Old GRUB cannot do this. But there are instructions here for setting up a flash drive with GRUB2 that can boot an ISO.

rcrsn51 gives the best link but while you do this described there
you can also try out something that works for 2011 versions of Ubuntu and kubuntu and xubuntu and so on and for Linux Mint 11 but not for LMDE
and for Bodhi and Netrunner and SuperOS and SuperX and so on all
the ubuntu varieties but not for Debian varieties or for Arch that fails.

The member here D4P gave a link to his home page where he describe
how one boot 145 different isos setting it all up in a way that was way
too complicated for me but I made a simplification that works for iso
booting the live session of ubuntu and that allows you to save things on the same NTFS "drive" that the iso booted from.

The bad thing is that you can not update or upgrade or add and keep
any programs. So it is a true live session but it is very easy to use
for noobs so may not be ideal for your needs. It is a way to compare
looks and what is already installed and so on to get a feel for them.

I give better description if you is not satisfied with the grub2 thing.
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though
