Kirk,
All others having WIFI problems with Realtek RTL8192se device,

I downloaded the updated firmware and driver PETs in the post preceding this one.
I installed the PETs, rebooted, and my WIFI was found instantly.
Since my DSL modem has a key, I used the network wizard to set it up.

But now, I am online from my Toshiba laptop and like it.

I have to express my feelings here.

WHOOO! WHOOO!

Thank You Kirk! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hold your horses. It's not just the smart kiddies with scanners in your neighbourhood that are collecting info about you. There are 'professionals' as well as State-sponsored organisations who know what you had for breakfast. As I said before - pull up the floorboards and hard wire your house. Wi-Fi is the enduring proof that there's no such thing as a 'free lunch'. Why do you think the trade is so keen to have you broadcast yourself?! [Just in case anyone missed the point - FaceTube & co aren't so much social networking apps, more free trawls about consumers, where they live, what they buy, what they think, etc - the whole demographic picture.]

Thanks. I now understand. It appears that back then, they understood that those 2 fields were incomplete, so they "void".

That's their way of highlighting area of future concerns.

Even though Hardinfo has those 2 issues, its still a welcomed addition.

ThankYou.

OK, so I have the devx..
Where is the kernel source sfs for 3.03??

Did you have to blacklist or delete any modules?

Very Happy Hello,
@kirk,
Blacklisted 2800 as suggested, but 5390 didnt show up after install..
Rebooted.. No change...
Specified it and got no new interface.. Sad

Rebooted, and there was ra0 as hoped... Rolling Eyes

A side note...
On the newer kernels > 2.6.38.x the wireless switch is inoperable, but only after X loads.. If I press it before X loads, it will come on.. Odd...

Toshiba Satellite C665 ( PSC2EA-01H00E )

Solved and Working in FatDog64

Thanks to Aitch and kirk...and 8 bit.

And I understand where Sage is coming from.
What a sad world it's become.
And frightening.

But what I will say,is that most people bin their bills
into the garbage tin...no thought of the consequences.
Their ID is already iffy.

::::::::::::

But in a moment my compatriot Sage will sound a softie after
I comment.

Kirk:
" If your having problems with one of these wifi devices:

RTL8188CE/RTL8192CE

RTL8191SE/RTL8192SE

RTL8192DE

I've compiled the proprietary driver for it. "

I just booted into Win7 where>> Device Manager reports wireless
as >> RTL8188CE

while 8 bit sports a >>Realtek RTL8192se

""""""""""""

I installed the pet...thanks Kirk,
rebooted and did my usual 128 mb save to usb.]
Enough 4 testing purposes.

I rebooted...and lo and behold I see a wireless interface

reporting as >>wlan0 >> Wireless >> rtl8192ce >> pci
Realtek Semiconductor >> Device unknown.

Ah! PROGRESS.

OK! Use the network wizard ( depreciated )

Now why the hell was that there.

You had a perfectly usable wizard >> net-setup.sh

IN >> usr/bin

Why does everyone have to get so freakin' Fancy Pants
and it just turns to shit.

All your efforts are useless if basics like sound and networking
and video stuff up.

I understand it's hard to cater to everyone's whims.
But others have got the box and dice going nicely,
and then it's done over for no friggin' result.

Yes! I gave playdayz a work over sometimes because of
wireless and other issues.

But look at Lucid 528 now....a show champion.

And why is Frisbee not in all menus.
Thought I saw it there...Jeez.

When you're trying to test something and rebooting
so many times >> in so many Puppies >> trying to get one going,
it's pure misery looking in every bloody menu.

It might have been an oversight...but???

""""""""""

And what about the >> desktop.

I had a whinge a few times about the crap desktop in Lucid.

Why didn't you use the Fat Dog pic I saw in Firefox.
Too cartoonish?? ....ditch the bird...or was it a tribute to Barry?

If so...give us something as an alternate wallpaper.
The Firefox doggo is OK.

I am a plain Jane bloke.
But the world demands >> niceee niceee bling interface read >> desktop.

