Wary 5141 in Eee netbook: wifi doesn't work |
|
I have used puppeee on my eee netbook for a while, but I am using Wary (currently 5.1.4.1) on my desktop for development (Bacon).
I thought I would standardize on Wary (since puppeee is abandoned) and tried Wary 5.1.4.1 on the eee PC.
Surprized to see that many things work !! Touchpad, backlight (even via function keys), sound.
Minor issues like volume control on function keys don't bother me.
But the major issue is that wireless is not working. Despite the fact that Pfind shows there appear to be drivers for the wireless (RT3090) in the kernel the wireless does not work.
Anyone ??? How can I get this up and running ?
I already tried to copy the RT3090.bin over from puppeee, but that dirty fix did not help.
See attached...
Regards,

Perhaps a later kernel would fix it. You could try Racy Puppy 5.1.99, which is based on Wary but has Xorg 7.6 and the 2.6.39.4 kernel. It is however an 'alpha quality' release, and it would be good to read the forum thread to see issues and some fixes:

I probably should have reported this earlier, but SNS always fails on my eee-701SD.. Dougal's always works. (no matter the distro or kernel... rtl8187SE)

Racy 5.1.99 Subject description: Also problems with RT3090 wireless |
|
I tried Racy 5.1.99on the same eee PC.
- There is kernel support for the RT3090 (through a RT2800 driver (*))
- both SNS and Barry/Dougals network setup utilities failt to connect.
- Network setup gives some details why (see attached).
- I tried to save SNS log, but after the failure occurs with SNS, Nicoedit (and also Abiword after copy-paste) crash on a seg fault. So I have no listing to offer of what went wrong. But the test indicates it cannot find a library.

I also have an eee-701SD and have just booted Slacko-B3 and used SNS successfully to obtain wireless internet connection.
Using it now to post this.
Also tried various lupu's, luci's, D5Xx's and SNS worked ok.
Strangely, when I tried racy - it didn't work.
Not sure why this should be? HTH but I'm not sure it will.
Very best regards - Ray.
