EDIT: was not fixed.

serious bug

v0.8 and older has serious bug. Update or uninstall the getflash is requested to all the users and distributors.
# v0.9 - 25 Mar 2012 shinobar: fix was the ownership under /usr messing up
getflash-0.9.pet
http://shino.pos.to/linux/puppy/

Detail:
The ownership under /usr is changed to '501.guest' when you installed the flashplayer using the getflash v0.8 and older.
Check the ownership by typing 'ls -l /usr' on a virtual terminal(all 'root root' is normal).
To repair the ownership, issue a command:
(for frugal install)
# chown root.root -R /initrd/pup_rw/usr
For frugal install on usb/ata flash, also need:
# chown root.root -R /initrd/pup_ro1/usr
Reboot after the above command.

I have spent hours today on this and it totally fails.
Not sure what to describe.
I follow the instructions and nothing happens later
when I go to sites with flash like BBC SvT Youtube.

I've done this now in both firefox and Opera and FF
totally locks up but Opera just show black window for
the video clip

What can I test?

shinobar, I think get-flash 0.9 is installing the flashplayer config program and making a menu entry (as it should). When uninstalling though, libflashplayer.so is uninstalled, but the config program is not uninstalled also. (I am pretty sure but I will retest if you say so.)

could it be the config flash progr that lock up my computer?

I fail to remove it. PPM show it is still there despite claiming that it is removed.

Does not occur for me(tested on lupu-528-004 RAM mode + getflash-0.9.pet). It may be confusing if some (main or extra) sfs has the same files.
The config program entries are listed in the file /root/.packages/flashplayer-11.files, and it will be uninstalled if the PPM is fine. Let me know what version of Puppy.

Are you using getflash-0.9? If not, install getflash-0.9.pet and re-install the flashplayer using the getflash. Then you can uninstall the flashplayer by the PPM.

Yes sorry I should go for the 0.9 version. I am so lazy.
I promise now to switch over to the more reliable one.
Sorry!

Yes shinobar. It worked correctly and uninstalled the config program. I should have tested on a fresh install. Thank you.

Did they change the URL to get Flash updates? I read elsewhere that they had, but I'm not sure.

GetFlash (1.0) tells me that it's unable to contact the server, at any rate.

Hi shinobar

I struggled to get this (1.1) to work for libgcflashplayer.so that's part of puppeee's chrome (it found the site but it threw up lots of errors whilst it was downloading)

Can you confirm that this won't replace the gc version of the flashplayer which in puppeee case sits in

/opt/google/chrome/

Thanks
Arfon
