Same problem with square block substitution for fonts that Jim1911 encountered with Thunderbird. | Hi Nick,
I don't see any 64-bit downloads for Foxit Reader. Missing fonts may indicate the app was compiled for 32-bit. How about evince-2.29.92-x86_64.pet for Fatdog 64? nickdobrinich wrote: | What I really miss is the wbar from Lighthouse 5.03g.
When I try to run it from terminal, I get missing shared library libImlib2.so.1
I can't seem to find a 64 bit version of this lib.
Is there somewhere I should be looking?
Thx,
Nick | I don't have a 64-bit wbar Pet. There is a libimlib2 pkg here, but I haven't tried it. I use the CairoDock SFS. Much nicer than wbar and all 64-bit, however it does require a compositing window manager, such as Xfce, Compiz-Fusion or KDE with desktop effects.

Tazoc and Billtoo,
You guys are the best.
Wbar is now working without the Cairo dock.
I installed the non-DEV pets.
Will experiment further.
Thx.

TaZoC Subject description: I remember that you use VirtualBox |
|
in terms of VM, there were two items that came to light here. See section 1 and section 4
VirtualBox's introduction of bugs into the kernel and an advancement of QEMU and QEMU/KVM. It appears that a majority of users are using 64bit AMDs. All 64bit AMDs have VM hardware built-in (most 64bit Intels, too). This is required for KVM operations.
Assuming that LH64 is enabled for KVM in its kernel build, might this QEMU version work to our benefit?
One thing our 64bit systems give us is a wider memory and data paths, and typically we have more desktop memory (I have seen users from 1GB to 16GB RAM) in the 64bit forums. This puts us in a much better position to exploit this technology for our gains thru the OSes (kernel's) native use of the hardware.
If so, I'll start to look for reference and user-guide materials should this become a PET to work with our kernel. @JamesBond, I believe, is one of the resident experts on kernel needs for KVM operations.
It appears we really are on the doorstep of "jumping" to light-speed with the improvements happening all around us. It's like watching your soccer team as it become a number 1 contender in the world. <Pun>
hope this helps

LHP512 / WINE/ DIRECTX Subject description: Wine / Directx problem ... |

Thanks so much for the 64 bit puppy.
Couple of things have happened during my frugal setup:
I could not install / compile the nvidia 64 driver from the Nvidia website - error due to compiler version 4.5 not required 4.4 - so I used the nvidia driver pet:
NVIDIA-260.19.21-k2.6.35.7-L1.pet
I use vmware player so downloaded vmware player 4.0 .bundle from their website and installed - this failed (kept uninstalling itself right after install!). used the -I switch (ignore errorrs) and that sorted that.
sh VMware-Player-4.0.0-471780.x86_64.bundle -I
Vmware Player 4.0 seems to work.
I tried the compiz.sfs however came up with some problems there - no desktop or icons - big blue sky and ground but no cube so started again at that point...
Have I installed the correct driver package? That now looks unlikely as I have the following problem with wine:
Can anyone tell me what I'm missing and point me at the missing bits?

That is a small issue that should be resolved when TazOC releases his updated version. Last time we talked he was planning on making sure the GCC version included matched what the kernel was built with. (unless I misunderstood him)
So hopefully you will only have to deal with that for a short term. I'm in the same boat myself. You can manage to get the new driver to compile and load, but its not worth the hassle, and I get occasional X crashes because of it.
Stick with the pet you're using right now.

Many thanks for the advice - I've tried several different drivers and still no joy.
This is a known problem?
I couldn't find any other posts relating to it, so thought I had it wrong...
I'll keep watching this thread for updates / ideas.
This problem stops me from playing WoW and from running compiz.

HTTP server lashup Subject description: I really shouldn't have done it... |
|
In order to get my warcraft server back up and running quickly, i used an old copy of a 3 series apache / php / mysql .sfs which I have mounted on startup with bootmanager.
The mysql side runs (much to my suprise) once overwritten with a prior copy of the data.
However, the apache / httpd side will not run:
bash-4.1# /etc/init.d/rc.httpd start
/usr/sbin/httpd: error while loading shared libraries: libpcre.so.0: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
<root> ~
bash-4.1#
This leaves me in a bit of a spot.
Currently mangos runs (old compile done on windows and now running on my LHP512 under wine - I still haven't managed to get puppy to compile mangos but my old winxp box can do that and I can then copy the executable to the linux box and wine it...) using the old mysql database from the old, converted .sfs
This means that my warcraft server actually runs and is serving players, but my web server (which should show game info, allow signups and serve setup and other files) does not!
I noticed START -> NETWORK -> MONKEY SERVER hiawatha? web server and tried to run it, however LHP crashes and I can't seem to find any way to run the server at a command line. I expect the 3 series sfs file may be responsible.
What I need is a 64 bit xampp that will easily install under LHP512.
Any ideas? What is everyone else running?
Lastly, anyone fancy helping me to get mangos compiling under puppy? My last go some time ago (using the excellent Tipsy Puppy) was not a success! A search of this forum indicates that this is the only post with the word MANGOS in it. Mangos Pup anyone? Also there is an Eve server emulator (still early days) that I would love to get compiling and working:

Many thanks for the info - i missed the ref'd post somehow.
The fix looks a little beyond me.
BTW I have attackpup installed on a vm - knew I had seen your avatar before!
I still haven't had a chance to look at it properly but loved the look and feel.
Metasploit installed and updated and the tools I did look at all worked (some needed wifi driver patches- thats where I got lost).

