I've been updating my utilities package for saluki
Lots of useful stuff. Mostly right click on file or folder.

I just wanted to report that Openshot 1.4.2 in Saluki appears to be buggy.
I tried playing a .mov file in it and Openshot closed on me. Here is the output from the terminal:

I'm too lazy to compile anything at the moment, so I am reverting back to using openshot in PupStudio.

Re: Xfce/Saluki visual menu editing

Saluki automatically updates it's menu system, but if you find the need to do manual editing, go to 'Start Button->Control Panel->XMenu Entry Maker'. Xfce has a much better automated menu system than does IceWM or JWM. In most cases you won't need to do any editing. But if you do find the need, the means are there via the 'Control Panel/XMenu Entry Maker'.

If you're looking to remove menu entries, an easier option may be to open the file manager (Thunar) and navigate to /usr/share/applications and rename the *.desktop file that you wish to remove (rename it instead of deleting it so you can reverse the process if needed at a later time).
Edit: 07/08/2012

Well I've updated it once again, this time I think I have it so that there are no bugs, I removed the xdialog editbox, the reason is that it has a problem with
UTF-8 and gives errors on locale, this will break some of the existing .desktop files if they are edited with it, so now it is linked to edit with the default text editor.

I have tidied the script so that it's more easely read, removed non essential sections and fixed errors, added checkbox to hide menu entry, my other way of hiding them was of no use, as it made the entry totally unusable, doing it the correct way allows it to still function but not be shown in the menu, so a desktop copy will work.

This should replace the original in /usr/sbin as it is buggy and will cause errors, please test, report errors.

Good work! Is their a way to make a visual list box, editable, like the kde menu editor? That way you could set the properties of each item and it's position in the menu.

That would be the best! :)

I've been on the lookout for a fully featured menu editor, but there is nothing that appears to work at the moment, but I'm still hopeful of finding other useful options to add.

People - look at what you're doing here!

#3457 Post by marmalade »

This thread is getting ridiculous - 231 pages of unsearchable stuff no-one can read through in a sensible time.

Go to the Saluki website there's a forum in there with *threads* - much more useful. This thread should be CLOSED ASAP by the mods here.

I am NOT a developer. (So, these questions are probably missing a lot of general understanding, but, maybe not, too.)

For an editable Menu system my questions are:
  • Is the Window Manager (WM) responsible for the MEnu system?
  • And, if so, wouldn't the best advice be to use a Window Manager that best meets objective?
  • Is there some place where one could compare whether the feature being addressed is present in another WM?
  • Can other WMs be selected in a SALUKI distro build on the desktop?
This is NOT to say I agree or disagree with anything, its just what would best meet objective. (For example, if I have a 1GB+ RAM PC, should I be concerned if the Window Manager is 30MB more than another WM, since I have all the room in the world to match my requirements and needs? (After 40 years at this, I know that size does NOT equate to performance. .. path length does!)

Just trying to understand.

Will try to compile a version of LMMS with plugins since people seem to think they need to be included.

just use the search engine and set it to display the results as posts not threads, and also set it to search for all terms, saluki and whatever you need.

Anways, the only easy way to use a higher kernel on this is to have someone make an sfs?

OscarTalks,

It does make noise, not being at all musical it appears to be fine, everything I tried worked, sounds great, might see if I can compose something.

Geoffrey.

Hi OscarTalks,

Tried your pet, seems to work just fine. Quite the bit of functionality in that thing :)

qt_DEV-4.8.0 (repackaged version)

#3470 Post by elroy »

This is a repackaged version of a pet that is currently offered in the Saluki repository. However, the twist is that this repackaged version includes menu entries for Qt-Assistant, Qt-Designer, Qt-Linguist, and a few other valuable Qt utilities. The original version of the pet in the repository does not have any menu entries (when this new version is installed these menu entries can be found under the Utility section).

This pet is invaluable when designing Qt GUIs for PyQt, and can even be used to create GUIs for C++.

Added to the repository.
