Is Jemimah's original Puppeee still available?
Haha, if you give an over-achieving INTJ an impossible task that can never be finished, something's gotta give at some point or the universe implodes.ttuuxxx wrote:wow jemimah with all the effort and advances you made for puppeee its a real shame you just tossed the towel in like that, I really respected the effort and work you put into it, I don't own a eeepc but I did read about it on your threads. Well I just hope you might find another project soon to work on. Looking forward to your next efforts.

My current obsession is shopping, since I lost 30 pounds (courtesy of my post-puppeee obsession, weightloss) and nothing fits anymore I have to replace my entire wardrobe. However I am starting to get a little bored with that. I've been considering how I can contribute to Puppy in a less time consuming way that won't compromise my health/career/sanity/marriage.
I may end up just contributing to woof development if Barry will take my patches. I'd also be open to working on collaborative projects if there are any talented devs with good communication skills and a compatible vision.
I'm not good at being only moderately obsessed with something which is why I probably shouldn't work large projects by myself. I simply can't be the main person responsible to maintain a whole os, a whole website, and a whole package repo. It's insane.

Dept of In sanity here . . .It's insane.
The methods may be crazy but the results are brilliant . . .
Congratulations on the weight loss
Exercise? Diet? Drugs? Padlock on the cooky jar?
How do we come together and ensure no developer burnout
and the revival of Saluki which inspired so many . . . ?

For Lucid
and Slacko
and for PARM (Puppy's must ambitious project)

we have BarryK working for the team
as well as on Wary, Racy and Quirky
Iguleder too is working both at the forefront
and with scripts that will compile for the Puppy store of bones
Pemasu manages to add, polish with many tips gained from Jemimah
Technosaurus has his own blog that is inspiring with tips

Ttuuxxx has shown tremendous support and updating of the 2 series Puppy and I have not even mentioned Fatdog and the puplets . . .
One method is the relay stick.
Basically one month, one developer.
As many ISO test releases (hopefully at least one)
as preferred and then on to the next obsessive . . .
How do we make that work?
Anyone like to trial a month for Puppy 6?
Woof Woof
Puppeee is a wonderful distribution and I thank Jemimah for putting forth the time and effort. It was the best distro for my Eee pc 900 at the time and everything worked so well.
The later Lucid Puppy, and now Slacko Puppy also works fine for my netbook. Every one who has an Eee pc should give it a try. I think the need for a separate Puppy derivative for the Eee pc is now no longer necessary, with such fine main editions.

kenh and jakfish please share how it is installed.
I want to install puppeee 4.4 on my Asus EeePC 900
that have a 16GB SSD or what ever them are named.
PS Lobster asked "How do we come together and ensure no developer burnout"
When I told people that wanted to be active in the Puppy User Group
that it is very likely or too easy to create developer burnout them
thought me was crazy. I trust it is more common than one want to admit.

Jake, so the internal 16GB SD is slower than an outer USB?
I am not sure what you refer to when you say you have an external SD
Did you have it in a case with a USB then or in the slot in the side?
I still have not found a single example on how to do the menu.lst
for a puppy that is frugally installed on the 16GB internal hdd
what is the name for it? sda1 or sdb2 or sda1 or sda2 or what?
Is it named pmedia=sdflash or what

I said "external" because there is an internal ssd drive, and I didn't want to confuse the two--although, it appears I did
For convenience, I use an 4GB sd card in the slot, and boot from there (as you know, in the eee BIOS, you can choose the boot order of devices).
But the 16GB ssd got very bad reviews based on its speed, and other than storage, or perhaps to hold a second OS, it's probably slower than a class 6 sd card.
But I do not know this for certain, since I don't own this model. But I'm *fairly* certain, given the reading I did on it on the eee forum.

Yes it is me dense.
The external SD is the one internal in the slot but
sure that is external only that is almost invisible to
anybody not knowing it is there
I don't trust that I have any version 6 it is the cheapest
possible and not even I bought it either. Found it in scrapbox.

Put a flavor of jemimah's puppeee on your sd card, choose xvesa rather than xorg, and your set-up will hum along nicely.
I use an alpha kernel of hers (missing many drivers, but she set it up for a modified 4.31 OS) and ttuuxx's 432.sfs, and I'm very happy.
If you do choose xvesa to shorten boot time, you may have to re-run xorg wizard and choose xorg if you wish to watch video. xvesa has trouble with mplayer, at least.

I don't know I used a manual install on the same place that Xandros boot from instead.
I try to explain
I have reused their own boot and it took me this whole day to set up
due to me know so little and had to improvise.,
But now I write from within snow puppy 5 on my Asus eeepc 900
and booting frugally from same sd hd that them use for User
the otehr one only had some 500MB free while User have 12GB out of 16 GB.
So now I can add any puppy and also maybe Linux Mint using frugal but I don't trust that LM 12 can refrain from writing often?
Booting puppy frugally I hope it does not write so often but I have to check up on this somewhere?
I get back with code
One find the menu.lst on sda1 if one are booted in puppy while it is named 2.0 or something in boot loader for xandros don't know hy.
#
# Configured by Xandros Configuration system.
#
# hiddenmenu
# Boot automatically after 1 second.

# default boot entry

# Fallback to Configure.

So I had to change how them do time out default but I improvised because I had not knowledge. This works but looks ugly.
so root (hd0,1) while Xandros are on root (hd0,0) but them
deplacing 80 byte or something. ???

I installed Slacko Puppy 5.3 to a 4 GB SDHC card. I used a card reader connected to a desktop computer and used the install from the Puppy CD. I used the rest of the card for the save area.
I've also did a frugal install using Unetbootin to a 2 GB USB stick with good results. I have Puppeee (Jemimah's version 1.0) on the 4 GB SSD.
The only problem I have is Slacko Puppy won't shut down, it just reboots. This is a reported problem and will probably be fixed in the next version. Now, I just hold in the power button and it does a proper save to the card and shuts down.
There are a few nice things that Puppeee does that Slacko doesn't, like enable some of the function keys, put a temperature monitor in the task bar and use a dimming feature when operating on the battery. I can live without those. (There is a nice temperature bar in pwidgets, which is in the repo.)
I use SKYPE and had a bit of a time figuring out how to enable an external mic. on my Eee pc. It's really easy and if anyone wants to know how, I will post it,
Ken

Hey, you did it! Even on the internal disk. If you're not too anti-Windows, maybe put XP Home on the 16GB ssd (good eee-specific apps for the XP Home), then do the dual-boot from the 16GB, which is what I do with my ancient Sony Vaio Picturebook (4.32 and Win2K).
But congratulations, you figured it out.
Jake

Thanks to both of you.
That I succeeded is more pure luck than any know how by me.
I pushed all the buttons until it worked. I had no idea what was needed.
Odd that none have described it before. Not that I know how to
but I have parts of how one does it using a usb booted puppy
and that one change the boot order. I still don't know how to
change the bios. But now I don't need to know maybe. It just works
KenH yes Jemimah really was at it in puppeee but she has so different
choices on double click and a lot of other things so I will try to use
snow puppy or lupu instead. Until I need something only she knew
how to set up. Camera? and sleep and Fn+F1 things yes that one maybe the
otehrs did not care about. [/b]
Ken H when you say this
When I use it now in Snow Puppy it did look like it was writing all the time.
The led for the SD blinked and blinked in random to show it was writing or looking for thing while me did nothing.

I was new to puppy at the time so I just followed her instructions to copy files to a USB stick and then install to my SSD. Sorry, I don't have those instructions any more. She never made an iso image to write to a CD as I recall. How does one set it up? You made use of the installer in puppeee maybe?
