Known Issues

*Synaptics is still a pain! I rolled back to flsynclient-0.6 but still need to run flloopfix.. help!
*pburn has an intermittent X crashing issue, I implore all users to test Pburn and report results, capture a log (built in to pburn) if you can, even run it in a terminal emulator. (Important!)
*fido (ie: running as puppy's non-root user) is, shall we say, less broken, testers and fixers wanted.

Requests (personal)

*raffy- please test the HELP proggy, see if you can connect and download your ATI-fglrx driver.. boot "puppy pfix=ram,nox", then make a save file, then boot "puppy pfix=nox", then run "HELP" in the console, should be self explanatory from there.

*jim3630, peebee (and others) - I know you are Frisbee lovers... sorry I'm not. To be frank I think it's an unfinished project and will not be going in the final. There is however an alternative that has worked for me 5/5, even when SNS has failed. Look in the "Network" menu for "pns-tool" (no, I didn't name it!). Try it. Report success or failure. Frisbee is still available in slickpet/PPM

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Enjoy if you can, report any issue.. we are at the business end of proceedings. Your time is important to me.
Cheers :D
This issue of Slacko should be fully reproducible with Woof-110917.
Just copy the attached specs file into your woof tree and go for it. report any issues.
Have fun!
Manual frugal install to gateway desktop pc.
First boot directly to desktop at correct resolution,sound and network
good.
Running report-video finds the tv tuner card instead of the graphics
card:
# report-video
VIDEO REPORT: Slacko Puppy, version 4.99.5
Chip description:
02:00.0 Multimedia video controller: Conexant Systems, Inc. CX23885 PCI Video
Driver used by Xorg:
radeon
Video mode used by Xorg:
Resolution: "1920x1080" Depth: Depth 24
...the above also recorded in /tmp/report-video
Reboot to create a save file.
Loaded devx and kernel source sfs and rebooted again increasing save file size.
Installed mesa from slacko repository in ppm:
# glxgears
2509 frames in 5.0 seconds = 501.670 FPS
2833 frames in 5.0 seconds = 566.579 FPS
2831 frames in 5.0 seconds = 566.168 FPS
Load Seamonkey,download flash,exit and restart Seamonkey and go to
youtube.com.
An hd 1080p video plays perfectly at full screen.
Report-video-glx 0.6 gives this info:
Sun 18 Sep 2011 Operating System: Slacko Puppy-4.99.5 Linux 2.6.37.6
I should probably quit while I'm ahead but will now install the
proprietary ati driver.
I installed the ati-driver-installer-11-8-x86.x86_64.run proprietary
Mick,
Because I had recently been compiling Xf-prot and f-prot i noticed you had them in Slacko.
Unfortunately they are the 'old' versions and don't work.
Especially the call d/loading f-prot, this will put stuff all over the place. Even though it's the 'new' version.
Xf-prot 2.3 will error out. I seem to recall I had a pet to fix this originally back in 511. I'll try it out.
EDIT: Yes it fixes it. I seem to recall that I modified the source to suit. I can post it if you want.
Hmmm. Something interesting I hadn't noticed. The v2.4 of Xfprot I compiled in 529 lacks icons whereas v2.3 has at least a few of them. 8) A libGTK problem?
An issue that I have is the famous 1024 x 768 always going down to 1024 x 600 when one use an external screen if teh internal one is 16:9 instead of 3:4 whatever.
Hardinfo does say that I have 1024 x 768 but it only show 1024 x 600 on external screen.
Lupu and Snow and Polar does not have this problem.
Wary and Racy have. So them has something that is identical?
What else to test. The pns thing. Well it already have connection so
me scary to to test something else in case it lose it :)
But okay I test. if I don't get back then it failed.
Edit, I even fail to find the PNS. Where is that one?
You mean one have to go to PPM and isntall it first?
Almost... :D
Apparently sed is only in /bin while configs are looking for it in /usr/bin.
A symlink fixed that so SlaXO-B3 :wink: is up and running with no issues :D
BTW updated my virtual machine from beta1 to beta3, no issues!
BTW2 pns-tool is really cool. Handled XO-1's (tricky) wireless and WEP2 network without a problem
Continued from earlier post:
I removed the tv tuner card, started from scratch with no save file,
it chose the radeon driver again.
