It's working great on the 10.5 year old puter. I like the sakura term, xmms, mplayer, and firefox additions. Packaging system is very slick.

Great work, Joe!

A speedy pup in this 900-mhz Pentium III ! Thanks, big_bass.

The first instance of X failed to show the taskbar and right-click menu. I exited to command prompt and redid xorgwizard, and they showed up, finally.

The drive icons from your setup still appeared in my desktop (a problem that also occurs in my remasters, I wonder how to prevent this).

(BTW, hardinfo says OS = Slackware 12.2.0, but /etc/puppyversion = 4.5. )

Works really well in my old P3 (733 mhz/256 mb ram/1gb swap) test machine.

I just swapped in a bigger hdd, and cloned contents of the old drive, earlier today so when I saw this I did a quick frugal install.Looks really good so far, nice work. :)

Hey Raffy

Thanks for posting I did a last minute edit to the desktop and the modified globicon and PupyPin
got copied I manually did that so my error good thing its easy to fix I included the cleaned files in the attachment copy

over write the old files here with the new ones I attached *a tmp fix until I add it to the iso
/root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin
/root/Choices/ROX-Filer/globicons

/root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/globicons

I'll fix that in the iso

(BTW, hardinfo says OS = Slackware 12.2.0, but /etc/puppyversion = 4.5. )
:D

*there are three nice skins for Mplayer you could change some surprises to find

thanks for the report

P.S I haven't been able to rest since I started using puppy I thought about another way to build it all the time starting with stripping it down with the fat free series then patching it up with slaxer pup in a progressive way
I set out a long time ago to get puppy to be more linux standardized
back to a basic simpler way there were too many changes
to too many things it became a full time job
thus TXZ pup came to be I could have called it version 6 because it has its own build system but it is also an advanced 4 series so 4.5 fits the name well

I finally achieved that personal goal and feel at peace (a really good feeling )
there are always things to fine tune but now this is a proof of concept

using an official package format and package management system
this will allow long term slackware users around the world to quickly adjust to building packages the way they know how and helping out

and still have the "extra ability" to install pets too :D

Hey musher0
Would you have a list of the main softwares handy?

clik on slaxer_pkg_tools2.2
then select view

==========some extra info thats important==================
all those packages keep a data base in /var/log/packages

and a history is saved of all the packages you check the dependencies in
/var/lib/pkgtool/dependencies

Hello, again, Big_Bass.

Still exploring your new "slaxer_pup". Generally quite fine, but I got bogged down with the following:

Is it possible that some options of the wallpaper changer are not working properly? I couldn't get it to stretch my chosen backdrop. (I prefer forests over butterflies!) :) Or maybe I understood something wrong.

I had to disable the clicks on background through ROX (first two ticks in "compatibility" options in ROX), and use the alternate ROX menu to stretch the background. And then of course restore ROX's options as they were to access jwm from the backdrop again.

Other misadventures with this:
* the new ROX wallpaper facility at the roscidus site doesn't work ( http://roscidus.com/desktop/Wallpaper ) in TXZ;
* TXZ froze even the ctrl+alt+backspace key combo when I tried to open the TeenPup 2010 sfs to import the old wallpaper app.

Oh, well, nothing's perfect! Shucks. :)

On the positive side, I got conky 1.8 with qiv (!), as in puppy 3, and rox 2.10, to work properly.

Thanks in advance for any help or pointers

I liked the viewer part about the wallpaper setter later I'll look at the code seems easy to add a stretch button to it but its also easier to just resize the images too

1.)use mtpaint open the image you want
2.) select image
3.)scale canvas
4.) un check the Fix Aspect Ratio
5. resize according to your screen size 1024 x 768
6.save it /copy it to /usr/share/backgrounds

I had to disable the clicks on background through ROX (first two ticks in "compatibility" options in ROX), and use the alternate ROX menu to stretch the background. And then of course restore ROX's options as they were to access jwm from the backdrop again.

that depends on python and ROX-LIB I compiled python also but thats a big dependency demand for such a small app not really practical unless you need python for some other app and its already installed better to use a simple viewer
Other misadventures with this:
* the new ROX wallpaper facility at the roscidus site doesn't work ( http://roscidus.com/desktop/Wallpaper ) in TXZ;
* TXZ froze even the ctrl+alt+backspace key combo when I tried to open the TeenPup 2010 sfs to import the old wallpaper app.
the reason I went with the other wallpaper viewer was( I did try ) the packaged official wallpaper program is broken there may have been some manual tweaks to the "base" not the package and those tweaks got left out of the package I guess just a thought cant confirm that though

since its a small app better to fix the one that works

Hi, Big_Bass.

Many thanks for your reply. Looking forward to your wallpaper utility update!

Still exploring TXZ,
1) I was wondering if you had a more recent version of Abiword up your sleeve :) or where I can find the plugins for the Abiword 2.6.6 that's there. I really need the docx plugin to import recent Word docs.

2) Is there a devx package for TXZ, if I want to compile someting?

Again, great job!

Altho looking attractive, doesn't work on my laptop.
I have the well known issue of the keyboard problem where f.e. the u i and o aren't accessible but give 4 5 6 etc..
In fact instead of the normal keys, I have the numeric keys like accessed in windows by the fn key.

