Browserlinux 501
Size: 93Mb
Browser: Firefox 5.0.1
Flash: 10.3
BrowserLinux is a small Puplet for surfing the web.
If you want an operating system for editing movies, writing letters or
printing spreadsheets: don't use Browserlinux, but use Puppy Linux.
In version 501 no Google Chrome installer anymore, but if you want it:
Iron for Browserlinux (http://www.browserlinux.com/software/Ir ... .650.0.pet)

Excellent
Can't wait to give this a try!!
Thanks for your continued support and updates!! yay!!
BTW .... it's not listed on the main site yet
[ EDIT ]
Just running off a LiveCD at present.
So far the applications all seem to work however I have noticed two things:
remove_buildins.desktop does not open up any application ( needs to removed? )
when ' Viewing Processes ' you get two dialog boxes open, the first RXVT and then HTTOP
Apart from those minor items, it works for me.
Just a reminder to others, if you do decide to use 'Google Chrome' as your browser, once it is installed you can locate it in:
opt/google/chrome
There is a desktop icon available and you can customise the icon with the selection of icons provided ..... would be nice if someone could change the coloured icons into the black/grey icon theme used by BrowserLinux.
Thanks again!!

Thanks for the icon ( don't seem to be able to download it ? ) ..... suprised no-one has mentioned it before.
One of the biggest problems I have had with this so far is that I am unable to create a usb flash drive installation of your OS.
I have checked the md5 and they do match:
I have tried the app 'Install to flash-usb' choosing Usb-hdd ( preferred choice ) and got this error message after compilation:
This is not a bootable disk. Please insert a bootable floppy and press any key to try again.
I have also tried the Universal Installer ( which is what I use normally ) and get a similar error. All the files appear to be intact and have checked the *.cfg file to see that the media is usbflash.
Not sure what has happened here?
[edit]
I have read this on the forum and it may solve my problem ....
"Boot flag is on
I solved the problem by selecting mbr.bin instead of
default mbr selection. "
Also I do not see to be able to detect soundcards on two pcs using Alsa Sound Wizard ( Realtek AC97 Audio ) and an Intel driver for a Dell pc.
Finally I noticed that there are some files which could ( ? ) be removed ?
/usr/include/Abiword 2.8
/usr/share/Abiword 2.8
Apart from that I think it's great especially as you can now use DEB files to install applications ( guessing Alien2Pet could be used here ). The Google Chrome DEB file just worked straight out the box.
Thanks again
Oops sorry forgot to add, I did like the option to 'Remaster Live CD' that was included in this build, I thought it would be useful if like me you like to add some packages and make an ISO which can be used instead of having to install applications each time.

Yes, a problem with the installers. Syslinux needs a chmod 1777 /tmp and that is wrong in a live session.
So, if you want to make a USB-stick with the installer (in a live session), first type in a terminal:
# chmod 1777 /tmp
I will add this in the script.
EDIT:
I made an "easy" version of the script bootflash with the chmod 1777

Thanks for the script, I will try it out and see if it works for me
Still having problems with the audio driver, the device I have is:
Intel Corp 82801G - AC'97 ( ICH7 family )
I have a look at the modules ( can't recall exactly where! ) and it does appear to be loaded ie AC97 but not recognised at all.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for the update
Love the app starter - it just makes it even more user friendly for people using Linux for the 1st time all the apps are 'just there!'
FYI, my sound card problem seems to be resolved when I use the official release 'version 5.1.1'.
Is this the build your using for Browserlinux 400?
Or is built on official version 5.1.0 ?
Regards

In this build ( beta 5 ), I seem to have a small problem which is extremely annoying and am unable to find a solution to my problem.
I have installed this to a USB flash memory drive and created a 'save' file.
Now when I reboot and get onto my desktop, I get the PMount dialog box appearing asking me if I wish to mount my internal HDD.
Even if I choose 'no' the dialog box keeps on returning and will not disappear.
I am at a lost as to why this happens continually
A solution would be appreciated.
[EDIT]
Solved the problem, just reinstall the OS to the stick .... problem seems to have disappeared however I do notice the when using the filemanager, it continually seems to scan.

Boxee and Browserlinux 400 b5
Has anyone added Boxee to their Browserlinux 400 b5 ? I added the xorg-high pet and download Boxxe (changed properties, too), but so far no luck. Appreciate any suggestions.
Weighing in here to offer kudos for a well-made and thoughtful puplet! Works great! I do prefer another browser other than the two offered, but it was no trouble hitting the package manager and loading the one I wanted. Nice compact iso without a lot of bloat and low ram usage, great job, can't wait to see the next version!
