick & Easy Information to BugFixes, Updates & more

 LazY Puppy - Basic Information

1. Which Puppy it is based on?
- Lucid Puppy 5.2.8-4

2. Which kernel is used?
- 2.6.33.2

3. What special features identify this derivative, so as to attract users?
- please read the features below and in the following posts

4. Is it designed to run on any particular hardware?
- no hardware specific changes made

5. Which build system was used in its creation?
- First Lucid Puppy and after that every new remaster of LazY Puppy 5.2.8-4 has been made using the former version of LazY Puppy 5.2.8-4

6. Where is the download link?
- at the end of the first post

7. Is it maintained?
- I will not make a new release until a new release of lucid puppy is finished and stable (EDIT: except there are bugs and/or updates to make a new release necessary :) )
- I will try to give help to the users of lazy puppy (if i am able to do so) but also just as long as no new lazy puppy release is finished (and stable, based on lucid)
- I will try to take care of the downloadable files and its links

8. Any other useful info/comment?

- YES!

LazY Puppy means: Lazarus Yet in Puppy. But this one is grown to be more, still small and it's surely smart because this one is a Concept Puppy! And now, Lady's and Gentlemen, let me say thank you to all of you, especially to the developers for their great work and to all who gave me a little (or a bit more) help to get this one released.

This one is for CP.

I hope you will enjoy this!

Coming from here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 680#598680

scOttman wrote:RSH, my way does support full localisation - as long as the .desktop files contain translations already - if they don't then extra steps/scripts are required, no matter what you do!
Actually it is exact the same way in my work (the desktop files).
scOttman wrote:And actually, any puppy using Shinobars "Puppy-Desktop-NLS", or techno "jwm_tools" will already have "herunterfahren" (etc) in their menu, along with many other translations - and that is without any extra language files installed/added... Pups like this include Slacko, Akita, QuicksetWary, LupuQ and others...
So, it looks like there are a lot of big chances for a geman user to download the "wrong" puppy!

Seems they use stuff like "gettext" which works in lucid etc. But i was not able to get every information to use "gettext" f.e. to translate icewm. I have posted and earned "dumb" corrections because i did not describe what i want in an exactly programming language code. But did not get an useful answer.

I am sick of stuff like that!

F.E:: Openshot 1.3.1 (inside my lazy528-video-edit.sfs) does not work in slacko. It runs but misses all libs (not only libmp3lame, which is missed also f.e. in puppy studio 3.3). Many others of my favorite programs doesn't work in some other puppies. So i am sick of downloading puppy iso's as well!

I have examined my puppy iso directory. There are more than 20 puppy isos. Maybe two or three i did not tested - but those who has been tested did not have a full featured german menu.

In the lucid i have found one puppy that is able to run and let work all of my favorite and wanted programs - so i decide to use lucid to setup my "dream-puppy" (and i love it :D )
BTW, I created a script for automatically translating .desktop files, too - see here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 449#555449 (it might not work now, google were planning to change/remove their API)
This is a nice script - but as you wrote: (it does) "not work now".

So, what to do?

QUIT THE WORK?

After 80% to 85% is done and working very well?

NO. I will make out of this one a special feature of LazY Puppy! :D

I hope you will enjoy this!

Who are these guys so I can keep as far away as possible
from them? If they treat you bad then the risk is they
do treat many others bad too so I want to know who they
are. Send me a PM please!
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Nooby et al,

Here is the copy of my PM to RSH yesterday evening:
-----------------------------------------------
From: Jasper
To: RSH

Subject: How to install .pet and combine .sfs files
Hi RSH,

I write because I do Not understand what sfs files have got to do with your thread which seems to be about pets.

I don't need a personal reply - I merely wondered if you may want to amend your thread's title.

My regards
-----------------------------------------------

I regard my response to his reply as innocuous, inoffensive and not unhelpful and RSH is welcome to publish that as well.

Doubtless, many have enjoyed his puplet. I apologise to those who will miss his work, but I had no idea my PMs could have had that effect.

Ho-hum...

I've wiped my Lazy528 CD-RW, and deleted its pupsave file.

Just as well I have lots of other Puppies to use... :D 8)

And their creators don't all do the same as RSH.

Dear RSH

I'm finding you one of the most positive, dedicated, creative and helpful members on this forum.
Is it worth to quit sharing such interesting project..?
Please consider that there are many members who appreciate your work and ideas.
It's just a suggestion, please don't feel pressured, I'll respect your every choice...but hopefully you'll change your mind. :)

Take care & Greetings!

Although i never used your puplet i am sorry to hear you feel this way RSH as it is clear from reading your posts that you put a lot of work into and take a lot of pride in LazY Puppy.
Deving is quite often a thankless task but that doesn't mean there are not people out there happily enjoying what you have created - by removing all downloads you are cutting these folks off. :(
I can only speak from personal experience but i find this forum to be one of the most friendly and helpful about - perhaps take a few days break to think about your options before chucking the towel in.

While i respect the right of a developer to withdraw their creation, i nevertheless respect even more the right of everyone to have access to open source software. Therefore, i would be willing to put up a link to mirror LazY Puppy. Not out of spite in any way towards RSH, but rather to accomodate those who really appreciate the puplet and newcomers who might want to use it. Please do reply back, and if it appears that the interest is there, i will make LazY pup available for download at an alternative location.
