My Wlan interface is detected but no networks are seen .Tried all options Frisbee-networkwizards all. No wireless..

Hi !

Problems with wireless above solved !
Not quite sure what did it exactly.
Followed the advise from some user who had the same problems.
His installpartition was ext2 formatted ...he changed to Ext3 .

I had ext 4 changed to ext 3..
But not quite sure if this was the main problem........
what i did .....
booted the fresh on a ext 3 installed dpup 5X10.3SMP ...and before stting up wlan i disabled frisbee networkmanager and rebooted .
Now i found my networks. not quite shure which of did the job ...but finally everythings fine.

Nice Distro pemasu Thanks for your hard work .

Barry Kauler posted possible fix for b43. Test this pet. For example with pfix=ram boot, install the pet and then reboot with save file creation, then in next boot you have updated rc.sysinit file in use and we can see if the fix really works.

Hi pemasu

The fix really works (at least for my 4311 version of b43 with v13 firmware) - now tested successfully in

slacko 5.3.1.3
racy 5.2.2

and now exprimo 5.x.10.3 with k3.1

Many thanks for creating the .pet - not something I could have done without lots of learning.

Cheers

Hi it`s me !

Pemasu..... i`d like to ask you something ..... (if you find time and your are in the mood to do so ) .
I am (not totally) new to computers and Linux ( with this strange language and all this strange sounding words and terms ) .
It seems clear that this Dpup 5X10.3SMP is meant for multi-core processors .
What would make the main difference and advantages in using it (in my case on a Dual- core desktop-machine ) instead of using Dpup 5X12 ?

Merci beaucoup in advance !

I have used core 2 and up kernel optimization when I compiled the kernel. It will have some benefits when having core 2 and more.
Does it affect to some usage. I really dont know. Puppies are fast anyway in my quad core. I have thought that testing this optimization does not hurt. I havent done any deep research of this area. So I cant give you scientific explanation. I have read about what this optimzation means and but...I cant reproduce that information. I think you need to use google or other search function for attaining this info. I can post the exact kernel config rows what I have used.

Thanks pemasu !

.....Puppys are making every old or new machine a superfast speed-box . I think it does not matter one millisecond more or less .
So I agree with you .........not realy necessary to dive deeper into this ocean .

Have a nice day .

pemasu,

Wow! Nicely done. My dual-core is recent to me, so I started with Fatdog, then added Lighthouse, and now Dpup. Seems to be solid, although the xorg probe hung and froze on my initial. No biggie, I rebooted and ran with Vesa. I hear the fan coming on like normal, so I know temp is being monitored about same as in others.

frugal install, 4gig 3fs save-file
ntfs partition, main sfs saved
Compaq nc6400
dual-core, 1.86ghz per core

Only a frugal so far, but I'm building a partition just for you :D

What do you suggest on java? I have the jre sfs from Fatdog on the same partition. Should I boot-load that, or use a dedicated jre, like a tar?

Thanks again. Great work,

Eathray

I have jre pet and sfs in exprimo repo. You can test Sfs Apps Loader icon and you get the list of downloadable sfs apps.

http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/pet_packages-exprimo/

Check apps which starts jre...

First test build with core 2 and up - SMP - hyperthreading kernel 3.1.10 now in use. I havent done any 3.1.10 needed fixes yet. b43 firmware package needs to be updated and I will go through posts of Slacko with 3.1.10 kernel before I upload this version. But it seems to work ok for me.

Great looking forward to it. My desktop and laptop both have Intel i7 8-core processors which really work better with the later SMP enabled kernels.

Thanks,
Jim

Very nice - I've just learnt something - running 5x10.3smp right now -

Emachines E732 laptop, 2gig ram, i3-370M proc, 1gig swap partition
(or no swap when booting from SDcard)

They seem made for each other - best regards - Ray

My first (uploaded) test version of Dpup Exprimo 5.X.13.SMP has been uploaded.
Going to go to the bed now.
Kernel 3.1.10 SMP - hyperthreading - core 2 and up optimization. Non PAE.
It has my latest Mplayer2 compile from fresh svn. I did try to make it as compatible as I knew. Stu90 posted that it passed his used different video formats. It should also support usual audio formats. Gnome-mplayer uses it now.
It has all the stuff from 5.X.13 build otherwise, except kernel and vattery-acpitool. Kernel headers in devx sfs of course changed also. I will upload kernel sources sfs tomorrow after work.

Browser still 9.01, but I did update it to 10 and it seems to work with latest flash. More feedback needed before I upgrade it to the build.

For record...I do use aufs still with 3.X kernels.

James C. Thank you of feedback. I will check where it resides. It should not be problematic to compile and add single missing drivers.