>>>>>>>

Now in all fairness I checked again.
I booted another Pup,
deleted the save file, rebooted Fat Dog, and installed the pet,

Oh! yes. Now I remember seeing that message now
>> use Frisbee

which was what I looked for, but which you kindly hid in Setup,
but did not display anywhere else.
I mean I enjoyed losing another hour connecting.
Obviously i will not change my user name to Sherlock Bear.
What a nightmare.

""""

Next sound >> as reported by windows it is

>> Conexant Smart Audio HD

I delete the save...again..with another Puppy.
I have already been through hell getting the sound to work,
but I'll play fair...do a fresh boot.

At boot to the desktop >> Nothing happens...
Is Fatdog a barker?

So in Alsa Equaliser Mixer
I changed to >> default >> and it is now showing
>> Conexant Cx20590

Once again...why isn't the >> multiple sound card there
in multimedia?? Another choice.

yet it's there in >> usr/bin

Try my test mp3...as there is no bark.

= xine engine error
Input plugin failed to open mrl /mnt.

Alsa Equaliser control is off...>> I turn it on.
Alsa Mixer shows...But mp3 fails again.

Chipset says alsaequal

Hit F6 >> highlight says >> enter device name

I select >> Default

Card >> HDA Intel PCH

Chip now shows >> Conexant CX20590

Hit F5 >> give Master a few more hits upwards

Esc...Still errors. bugger bugger

But Xine plays off my usb...yeah.

But not off my hard drive SDA2.
Come on,....this is bullshit.

Open up Pmusic to add the mp3 from SDA2.
It decides to play.

Why the hell is it so convoluted?
Plays off one drive and not another.
Why not let Pmusic default to play music.

Or is this a moment for Nooby to expound on root?

Is that what it's about?

Too hard.
Are we trying to attract people here or not?
Gee...might have to give Gentoo a go.

You are talented.... but this isn't Puppy 5 years ago.
I know nothing much about 32 and 64 bit.
And quite honestly I don't care to know.

I don't have to know much about cars either.
Most just get in and drive....poorly.

I thank you for giving me
a quick Windows alternative if this Toshiba goes down.

But man...what a day.

Chris.

Any torrents or mirrors welcome . . .
Should this be released as our first official 64bit Puppy? I hope so . . .

<snip>

You can now also download a copy from here, along with mdsum.

Enter user: puppy and pawsword: linux

And while i'm here, many thanks, Kirk and Jamesbond - earlier Fatdogs and the last beta are among my most-used on the Mac, since it's the only 64-bit machine i have. It's a great distro!

Cheers Very Happy

Thanks, guys, Fatdog65-520 is happily running in both Atom boards that I have: 230 and 410. I see that these Atoms are 64-bit compatible!

I can forget the blues in my Fusion laptop for now. [Correction below.]

EDIT: Since I added "radeon.modeset=0" in the kernel line while testing Racy Alpha, this AMD Fusion laptop has behaved nicely, and am using it now with FD64-520. Using synaptics multi-touch = WOW !!!

@raffy
I dont like seeing that your Fusion dont fire up and a atom does. My E-350 Fusion in an Acer Aspire only has a small hick-up in the touchpad. Firstly try firing up the live CD with a mice plugged in. I had no trouble doing a 'full install' to the HD, sfs's load on the fly, well Openshot did, does. 'adjust touchpad' in 'setup' dont work' touchpad might be too new for the kernel. My work around was to delete xorg.config (etc/x11) and to rename 'xorg.config without synaptics' (or what ever t.pad you have) as the new xorg.config and then change the min. mice speed from 1 up to 3 and max. speed up to 4. Very sloooow mice pointer. So if you can boot from any other Puppy CD try that.

Hey Kirk/Jamesbond,

Does Fatdog64 have 'Guvcview'? Had my camera working on Puppy 5.2.8 using this utility. Thx!

Hello,
Last summer Jamesbond and Kirk tried to help me get Fatdog 500 working on a VIA nano netbook, but it would freeze at the "loading kernel modules" stage. This post is to let you know that version 520 loads and runs as a frugal install. So far everything works, and I like it a lot.
Thanks!
