Billtoo - yes the automatic reboot caused problems. I've removed the forced reboot, now you have to reboot manually. The pet has been updated.
cheers!

First port of call, kirk!
What puzzles me is that, although I've not been doing a lot of 64bit stuff (due, originally, to advice from an industry guru, that turned out to be highly contentious!), none of the other distros have any problems with SiS Mirage chipset?
Reluctant to stick in a PCI-e card as on-board is entirely satisfactory for 99% of my work. Don't d/l or watch videos much, pile of pants. We have enough gratuitous sex & violence without simulations from Hollyweird...

Thanks for fixing the pet.
I like to install the latest nvidia proprietary driver using the diy
method but that doesn't work on 520rc.After creating a save file and
loading the devx and also deleting the nouveau.ko driver I rebooted
with pfix=nox and went to the command prompt instead of the desktop.
I had the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-280.13.run file in the root directory
and when I went to install it I got an error message that it couldn't
find the kernel source files.
I copied the fd64-devx_520.sfs to /mnt/home and loaded it after creating
a save file so I'm sure that I have the newest devx loaded.
The nvidia driver is updated fairly often with bug fixes etc. so being
able to install the new driver whenever it comes out is good I think.
I may have made an error but I've been able to install the nvidia
driver on earlier betas but can't on the rc.

I first deleted the nouveau dirs and then just did a normal reboot (not pfix=nox). Then exited to a prompt and installed the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-280.13.run file.
Incidentally, I've run into the same message "error message that it couldn't
find the kernel source files" and after checking found that I had forgotten to reboot after loading the devx sfs with the bootmanager. I've not tried "SFS load on the fly".

Yes, that worked. I guess booting with pfix=nox threw a wrench into
the works.
Thanks

I've uploaded a pet package for Firefox-6.0:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/fatdog/broken/Firefox-6.0.pet
Test it out if you can. Firefox has changed the way it does version numbers, it doesn't look like a major upgrade. If it tests well, we'll put it in for final.
If you have already tried the included Firefox-5.0.1, delete /root/spot/.mozilla.

Kirk/JamesBond, I realize the many hours invested to get the stable "RC1" we currently have.
You have made some important recent video PETs and system updates.
Might you consider one more "RC" before releasing "Final" which contains all of the updates and progress made this week. There still seems to be a minor issue I am having with persistence in RC1 for Live media. I hope to get back on this tomorrow for you but have commitments until end-of-day tomorrow. If you think it prudent, it should insure that the "final" is integrated and fully addresses Live and Frugal user needs without adding PETs to resolve.
Also, please be aware that the hostname update does address the OTB requirements for this community. Thanks for realizing the importance.
Hope this helps.

X, sfs and lxpanel |

Very nice dog Kirk and JamesBond! I made the switch from puppylinux to fatdog because I need all the ram for virtualbox. Congratulations!
Some minor issues:
1-contents of /usr/lib are not written to destination
happens with devx and LibreOfc-3.3.1_en-US_64bit_sfs4.sfs and fd64-devx_520.sfs
message:
# sh install_sfs
cp: cannot overwrite non-directory `/usr/lib' with directory `/data/usr/lib'
#
To clarify things, I use a full install and a script to copy everything into the filesystem. I used it from puppylinux4-series into the 5-series and now fatdog511 and 520b5/b6/b7. Only in fatdog520rc I encountered this issue. I checked and indeed the files supposed to go in usr/lib were not there. I suppose it has to do with /usr/lib being a symlink to /usr/lib64 but that is how far I got so far (which is not far at all, sorry!)
This is the script I use but I doubt it has anything to do with this issue:
| Code: | #!/bin/sh
SFS="*.sfs" #copy *.sfs to / first.
cd /
mkdir /data
mount -o loop $SFS /data
cp -a -v --remove-destination /data/* / >devcopy.txt
umount /data
sync
rmdir /data
gxmessage -center -font "sans 16" -geometry 200x30 -timeout 4 -bg "green" -buttons "" -title "SFS-copy" " Done! "
###END### |
2-Just after starting X is halted. Black screen and movable mouse point. Crt-alt-backspace to quit X. Happens irregulary but also from the life cd and the 3 beta's I tested, mentioned above. I am not sure about 511 and I did not test other beta's. See Xerror.jpg it is clear enough I believe, something is keeping X busy. It helps to disable some startup scripts but so far I can not erradicate it completely.
Am I the only one with this problem? It seems so...I did not come across this error on the forum.
3-lxpanel's desktop pager has an error, it only displays the windows
rectangles from the active workspace, not from all. Works on LucidPuppy 520.
And I can not edit it from the gui (panel preferences-Panel Applets), the edit button is greyed out. Fatdog uses lxpanel-0.3.8.1. And this error was fixed in newer releases, but there is a fix supposedly. I used this diff and rebuild lxpanel from source but it didn't work.

