Subject description: Brainwave will be @ puppylinux-online.net,after 11/16/11

UPDATE:

All has been saved, but The high Google ranking, will be lost( Brainwave is currently the #1 Community ran Repository, according to The American Google)

But I am currently still looking for an able and competent administrator to keep the mirror in an optimal healthy and robust state as some packages have been extremely neglected and become broken in the current mirror(brainwave) due to my lack of time

It has been reported that this is( the package breaks) is mainly isolated to the /wolf directory,

The Good news is that Brainwave will soon be available in 3 distinct places, before or after the 16th which is when the old account and domain on the shared hosting site, "Host Monster" will expire, after exactly two years of use and not so reliable service to the community, due to their(host monster's) policy that involves "Throttling" and having it simply being far too popular for it's own good, causing some people to have "Dropped" and \or broken downloads...

Brainwave will be able for you to access and download various pet ,pup packages that cover a wide range of different computing needs, as well disc images(*.Iso) of 3 puppy linux variants the main "offical" lupu from micko, and the offical puppy coding crew, big mike's bruno and Dejean's KDE3.0 pupplet at these specific locations:

http://www.puppylinuxstuff.meownplanet.net/

ftp://ftp.silverdollarsolutions.com/PuppyLinux/Brainwave

and last but not least, brainwave's new "offical" home

http://www.puppylinux-online.net

I will be closely working with my provider ,silverpuppy and who ever else that would be interested in helping set-up a few Bit Torrent Trackers for the bigger files

But please note that most of these sites are not even finished, having the file transfers , still unfinished on my end and no, pages or databases setup for them yet

But I would love\like to replicate Smokey01's setup(http://www.smokey01.com/ -- a fellow puppy repository that always has been smoking fast for me)

For Brainwaves new home, since I will now have complete ,utter control over how it functions now, compared to it just being in a shared hosting environment, like host monster

Anyways, That pretty much concludes all I have to say....

Again, I want to mention, rather briefly again, That for the new brainwave to be just as successful or perhaps even more, than it has, and possibly add\update new packages on a regular basis
We will need possibly an administrator and also some "Quality control" staff to make sure newly submitted/grabbed packages work, without issues, before putting them on the mirror for public consumption

These Two groups of people will work hand in hand in a kind of synergy, to make sure that the new site is available for everyone to use, with minimal down time and of course the major goal here is the provide much more reliable and faster downloads than what hostmonster could provide, on brainwavedesigncentral.net, the current and passing file mirror

If any of you have Linux Administration skills, (specifically for Debian 6.0)

Or would like to be a part of the "Quality Control" Team

Please reply to this post or send me a PM, if you prefer that

PostPosted: Sat 10 Dec 2011, 18:26    Post subject: BitTorrent Hosting

Does anyone know of an easy way to batch create .torrent files for every file in a directory? I have seen a way to do it here http://www.alecjacobson.com/weblog/?p=900 but is there any other known way? A way that works in Winduhs would be great, as I am ashamed to admit that I currently don't have a machine running Linux full-time.

Any ideas? The only other way that would be feasible would be to create batch torrents containing all the files in folders and have the (hopefully) few people who aren't using their BitTorrent client as a way to better the Puppy Linux community by seeding Puppy packages simply pick the files they want out of the batches. Most BitTorrent clients allow this. The major downside to this is that you can't easily update those batch torrents without losing seeds who aren't aware of the change, which can also lead to significant duplication.

Please give some feedback or ideas.

Most files have been uploaded to http://www.puppylinux-online.net/ (micko01, lupus stuff only) and
http://www.puppylinuxstuff.meownplanet.net/ (Big mike's folder, only)

Those were the two most downloaded folders

Please post here, if you folks want me to upload the older stuff(wolf_pup's stuff and igulder's first works)

Enjoy!

I for one often use older stuff when I'm creating a machine for an elderly person to do their email on out of an old Pentium II and an older Puppy Linux distro. I think it would be a total travesty to lose the older stuff, especially for historic value. It's always good to be able to look back at the old code if you don't like a turn that was taken along the way so you can make it the way you woulda done it.

My 2 cents.......

as for others,

Brainwavedesigncentral's account on hostmonster expired today, guessing it will be deleted from their servers soon

@ Saturn: they don't waste any time deleting sites it seems, coz it's gone now..

..and i'm with SilverPuppy regarding the older files....yep, keep 'em!
For posterity and/or use....i'm happy to host what i can accommodate on the server.

Maybe a good samaritan-puppian, who has the time and the skills, would have a look at wolfpup's broken packages from brainwave's site, see if they could be fixed...calling for help here, please..?

When he posted the url for your site, I was under the impression that there would be a link on the front page to Mike's stuff.

Glad I asked the question...otherwise people may not have found it.

@tlchost, I think that's what we both originally intended, just that russ has been busy with RL much like me and has not added the link on the front page yet.

sorry any inconveniences I have caused

EDIT:
micko01's mirror at brain wave is not done either, even though I have it uploaded and a pretty package manager has been coded for it, its not quite done yet as I have yet to find some one to fill the administrative position

My personal search on this matter (looking in chat rooms and other forums) , has been lack luster with many admins that looked promising, proved to be rather incompetent, one even broke ssh, due to such

It's tough trying to find good help....apparently the last person that worked on http://www.puppylinux-online.net/ couldn't create much of an index page. Is there anything on that site at all?

It would appear that you are facing an uphill battle.

@tlchost
as I described previously in this thread: about puppylinux-online.net,

the files are there(micko01's stuff only) but I do not have the time to research on how to set it up, nor have I found some one to be kind of enough to do it for me

I have a perl repo script built for it made by a developer from "peadippin" their site being @ http://www.peadippin.com/index.php

When I can get it setup it should allow you to browse files In a much more neatly and organized fashion than you would have been able to , previously on brainwave and also it will allow you to upload any puppy package or disc image file that you may wish to contribute

I'll get the offical repo, puppylinux-online.net working when either I find some competent \capable or perhaps when I can have a nice, quiet few hours to learn the process of running a Debian server myself

Until then I suggest using russoodle's server as the bigmike folder is uploaded(took me five days to get it finished transferring, due to it only uploading @ 45kbps)

I have enough space to fit wolf_pup's stuff as well as igulder's first works on there as well, but then again I will have to find time for it

Have a merry, blessed Christmas full of holiday yule and cheer,
sincerely ,
Saturn

If you told us the folder name where you uploaded the files, we should be able to find it by going to puppylinux-online.net/foldername

No special skill to do that

What webserver software are you using? Apache?
