I did a frugal install on Acer D250 10" small Netbook it has a single core Atom Intel CPU and intel chips for graphics.

I used pfix=ram to not catch any previous. But that was not a good thing because it totally failed to make 1024 x 768.

I ran it some 5 times and always failed to do 1024 x 768 only 1024 x 600.

I restarted the x several times but to no avail.

Then I gave up on using pfix=ram and moved the spup-312 pupsave file and renamed it to slackosave and that worked. Now I have 1024 x 768. It was difficult to get 1024 x 768 on spup too I had to retry the boot up several times.

In Lupu there never where these problems. What is different? :)

No problems to report so far.
Sound and network connection present at boot.
Installed the Nvidia driver and now have glxgears working.
Added Opera,Chromium 15,Firefox Aurora and Thunderbird 3.1.9.
Will Firefox Aurora and Thunderbird be updatable at some stage?

Looking good :D

Manual frugal install.
On first boot wired network and sound good, screen resolution good too.
# report-video
VIDEO REPORT: Slacko Puppy, version 4.99.1

Chip description:

and Audio Decoder (rev 04)

Driver used by Xorg:
radeon

Video mode used by Xorg:
Resolution: "1920x1080" Depth: Depth 24

Installed mesa glx in slickpet and needed to run xorgwizard again to
get back to the desktop, I got an error after running glx gears:
# glxgears
glxgears: error while loading shared libraries: libxcb-glx.so.0: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
#
Rebooted creating save file and loading devx.

Increased size of save file from menu then edited pupsaveresize.txt in
/mnt/home to 4194304 to save many reboots.
Rebooted.

Used ati_fglrx-11.7-k2.6.37.6-s.pet from slickpet and exited to prompt as
instructed to do "aticonfig --initial" but entering "xwin" got a black screen
which required holding down the off button to shut down the computer.
During reboot it did fsck and I chose Ignore and got back to the desktop.

Installed report-video-glx-0.4.pet and got this output from it:

# glxgears

42060 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8411.975 FPS
42111 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8422.112 FPS

It's working good now I think :)

Booted live cd and used xorg-probe - accepted highlighted 1024x768
and desktop appeared. Looks good. Sound works and auto connected to internet using eth0 and dsl.

Tried downloading audacious 2.44 which had following depends
audacious-2.44 plugins
libmcs-0.7.2
libmowglp-0.71
libmtp-1.0.1
libsamplerate-0.17
openssl-solibs-0.98
sdl-1.2.14
wavpak-4.60.1

after downloading this 17mb and installing, was still missing libneon-so-27

Gave up-rebooted to clean desktop and installed audacious 3.0 lucid pet, which works great

next installed roxterm-1.17.1lucid pet and it also works great.

Not sure how many of the pets from lucid are going to work but will keep adding to see what happens.

Hi 01micko,

Manual frugal installation on an ext4 partition. I refrained from adding any software other than the NVIDIA driver while I checked out the base files. My HP Photosmart 5280 installed fine  and everything appears to be working fine except for glx-gears. This beta distribution appears to be even faster than your last version which surprised me since it uses the same kernel. Now I'll give it a workout by adding my normal software. Thanks for all your hard work.

Cheers, :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

The native resolution of your netbook is 1024x600. Why are you trying to force it to something else?

Audacious 3.0.1 is out. I will try to compile it in Slacko and make a pet--when I recover from Lucid 528--maybe by December ;-)

seem to be having a whole load of problems, many with .pets such as right-click-4.9.4.pet, which worked fine in previous release. Missing icons from the menu too. Maybe my download is poor.

Try switching icon sets via the desktop menu. Do you then end up with some menu items without icons?

The pngoverlay thing is not working properly. Mount my Sd card correctly, but clicking the X to unmount it just brings up a rox window for it. I think this is a woof thing though?

Yes sorry I should have given the relevant info. I am old have bad eyes and don't want to invest in new Glasses / Specticals so I make use of an external screen that is big but it is 4:3 instead of 16:9 so it makes use of 1024 x 768 while 16:9 works with 1024 x 600 but on the big 4:3 screen the 1024 x 600 leave a huge space unused under everything. Browser pics videos ....

Now 18 out of 20 different Puppies do accept to show 1024 x 768 so only a few fail to do it.

Now I am just one person. There are millions out there with bad eye sight that also reuse old monitors or buy a cheap new LCD screen to help them see text on internet or when they read books or surf.

if it works on the majority of Puppies then it would be consistent to expect it to work on the more "modern" Slacko.

Unless it is incredibly difficult to achieve.

One can at least explain why it fails and the work around that I found. To use an older Spup save file that have 1024 x 768 and upgrade that one to latest Slacko which retain the ability to show 1024 x 768 while a new install fails to do it.

Playdayz told me a trick the other day but it failed on this one. I tried that trick 5 times and never achieved 1024 x 768 until I reused the save file.

Sorry if I come through as annoying. I want Puppy to just work even when the set up is a bit unusual.

manual frugal install to ext4. broadcom spup pet installed and able to bring up wl driver. Sns failed to make wifi connection, see below.

Sns also failed when using broadcom wl.ko pet during 262 thru 528 development as reported at that time.

connection wizard incorrectly report success without an established wifi connection and upon rebooting the "saved" setting vanished requiring another setup process resulting in the wizard again erroneously reporting another success.

connection wizard also failed when using broadcom wl.ko pet during 262 thru 528 development as reported at that time.

rebooted installed frisbee which failed to make connection while erroneously reporting it was successful. see attached. Uninstalled frisbee.

rebooted and repeated sns which failed again timming out as did initially. then tried connection wizard again which erroneously reported success.

rebooted finding connection wizard did not save prior setting then frisbee again installed this time did make wifi connection. have not rebooted yet fearing the worst.

Sns failure report.

 Still standing in the corner with my dunce cap on, for not being able to check am ISO md5sum

Onward . . . :)

Yesterday my sound was working
and my pic quality is very good
. . . today my sound goes on . . . well . . . I see the icon in the toolbar and then it mutes itself and goes red . . .
The sound is up, the right card is selected . . . should be able to hear sound.
No sound.
Been fiddling with settings, rebooting, running alsa and other wizards
Can not get sound.
My latest theory is somehow old config files from Alpha?
Not sure how . . .
I seem to remember the ATI driver has some sound controls but am not finding anything I can use?
Stumped. Will leave for now unless someone has an idea?

frisbee has survived a reboot making the wifi connection automatically but the tray icon shows erroneously the off symbol. I'm just happy to connect.