Isn't that just because 'numlock' is on by default? Try disabling the numberlock_on script in the Startup folder.

When I had that issue, I think it was in some version of dpup.
If I remember well, it wasn't a simple matter of a numlock script, but it was indeed related to num lock.

I renamed the numberlock script and made it non-executable.

Indeed now the keyboard is behaving as it should.

But I wonder why a slaxer version like this (12.2). hda is introduced again. oops
There are already several versions of LightHouse, the latest 490
Barry just announced a slaxerpup. (slackware 13.2)

Maybe I miss some point, but the Puppy Package Manage only references puppy applications.

Barry himself contemplated a return to the naming of hard drives as HD* with the use of long-term-support kernel.

As to the package manager, yes, the new system needs to be explained more. There are three visible entry points to package management at the moment:

- the home page (when you open the browser), where you can access the TXZ packages;
- the slaxer package tool in /root;
- the usual Puppy package manager in the menu.

Is there an instruction somewhere about access to the bigger collection of slackware packages?

Hey Béèm

thanks for testing

you could have just commented out
/root/Startup/numberlock_on
or delete it

Maybe I miss some point, but the Puppy Package Manage only references puppy applications.
But I wonder why a slaxer version like this (12.2). hda is introduced again. oops

I went with the old standard many documents and how to's still refer to hda for drives

the pet get package manager handles pets

the slaxer_pkg_tools2.2 handles slackware packages

it handles slackware packages directly without any conversions the same way its done in the official slackware why thats important is you can build the distro using
packages the same way every other linux distro is built

greatly simplifying whats involved to remove installed base packages customize a build
the way you need it

BTW nobody has ever even tried to build using something other than pet packages before
I pulled it off :D

Note: no "pets" were injured during the making of this build

one example it took me 6 minutes to install over 350 packages
using TXZ_pup

now for a package finder I built packages that are tested to work
I also use slackwares official packages

and slackbuild scripts

to put it simply anyone that has ever used slackware before
would be at home on TXZ_pup
*plus dependency checking which slackware doesnt have

for advanced users
packages could be auto built using src2pkg then installed by just clicking on the package

there is a lot to explain but the good part is you dont need to learn anything new to install or remove slackware packages if you have done that before

I maintained 100% backend compatibility only I rewrote the whole frontend GUI in X dialog because the official slackware tools run when you are out of the x environment
not very user friendly but it is powerful

*for the moment the devx from slaxer cooking devx package not sfs is fine to use 412-devx-i486-3_SLXR.txz Ill rebuild it with the new files

I will build a new devx to add the new files
I will also update the compiler version and after things are settled in
or offer an optional compiler

future plans
rebuild with a new glibc everything a lot of stuff comes first on the list
before I do that

Hello Joe,
Thank you for the explanation.
It makes a little more sense, but still unknown things for me.
I expected a slaxer pkg tool in the menu's, but it isn't there, so I found the one you mentioned in /root.

On one of my HDD's I had a tgz package, which was found with the tool, but to install I had to copy the pkg tool to that directory where it was and only then it came in the list to be selected.

Information panels were flashing by, without having the time to read the information and all of a sudden I got the notice the package was installed.

Didn't find it in the menu and forgot to look in the list of files to see where it was installed.
Will redo the operation after increasing the save file. It's a little short now.

Also I expected some facility to make a list of packages from a slaxer repository, but failed to find that. Maybe there is another trick.

I wanted to select sfs files to be loaded at boot.
The bootmanager presents them, but the add and remove buttons are grayed out.
So I don't see the way to have, f.e., OOo
I prefer the sfs approach in order to avoid a huge save file.

So I'll continue digging.

Regards,
Bernard

EDIT

Well that package happened to be one that can't be run in slaxer.
Below is the picture of the list of packages found to install (one in my case) and the list isn't readable. When increasing the window size, the package becomes visible.

Hi Joe :D

Help!

I ran with puppy pfix=ram
it seems to have the ability to talk - even with a lobster using xcowsay
but I can not find xcowsay or flitet running from the command line :?

Also it wants to move my configuration folder before
opening geany
Is that good?

The Puppy wallpaper setter (with the return of a visual)
did not tile or scale (fit to desktop) but the visual is welcome. :)

I am in particular intrigued by
/root/slaxer_pkg_tools2.2
This means the creation of a huge potential store of slack software
can be utilised.
If libraries are missing then these too can be added straight from slackware. Is that right?

Is it similar to or compatible with 4.12 (I think it was) which had this compatibility or is it different?

I think the question was asked and it is possible the answer
needs to be explained by another slackware user.

This is not just a puplet
It does not use woof.
It is highly slackware compatible.
You have done something very unique
but what is it?

It looks good, it works well.
I know it has potential
but what is going on. :)

Let the Lobster do the explaining :D

a little how to use the new unzip tool
use the attachment script called TXZ-intro.tar.gz unzip it then RIGHT click on it
( right click on TXZ-intro.tar.gz an option for unzipper drag n drop 5 comes in the window select it say "yes " thats the new unzip tool
now click on /root/TXZ-intro/TXZ-intro

*thats to see how rox right click works built in for many compressed package formats a simple drag n drop works too

a little surprise
