Dell Latitude X1... What Puppy to use?

#1 Post by Atle »

Dear Puppy forum users..

I just got two broken Dell X1 that became one very nice one. All perfect with 2gb ram and a hard eye looking for a SSD to fit in...

Anyhow, I am a bit confused about WHAT Puppy to use?

I use Puppy Lucid 5.2.8(not 003:-)

But I am not sure what version of Puppy that will give me the most out of the existing hardware.

There are other threads that indicates the large numbers of versions currently used as Dpup, Wary, and good knows what.

Still, this is a 1,1 Mhz ULV Pentium M with a 915 -Intel Chipset.

Is that like "new" hardware or should it run something else than Lucid?

Anyone else have experience with the X1 and Puppy?

If you either have the 950 or 915 Intel Chipset, google "GMABooster".

As far as I can see Lucid runs nice on the machine, but still i just like to ask this question as I am a bit confused about the different versions available.

Best

Atle

Get 1 or more cd-rw and try different new and older Puppies.
They should all work fairly well.
Hope you have a external cd drive.
A 1.1Ghz cpu may be a bit slow for streaming video, but
downloaded video will work great.
I mostly use Wary and am playing with Ttuxxxs' 214x. (just
pesonal preferences)

Your cpu is a Pentium M with 400Mhz front side bus.
That chip will not work with a few new Puppies that have
PAE kernel support. (Racy version of Wary for example)

Those versions are primarily for computers with 4+ Gb ram.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs
