Last week I was bored and decided to "experiment" and read up on all the possible "advanced" settings of VLC
The results were a much more crisp and sharper image than usual and much better bass response ... even on cheap five dollar headphones
Let me know If these settings help or "bomb" or maybe do nothing? To your media viewing pleasure in the poll below!
Ok I will go by this step by step from the top of the menu in "Preferences" all the way to the very bottom
First, click on "Tools-> Preferences" Then click the"All" radio button under show settings
Now, the first thing you will "Tweak" is how the video is decoded from ram...
Chose MMX EXT mem cpy from the menu like this:
http://imagebin.org/173718
Then click on the input\codecs tab -->demuxers then H264
change the default target for the frames per second to be displayed on screen (FPS)
To 31 FPS
like this:

Next,
Perhaps the most important part, Enable hardware acceleration for your GPU
by clicking on the video codecs list from the tree I have mentioned above input\codecs
Much like this example:
http://imagebin.org/173721
Also in that same box, scroll down until you get the "Mpeg-4 Quantization matrix" Field
input the number "10" into the "minimal video quantization" tab making sure the field is checked above
Again in the same box, not related to video @ all but if you prefer it so, and would like some thumping tunes replace the "Audio profile setting" from low to high
Now finally scroll down all the way to the last section which is named "video"
click on the "Filters" Tab, the clicking on sharpen in the "Video Filter Module" section
Then click on it's corresponding Triangle to bring a drop list of filters to customize .. click on "sharpen" alter it's value by 0.2% or enter 0.7%
That's IT!!
We are done with this!
I would very much like to hear everyone's feed back on these specific Tweaks , for those who are interested in getting the most out of VLC and their gpu, but also want to learn if this is standardized , I.e. will have the same effect on everyone's system, hereby replicating my experience or is will it be different for each individual I.e. "Beauty is in the beholder" or perhaps, even across several GPU Families from both ATI & Nvidia behave differently from generation to generation or brand to brand I.e. asus vs Evga or AMD Vs. Nvidia
Please let me know if this post was helpful or Interesting at all for you...
Thanks!
Saturn