Q5sys is correct. To address the kernel mismatch, I have re-compiled kernel 3.0.3 against gcc-4.5.2 for the next release. I've also re-compiled CUPS and am working on GTK2, gutenprint printer drivers, updates to the Video Wizard and proprietary drivers from ATI and Nvidia. I don't know why Compiz isn't working with Nvidia, but it's been hit and miss in my experience. Here is what my system is showing for dxdiag.exe Code: | <root> ~

I think dxdiag.exe is under development as I recall some mention of it in the release notes for Wine. I think Mesa/3D is working (try the Lighthouse 3D-Demo, Menu->System) in Linux, just not in Wine.
There are some DirectX components available via Winetricks from the Wine Menu in Lighthouse 64, but I haven't had time to experiment with them.
I'm testing a new boot option, pfix=pure64 which disables the zWine and 32-bit libs component, so that Lighthouse 64 can be booted in pure 64-bit mode without error. That, and an xz compressed main file might trim the base ISO down below 200M. Then, if desired, maybe the Fatdog 64 32-bit libs and 32-bit Wine SFS can be used. bash-4.1# | | That message indicates the 32-bit httpd SFS needs a 32-bit libpcre. I tried to install 64-bit httpd in PPM and it installs, but won't run, (undefined symbol) so maybe we could re-compile it. I don't have any experience with xampp or mangos.

Wine / GL / DX Subject description: Thanks for the response.... |

Many thanks for the response Tazoc ...
The GLXGEARS demo (MENU / SYSTEM / SYSTEM TOOLS / LIGHTHOUSE 3D-DEMO)
currently produces the following error with the pet driver - although it was fine at one point - I checked yesterday and all was fine :
"...
Close this window for next demo. Accumulating stats...
Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual
..."
Having checked xorg.conf I found a default copy of the file and replaced with details from my first post above. GLXGEARS works now. Swear I didn't mess with it so this remains unexplained. However SQLYOG still crashes as below.
SQLYOG crashes on window drag with the following error:
<root> ~/.wine/drive_c/Program64/SQLyog
bash-4.1# wine SQLyogCommunity.exe
fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation (nil) 1 (nil) 0
fixme:ntdll:NtLockFile I/O completion on lock not implemented yet
fixme:imagelist:ImageList_DragLeave DragLeave hWnd != DragEnter hWnd
X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 53 (X_CreatePixmap)
Serial number of failed request: 28433
Current serial number in output stream: 28652
and also crashes / wipes out with no error at console when I right click any folder ...
I'm keeping my current copy of LHP512 rather than trying chroot or going back to my old LHP install - - I'm bound to mess chroot up and frankly its soooo sweet having the latest OS on my machine that I cant bring myself to roll back to LHP503G.
Obviously I'll keep an eye out for the next release.
I'll take the machine in question offline tonight and see if I can sort the webserver. I'll try the xampp .pet that forum user Growler produces. That fails, I'll try the current ver. from apachefriends.
I must admit that I am missing a full working Wine. My copy of SQLYOG is also having problems under LHP512 (crashes when I move the window or click certain stuff) but I have a VM for that so it could be worse!
Again - many thanks for responding to my post and for all the work that has obviously gone in. It is appreciated.
EDIT: Added output from glxgears and SQLYOG
EDIT: Sorry for all the edits!

Hi again...
<root> ~
bash-4.1# smbpasswd
bash: smbpasswd: command not found
How would you recommend I install smbpasswd?
Would this pet be suitable?
Simply, Teaching FATDOG to SAMBA (Full Windows Sharing)

The link on the top of that page is missing so I assume it is these 3 packages?
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/fatdog/pets/500/
samba-3.5.6.pet 2010-Nov-22 16:00:22 44.7M
Failed to install - turns out it was a corrupt download ... still have not tested though
samba-docs-3.0.37.pet 2010-Oct-27 23:21:24 7.3M
did not try
*** samba-extras-3.0.37.pet 2010-Oct-27 23:23:28 9.1M
gave me the smbpasswd command

bash: smbpasswd: command not found | @Meshworks. Sorry for the delay to this.
The SAMBA that ships pre-installed with both FATDOG and LH64 has some shortcomings. These have been overcome with the SAMBA that is available in the Update Icon on your desktop.
Install it and ALL expected SAMBA features will be available to you, as well as, current international standards in that release as well. That version will work in all known LAN environments which use CIFS/SMB/SMB2. It also provides much needed functionality, should you need it, that is NOT included with the SAMBA that is pre-installed.
This SAMBA will automatically install replacing the pre-installed SAMBA. You'll simply need to set smbpasswd for a current Linux user, define a share in the smb.conf (don't forget to chmod the share), and away you go providing information, multimedia, or storage to any/all Apple/Microsoft/Linux devices on your LAN..
Hope this helps

Web Server - [Solved] Subject description: Solution for web services |

After some failed attempts with other pets and sfs files, the above linked version runs fine.
From the above linked page:
Extract the downloaded archive file to /opt:
tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.7.7.tar.gz -C /opt
Warning : already installed XAMPP versions get overwritten by this command.
That's all. XAMPP is now installed below the /opt/lampp directory.
Step 3: Start
To start XAMPP simply call this command:
/opt/lampp/lampp start
You should now see something like this on your screen:
Starting XAMPP 1.7.7...
LAMPP: Starting Apache...
LAMPP: Starting MySQL...
LAMPP started.
Ready. Apache and MySQL are running.
Don't forget to change the default passwords!
/opt/lampp/lampp security
: )
EDIT: SOLVED... One problem from my error log:
sh: htpasswd: command not found
How do I add the htpasswd command?
command is at /opt/lampp/bin/htpasswd ...
bash-4.1# whereis htpasswd
htpasswd: /opt/lampp/bin/htpasswd