Any suggestions how to proceed?
I also tried a newer version but there I run in other problems, I will look into this a bit more later. Stupid enough this problem irritates me more than the other two, maybe because I got so used to it in lucid puppy.
But as I said, minor issues. I love this dog!

gcmartin, kirk is going to post RC2 soon. So please do let us know what your problem is.
Hans,
For Problem #1 -
- devx in RC has a problem - pygtk update went to /usr/lib instead of /usr/lib64. This will be fixed in RC2.
- there is nothing impotrant in libreoffice /usr/lib, you can ignore the error
Problem #2 -
Yeah that's puzzling. Sounds like timing issue - openbox/lxpanel is started before Xorg is ready.
Problem #3 -
lxpanel 0.3.8.1 is venerable indeed, has been there since the very first version of Fatdog (it was still 32-bit then) You can't just compile plain lxpanel, it has to be patched (otherwise you see no menus), and newer version of lxpanel isn't that easy to compile also. I'm not even aware of that as a "bug" until you say it works like that in Lucid

Xorg and lxpanel |
|
Thankx for the info jamesbond
problem #2: I can try to delay openbox/lx a bit. And no one ever reported this? I feel lonely....
problem #3: lucid is using a newer version, 0.5-something. But maybe compiling under 32bit is more straight foreward? I still have a go at compiling a new one I think.
problem #4, (sorry): Abiword aborts the moment I mark text. Has this been reported earlier? Or is it again me?
Question:
Is there a good way to log the console-messages at shutdown?
So once in a while I see quite a lot of them flashing by. Not allways though.

Confirmed. I have come to the opinion that even Ted would be a better basic word processor than Abiword.

Drivers for AMD Radeon HD chips in New Fusion APUs |
|
Allow me to post the URL to the drivers of Radeon HD chips that come with AMD's E- and C-builds (the so-called Fusion APUs by AMD)
here (The specific chips of interest are AMD Radeon HD 6310 and HD 6250.)
The new Fusion builds are coming out in the form of inexpensive 14"-15" laptops - they are as large as the old laptops but have midget power consumption and price. Fatdog64 is just right for these revolutionary APUs.
Note: In my test of the E-350, only ISpup is able to keep X operating. X hangs when the power-saving features start (such as dimming the screen), and I suspect that ISpup does not use the said trick. Trying "apm=off" or "acpi=off" gave no joy. See the Xorg files of ISpup here.

Hans,
problem #2 - no, seems that you're the first one to report.
problem #3 - Fatdog's lxpanel source is here http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/fatdog/source/l/ if you want to try to add that feature.
problem #4 - that's too bad. kirk upped abiword to 2.9.1 in beta7 I think. Didn't try the cut and paste then, for me I used abiword more as a quick file viewer (for serious work I use libreoffice) - that works. Now we need to downgrade again to 2.8.6 (version used in 511 and earlier 520 betas).
rcrsn51, I tried Ted. Compiled ok, ran ok, but when I tried to open the "font tool" (hoping to be able to change the font), it crashed

problem #2 - my hardware is keeping X busy apparently
problem #3 - I did use that same source, did not work. No errors, just no changes. But there is more to the version lucid is using. The desktops do not only show all open windows but show the wallpaper as well. I will have a go at the newer version, it seems to be a bit more complete.

Jamesbond, I did not do my homework correctly, lucid is NOT using lxpanel but fbpanel 6.1. Sorry for the confusion.
On the bright side, lxpanel is showing the windows in all desktops now, using the diff posted earlier. Only it crashes when I click on panel settings, shown in de picture. I will try to find out what is causing this.