I installed devx,kernel source sfs,mesa,ati-driver-installer-11-8-x86.x86_64.run
and after making a couple of mistakes along the way I ended up with
report-video-glx 0.6 showing:
Sun 18 Sep 2011 Operating System: Slacko Puppy-4.99.5 Linux 2.6.37.6
0.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Redwood PRO [Radeon HD 5500 Series]
oem: ATI ATOMBIOS product: REDWOOD 01.00
X Server: Xorg Driver: fglrx: vendor=FireGL - ATI Technologies Inc.
X.Org version: 1.9.5
dimensions: 1920x1080 pixels (507x285 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: ATI
server glx version string: 1.4
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon HD 5570
OpenGL version string: 4.1.11005 Compatibility Profile Context
AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 810 Processor
Core 0: 2592 1: 2592 2: 2592 3: 2592 MHz
# glxgears
40825 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8164.841 FPS
41061 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8212.061 FPS
41042 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8208.265 FPS
I don't think it made any difference to performance but it reports
correctly now and I wasn't using the tv tuner card anyways :)
pns-tool timed out
Hi 01micko & all;
Initial report--
Unpacked Beta3 ISO to Slacko folder & rebooted. No problem reaching desktop. My graphics card is ATi-Radeon, and I did not have to create boot parameter.
Changed Timezone to US/Eastern successfully. But when completed dialogue reappeared. Clicked OK, got "Nothing Changed" and it went away.
Next I tried to establish Wifi-WEP using pns-tool. Everything went well until it attempted to establish automatic dhcp? --one of these days I'll manage to memorize that acronym-- which timed out at second attempt. Used SNS successfully; started Seamonkey which offered to, and successfully, installed Flash.
[Comment: Not on Beta3 but on some prior Puplet I declined the offer and then had to go thru the hassle of manually installing flash. I recommend some menu entry or slickpet way of installing flash if initial offer is declined. Disregard this if it already exists].
Rebooted, creating SaveFile. Bootmanager automatically appeared offering the loading of SFSes.
Started Opera from /mnt/home/opera folder, from which I'm now reporting.
That's all for now.
Manual frugal installation on an ext4 partition. Installed usual applications and your NVIDIA 280.13.pet and everything works fine with one exception. Cups printer wizard will not recognize my HP5280 Photosmart All-in-one Printer/Scanner. I've installed hpijs_print-3.11.3.pet and hplip_scan-3.11.3.pet which has worked great with lucid. Attached is sys-info report.
gnumeric-1.10.17 looks good - opens .gnumeric .xls .ods files no problem
off to do full install to ext4 partition and load my applications
will update again later
I looked and looked and could not find it.
SNS was there and the old Network manager too but no SNS.
enhu wrote:same issue with nooby
Do you also use an external LCD screen? Or does this happen even on internal screens? Do you have Intel graphics? What could be the shared specifications that create this phenomena? Obviously the Devs don't have this problem or them would tell it as a known thing or them would do something about it.
It usually goes away if one change to openbox or E17 or LXDE or something other than the JWM.
Try Menu > Network > pns-tool connect from commandline
Don't let it scare you, it's very easy :) . Even works on my eee pc where sns fails every time. (my eee is wireless).
If yours is connected automatically at boot then there isn't a need to try pns-tool, but sure, if you want you can, unplug your connection first.
As for your screen issue, sure it is a jwm problem. Openbox is easily found in Puppy Package Manager.
Jim1911
The fact your printer isn't working is troublesome. I will investigate. I am in the process of compiling gutenprint-5.2.7, may help, I don't know.
-
Rob (tasmod)
Please do upload your fprot/xfprot compiles, I'll see if I can sort the icon issue.
-
Dave.. what happened? forgot to flip the switch? :wink:
-
There is already an extra app to get flashplayer in the internet menu if you decline at the first opportunity. :)
Keep testin' folks :)
Hi Mick,
Do you want the latest of both, they are in the 529 thread.
Or
the pet for 2.3 fix which is same as you have in iso ?
