Subject description: Sudden shutdown with no warning

Running lucid 528 from the cd with a save file on win partition (Is that called frugal?) on a acer aspire 5315. Runs really fast and smooth but just out of the blue it will turn off with no warning and nothing saved from the session. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the shutdown. I've looked in hardinfo at the sensor computer temp and its been running from 40c-53c so either the data is incorrect or its not the prob at all. Any ideas?

I have not tried any other puppy to see if this is an issue remains...

I am running 7 Puppies on an Aspire 5315 (all frugal) - one of which is Lucid 528 - never had a problem with THAT pup.

What is your Hardware spec - is it standard or upgraded? Question

I tried to install lucid 5.2.8. My laptop experience the same thing, lucid 5.2.8 sudden shutdown. My laptop is acer aspire 2920z install on toshiba portable hard drive (usb 3.0).

The hard drive undetected by unetbootin, I install lucid by using Linux live usb creator. Able to boot into puppy linux smoothly with sound n graphic. Tried reformat in fat 32 several times and tried download lucid 5.2.8 second time. Match the file size of the lupu 5.2.8.iso. Both files exactly matching on file size. Both lupu 5.2.8.iso gave me the same result, sudden shutdown after around 5 mins.

Please help how to solve the sudden shutdown problem? Anybody can shed some light?

To eliminate this possibility.
menu->system->Puppy Event Manager->power tab
Set this to 0 and see if that has any effect.

Running Puppy from a CD with a save file is one way to use Puppy. It is not a form of install.

Ways to install are explained here:

Bro, after scratched my brain for the possible problems. I keep on reboot my laptop until at one time i got a msg that shows my laptop overheat. During bootup it shows that I have an overheat laptop, puppy linus 5.2.8 shutting down due to overheat protection during load up process. This stuff never happens in lucid 5.10 where by I already used it for almost one year without giving me any problems at all.

Please try these STEPS TO VERIFY might work or might not.

1) go to menu>system>system status and config>hardinfo hardware information.

go to check the temperature sensor.

*** your laptop may run at higher range of temperature, I deduce once the

TZS1 @@ DEGREE CELCIUS
TZS0 @@ DEGREE CELCIUS

IF IT RUN ABOVE/ APPROACHING 98 DEGREE YOUR LAPTOP SUDDEN CUT POWER TO SHUTDOWN.

Mine the temperature reading shows around 90+ range.

What I did to counter this problem....

GO TO MENU>SYSTEM>SYSTEM AND STATUS CONFIG>CPU FREQUENCY SCALING TOOLS

***RUN THE PROGRAM DOWNCLOCKING MY LAPTOP TO 1GHZ.***

So far what I experience is quite smooth and no more rebooting....
Laptop temperature reading dropped to 60+ range.

Hope this helps...

My laptop specification:

Acer aspire 2920z
Intel pentium dual core processor T3400
2gb ram
puppy linux 5.2.8 install on toshiba usb 3.0 portable drive (frugal installation)
