compact flash to IDE adaptor found a supply.

#1 Post by eccentric »

I Googled for the C/F to IDE adaptor, found a supply in the USA and UK
but as I am living in China the one from ShenZhen cought my eye,
www.9130.cn the site is in Chinese but you can click on a tab marked English.
they offer many types, but they have +5 input and my C/F,s are 3.3volt, has any one used the adaptor. I thought only the very old C/F,s where +5volt.
You are warned by the maker that you cannot hot swopp the C/F

Edit. Looking at makers specs. it would look like they are dual voltage.
just the "I" in Milli amps are higher at +5v

I'm using one from www.mini-itx.com

I wasn't aware of any voltage issues, the adaptor connects to the PC's 5v and 12v supplies using a standard floppy disk power connector. It works fine with new 1GB CF cards, so I can only assume that it generates its own regulated 3.3v supply.

In any event Puppy works fine using a pup001 file to reduce the amount of writes to the CF card.

www.mini-itx.com also do some flash memory modules that plug directly into an IDE cable. However the CF solution strikes me as better because you can remove the CF card (with the power down) and back it up on another computer using a CF adaptor.

CPC sometimes stock them at a fraction of the cost.

Pete,
Thanks for the reply, I have orderd an adaptor from 9130.com, I will post when I have tested. The cards were bought for the camera, but I think the one Gig. will end up in the computer. they make two types one using the floppy power lead and one using the H/D lead. but I think it is only the +5 that is used.
