X hangs on bootup

I am trying to run a livecd version of chubby puppy. THe system boots up fine and everything is run on a ramdisk until I get done setting up the keyboard and mouse. After that the screen goes blank and nothing happens. I think that the GUI is loading up at that point and my video card is unable to display using whatever driver its using. I have an NVidia Geforce 6800GS and I am using the default from the menu to boot up. Is there a switch that I can use to set the driver to something different? thanks
