Subject description: All 64 bit.

I've uploaded beta 7.

Linux-2.6.39.4
Abiword-2.9.1
Alsa equalizer
Xorg recompiled
xf86-video-nouveau-git
xf86-video-intel-git

Lots of changes. James has been busy, he got xorg-server going with udev. So we've recompiled the xorg stuff. We're running without a xorg.conf by default now. There's a file /etc/X11/no-xorg.conf which needs to be there if you want to run without a xorg.conf. James added Alsa equlizer, you'll find it under multimedia. I think were settled on 2.6.39.4, I still have issues with my dell e6410 ironlake graphics, but not too bad, and probably more of a bios issue. Other bug fixes.

Changes since beta 6:

Linux-2.6.38.8
small fixes

Changes since beta 4:

Flash Player 11b
Linux 2.6.29.3
e2fprogs-1.41.14
parted-3.0
gparted-0.9.0
acpid-2.0.10

Changes since beta 3:

Firefox-5.0.1
udev-166
Linux-3.0rc7
Sevn configured.

Changes since beta 2:

Firefox-5.0
Thunderbird-5.0
Added Peasyscan.
Fixed encrypted saves
Fixed some mime types for Firefox and Thunderbird integration.
Added folder /usr/share/cups/model.
Other small fixes.

Changes since beta 1:

Upgrade to Mesa-7.10.3
Added Shinobar's SFS-on-the-fly
Added nmblookup
Recompiled kernel with Radeon KMS enabled by default.
Fixed JWM menu.
Fixed Downloads folder drag and drop.
Fixed Cups permissions.

Manual frugal installation works great with everything I've checked including installing NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-280.13.run and my HP printer. Only exception is that the wine sfs does not work.

OOO-3.4,0_64 works fine.

System: BFG NVIDIA Geforce 8400 GS 512MB, Asus P6T Motherboard, Intel core i7-920 (8MB Cache, 2.66 GHz), DDR3 3GB 1333MHz ram, Pioneer DVR-2910 DVD+-RW Dual Layer Burner, Realtek ALC1200 Audio, HP Photosmart C5280 All-in-One

timothy - I have a version of libreoffice 3.4 which I've been using for a while.
Jim, I'll look at that wine.sfs - it's really old. green_dome has posted version 1.3.25, I think it's due for an update.
cheers!

I found out that the it depends on how I start the program. If I start the Impress program directly from /opt/libreoffice/program/simpress, it crashes. If I start the startcentre (soffice) first, then select presentation from the menu, Impress starts OK.

PostPosted: Sat 13 Aug 2011, 20:05    Post subject: Just Checking in

Hi Kirk, jamesbond & All,

Just checking in with a preliminary report about Beta7. Thank you for another great job. Everything important worked OOTB, including fd64-32bit-libs.sfs, wine-1.3.25.sfs & LibreOffice64bit.sfs, and flash.

Processor: 4x AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor
Memory: 3796 MB (298MB used)
Resolution: 1600x900x24 pixels
VGA compatible controller: ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics
Network controller: RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI

I tried to save myself some time by using the SaveFile from Beta6. Everything initially looked fine. Mouse worked. Keyboard didn't. So I deleted SaveFile, rebooted and rebuilt my standard setup. Renamed Firefox-spot/Aurora.desktop to "SafeBrowser.desktop" and gave it a different icon, deleting desktop short-cut and dragging Safebrowser.desktop to the desktop. That way I could install Firefox64-bit running from /mnt/home. I also installed Opera64-bit running from /mnt/home. Restarting X gave a menu entry to SafeBrowser.

Switched to JWM and added mtpaintsnapshot to tray. However, the icon I selected for the tray was not written to jwmrc-tray. I had to edit that file by hand to add it, both the "tool-tip" and executable having been picked up. Only the icon designation was in error reading: icon="".

The above has been my experience with all recent puppies.

Frisbee worked its usual magic, and the setting persisted on reboot.

Only one other quibble so far. Deleting icons from the desktop does not survive a reboot. They reappear.
Edit: Rebooted (again?) and they're gone (for now). Maybe I just forgot to delete them?

Edit: Oh, one other thing I just occurred to me. I've been busy lately. I bookmark the last page of each thread I'm following. So when I click it and see nothing has changed, I'm prone to assume nothing has actually changed. I can understand why it may be important to start a new thread whenever you've make important changes. But if you think of it, could you post a clickable link to the new thread as the last post in the old thread. And maybe post a clickable link near the start of the new thread to the old thread so anyone first discovering FatDog64 can catch up on what's been done and why.

Thanks again,

mikesLr
