XFprot version 2.4 and Fprot version 6.5.1

I cluttered up other threads with these so I've opened them here.

================

XFprot 2.4 has had various bugs ironed out by me. It's not perfect but works.

XFprot appears to be now unsupported by it's author as I've had to change some routines for fprot version checking and icon showing. It's last date was 2009.
It was a lot older than the fprot version 6.5.1 so didn't recognise it. :)

Fprot version 6.5.1 is the latest available from the fprot site but it is dated 2010. :?:

I have not included the definitions file to save space. So the first thing to do is run F2 update in XFprot or if you are using just fprot from the command line then run fpupdate.

====

Regarding F-prot usage.

I studied the F-Prot website as best I could and it would appear that the Linux version is meant for scanning only. It's not too clear exactly in simple terms.

Unless it's on a Linux server version and given file parameters I believe it cannot work like a windows anti-virus app would. The scan daemon is available as a server edition.

It will work on email clients but again that is a different version download and again parameters have to be set.

There is also a version for Samba shares networking. This is for cross platform protection. I did not read into it too heavily.

So, as far as Puppy is concerned, it's an on demand manual file/directory scanner. It can only check downloaded files after they are downloaded.

I suspect it's main use is for Windows repair in Puppy's case.

F-prot used from the cli can scan OK given the path or global options.

For those who want the options just open a terminal and run fpscan and the usage options will come up.

I ran fpscan -l for local scan and it took ten minutes to scan everything I had on disk 8)

Users please be aware there is a test file that it always finds named EICAR.com

Rob,

I'll put these in the slacko repo.. avast is already in the common repo so users have a choice.

The old XF-prot menu entry is useless so that is going.

Cheers

New pet uploaded for Xfprot as original incorrectly split up to two main directories. The path was incorrect so an error message occurred when Xfprot couldn't find a text file.

Probably didn't hurt the operation of Xfprot.

I d/l above pets and tried to run update from gui. When pressed F2 to update - nothing happened.
Tried clicking on F2 button, again nothing happened.

Then I went to command line and entered following

/root
# cd /opt/f-prot
/opt/f-prot
# /opt/f-prot/fpupdate
Downloading update

Downloaded update ok using command line entry
