TV tuner software for puppy? |
|
So I have a generic tv tuner that works on windows, and it comes with a cd installer.
I want to know, how will I be able to make it work on puppy? Can you suggest tv tuner softwares?
I am using wary 5.1 and lucid 5.2

G'day,
Analog or digital TV card?
Analog - you could try the Ubuntu package of tvtime for lucid. I have not been able to get my hybrid card to work with analog tv on Puppy. But I live in an area well serviced by terrestrial dvb so only use digital tv on my computers.
Digital - most multimedia players in Puppies will play dvb very well as long as you:
1) have the right channels config data for your area (there is a scan facility in one linux-tv pet which I find is not easy to get working (CLI only) but will eventually work). A channels.config file can be used with mplayer, xine, gxine, vlc, etc. either by for example copying into the /root/.mplayer or /root/.xine directory, or just opening the channels.conf file by File>Open in vlc. Most players don't seem to like frequent changes of channel.
2) and more importantly, you have a good aerial or satellite connection to your card.

I have used vlc with my tv tuner stick and digital tv antenna broadcasts. I even posted some of my prochedures about one year ago to some lucid puppy development thread.
