I'm not sure under which circumstances it has a problem - maybe only on FAT filesystems or mounted drives. |
I'm not seeing that error here on ext3.

This problem still continues to exist. Manual frugal installation with latest versions on ext4 partition on Dell Inspiron Laptop will not boot. Goes to a gray screen.
Menu.lst | Code: | title Puppy Test (sda7/test)
find --set-root --ignore-floppies /test/initrd.gz
kernel /test/vmlinuz pmedia=atahd psubdir=test pfix=fsck
initrd /test/initrd.gz |
Maybe some Hardware Information about the Dell Inspiron Laptop will help generate some ideas. Saluki must be able to boot on late model laptops.
Chip description:

Intel Corporation i7 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
oem: Intel(R)Sandybridge Mobile Graphics Chipset Accelerated VGA BIOS
product: Intel(R)Sandybridge Mobile Graphics Controller Hardware Version 0.0
X Server: Xorg
Driver used: intel
X.Org version: 1.9.5
dimensions: 1600x900 pixels (423x238 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes
I also created a USB installation using my desktop computer and it gives the same problem when trying to boot on laptop.
Saluki 010 works great on my desktop which also has the intel i7 processor. I was successful installing the latest NVIDIA driver on it and everything appears to be working fine. Only problem I'm having with it is that I am unable to move a directory from /root/ to /mnt/home and then create a symlink back to /root using Thunar. Right clicking on Symlink does nothing.
Cheers,
Jim

That works for me, move dir to /mnt/home, then rightclick hold and drag it back to /root "link here" rightclick Create Systemlink don't work in /mnt/home, you can't create a systemlink there.

I'll try a new download, maybe mine is bad.
EDIT: Solved the problem with symlinks by installing ROX using PPM.

That's strange, one other way is to use the send to "Desktop (Create link)" then cut and paste it into root, if that don't work then there is something wrong.

ppm, when working right is not suppose to show another if one is already installed, even if there is an update. |
True but that mean one has to uninstall the old version before the new? |
hopefully nowadays, no, in the old days yes, that was the safest way to meet the requirement of replacing an app version.
It's something that at some stage needs to be worked on in ppm, however it will require quite a bit of coding to deal with the extra fields and their variations. Maybe it's something that ppack could take on with a specific coloured background or text to let you know the update is available!

Tried it with ext3. That didn't work either.
But while doing some reading, I found that this is the default behavior for Thunar. Thunar needs gamin or fam installed to refresh correctly after creating and deleting files without having to use Ctrl-r or F5.

I will add it to the next release and see if it helps - however the fact that you have the same issue with ROX makes me think maybe the problem is something else.
Adding more background daemons is somewhat undesirable - seems Xfce wants yet another daemon for everything.

I tried to duplicate it on lucid 5.28 with xfce4beta and Thunar. The condition doesn't happen on that build. It refreshes and shows the file as deleted without having to resort to manually refreshing via a key press.
I agree with you about adding more background daemons. Just the word alone, kind of makes me think of demon, something running around in the background creating havoc Actually, I think that's where the word originated from.

Just watched Lobster's Puppy Linux podcast Feb 2012 with 010. Worked really well! I couldn't watch YouTube with Midori using 009 (I don't have flash installed - straight html5). I was impressed with how well it ran this time, though. I actually have come to like Midori. I've never used it before I decided to go with Saluki. I used Chromium or Opera. Sometimes Midori exits if I swipe really fast on my mouse pad (laptop), or click to close a tab, which is irritating, but for the most part it seems to be working OK. I'm expecting that as time goes on it'll be more stable. I like the idea of implementing html5 for video instead of flash. I think that this is a move in the right direction.
So far, my experience using Saluki has been very enjoyable. A very stable base. Considering that it's in the development/testing stage, I'd have to say that in my opinion this thing is really solid. I've used other distros that were release versions that weren't this solid. Kudos to Jemimah and all those responsible for Saluki's vision and development.
I'm most struck by the applications being separate from the base - the adrv sfs concept. I think that the idea is brilliant, as is the modularity approach of the design. Quite exciting to see a new path, something that should have been obvious to all, but was obviously not to all, being implemented.
And by the way, it's refreshing to also be able to have some tasteful wallpaper for a puppy distro. I've never used the supplied wallpaper before, but I do now. Some of these are really beautiful (the ones found here on the Saluki forum).

Even though not ready I have been using JWM rather than XFCE.
I prefer the familiarity of having desktop icons, hard drives on the desktop and workspaces.
I also have no affinity to thunar and so use Rox.
JWM is stable enough to use (prompt and then xwin jwm) even though Jemimah is not recommending it.
We had trouble with Transmission bit torrent in Slacko and Mick went back to an earlier version. The program loads. You load a bit torrent and it crashes (is what I am experiencing)
Same happened in Luki 009.
Anyone have better luck? An alternative compile or version?
I spend most of my time in a browser. Firefox 10 has proved able and stable. That includes its flash component. Also includes using Youtube and BBC Iplayer. I moved from Seamonkey 2.7 which I had difficulties with. I would prefer to use Seamonkey.
So Lucky to Saluki

Pnethood |

Conection to my nas with pnethood was easy. But nothing happens if i press the "show" button. Is this because of a ROX link? And is it possible to ask for a wine pet ? need it for Spotify. Prettey please ?
And on a small note. I downloaded and used the VLC.sfs it worked, but it does not show up in the menus. if i search for the program it finds it.
And yes Saluki looks very good. How about including the Faenza icon theme ?

. . . for our wallpaper artists . . .
rename the enclosed file to saluki.svg
You can then edit in inkscape, xaralx or other structured drawing packages
For example to get rid of the black decal which might be holding back your creativity . . .

There should be a script called "rox" that handles this type of thing when rox is not installed. I wonder why it's not working for you. I've patched the next release to have pnethood call exo-open instead.
eCube had uploaded a wine pet into the repo for testing. Please let us know if it works ok.
I'll add what icon themes I have to the repo soon.
