lupumini

I tried the lupumini on a virtualbox with 256MB RAM without swap.
lupumini-5.2.8.6 -- Lucid Pup with Z-drive and 121MB main SFS file, appropriate for 256MB+ RAM and minimal 160MB download size
It runs, but freezes when i tried to install seamonkey-1.1 via quickpet.
The lupumini on the 256MB RAM loads both the 121MB main SFS plus the 35MB Z-drive on the RAM at a time.
That is the same as the lupu with the 155MB main SFS, and they freezes when installing browser pets.

Anyway, I do not think the lupu is appropriate for 256MB RAM without swap.
One of the reason is the lupu does not have full featured browser, and it is a concept of the lupu.

The lupu-528JP, the Japanese edition has a seamonkey on the live cd as a seperate SFS.
But anway the lupu-528JP is not appropriate for 256MB RAM without swap.

On low ram (256MB) computers.
I think, if you make a save file and boot using it, you can get large programs to install with no problems.

Lucid Pup 5.2.8.6 disk images updated to 20131004

I have uploaded a set of 4 ISO files labeled as 20131004. They are available at the link at the original download posting, which explains the updates:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 108#726108

The main improvements are:
  • - standardization of the mounted drive icons to provide the "X box" for unmounting (yay!)
    - addition of momanager for internationalization support
Please tell me if I need to add more to assist translation. Although it is not practical to internationalize everything in lupu, I am willing to add packages of internationalized versions of specific applications, if they are not dependent on kernels later than 2.6.33. Just request them.

Volhout requested:
- a terminal program where I can "cut and paste" with the same shortcuts as I can in other programs (either ctrl-C, ctrl-X and ctrl-V, or rightclick copy and rightclick paste).
LXTerminal (included in Lupu) supports right-click copy/paste, and the corresponding keyboard shortcuts are Shift+Ctrl+C and Shift+Ctrl+V.

Also, ROXTerm (included in Lupu) has similar functions.

However....... none of the 528 versions I tried would boot on the k6-2. Attempted 528,528.004 and 528.005 as well as a couple of rerwin's updated versions.....pfix=ram,pfix=nocopy,default boot made no difference ....all had kernel panic.

End of k6-2 testing. :)

James C,
Playdayz's statement on page 1 explains what you are seeing:
Lucid Puppy 5.2.8 is the fastest, friendliest, and most fun Lucid yet. It is the fastest because it is the first Lucid derivative to use the C and ffmpeg libraries optimized for i686 computers rather than the older i386 computers.
Apparently, everything compiled as C programs are potentially the cause of the problem, specifically if they use the "cmov" instruction introduced with the i686 architecture.

Maybe substituting some of the compiled programs with versions from 525 would work around the issue. The first area to examine is the bootup process, to find the C programs involved, to get past the kernel panic. We could probably live without programs dependent on ffmpeg (video processing) in those older machines. Anyone up for that? Once they are identified, I could build an ISO for the hybrid.

MD5 sum for lupu-5.2.8.6-20131004.iso

Some of us are on slow and noisy internet websites and we need an official MD5 sum!

I have had to download lupu-5.2.8.6-20131004.iso two times now and have different MD5 amounts.

When did the MD5 sum become obsolete?

lupu 5.2.8.6 md5 Checksums

Sorry to have omitted checksums for my lupu 5.2.8.6 ISO files. I am accustomed to uploading pet packages, which handle checksums internally. I have now included a ".md5" file in the (mediafire) Disk Images directory. Here is what it contains:

Code: Select all

87f469597336cf60f0c53ed727d07a4e lupu-5.2.8.6-20131004.iso
1eb9eedd8300fed7b37e24548c5b5431 lupulibre-5.2.8.6-20131004.iso
7ff7b74d43c4e83aa2322bd247603d5d lupumini-5.2.8.6-20131004.iso
22af50e7249f5c199a36d3d962a17c80 lupuplus-5.2.8.6-20131004.iso
Don922, thanks for alerting me to the omission.

majorfoo,
Thanks for your report. I included the latest versions of pburn and getflash; maybe there is some incompatibility at work here. I hope zigbert sees your pburn result. Could you say more about what you saw with the included getflash, so shinobar might be able to advise us about it? For both issues, could you (in a fresh, non-updated session) run getflash, then pburn, restart X, then create a pdiag file for diagnosis, in case it has related error messages? Thanks for any help on this.

No need to replace. In the case of scripts that can't be updated, we can simply add gettext. Note also that the scripts gettexted by rodin.s are specifically from Lupu 528-004, they aren't scripts from the latest Puppy builds. If you updated some applications, these are likely to be arleady gettexted (pMusic for example) or have gettext versions (PupClockset).

Also note: Momanager requires the devx to work, unless you modify it to work without it (by including gettext out of the box, etc.).

Booted my original copy of iso, installed seamonkey browser and tried to run Getflash install Flashplayer from menu >Internet

Received following message:

Unable to connect to Server, Please check your internet connection.

I am on the internet with browser minimized when trying to run getflash and above message appears. If I install Get Flash-04.pet, then it downloads ok

I cannot recreate the problem with Pburn today using original ISO

I have tried this twice and works just fine today. I probably had a senior moment yesterday.
