I cant much help with your printer - cups problem more. I suggest you to test it with pristine pfix=ram booting.

About Filezilla. It should not complain about missing dependencies.
Are you sure you installed this pet: http://smokey01.com/pemasu/pet_packages-exprimo/filezilla-3.5.0.pet I am not in 5.X.14 build but in much newer one...so I cant be sure.
and not from squeeze debian repo.

OK re. CUPS ... it usually is a nightmare to troubleshoot when it goes bad ... I've enjoyed a long period without failure. Of course it would happen the very same day I started a Web host transfer ... sigh.

I had used the 3.16 that I found via Puppy Manager in the Exprimo repository - I will overwrite it with the PET you linked.

EDIT: Your Filezilla PET worked fine. Filezilla says there is an update to 3.5.3 - is it safe (when using Exprimo) to let Filezilla do updates like that?

Thanks!

@edoc. Have you done this yet?
1. Install the foo2xxx driver.
2. Install the printer in CUPS.
3. Unplug/replug the USB cable. This will trigger the firmware download.
4. Test

The printer has been working fine.

So I should delete the printer,
reboot the computer to be sure everything is clean,
find and re-install the foo2xxx driver (I think it's in a folder labeled dpup or cups on that laptop)
then reinstall the printer in CUPS
then unplug/re-plug the USB cable?

I will give that all a try ... as soon as that laptop is not busy ... and report what happens.

Thanks!

No. You should do what pemasu recommended - boot off the Live CD.

That would be a non-persistent test of the printer?

If it works then I will need to do what I listed, above, in my Frugal install?

Thanks futwerk. The blue one is in my next dpup exprimo 5.X.3.4.2.7 version as default background. I included the orange one also. Uploading it now.
Cheers.

I kinda like the clean and simple look of the 5x14, but can always change the background.

How did the numbering go from 5x14 to 5.X.3.4.2.7?

No big deal, other than more typing and more typos, just curious.

I really appreciate all that you do!

Our teen is learning HTML5, CSS, some C++, and Android programming, so maybe he can help with Puppy projects down the road.

Edoc. I use now first the kernel version numbers. 5.X.3.4.2 means kernel 3.4.2 and the last 7 means the version of the build with 3.4.2 kernel. Helps to know which kernel I use in the build.

Makes sense.

I use a system to keep track of writing projects where one is 52 weeks long and is associated with chunks of sequential Bible text, I need to know what texts are associated with what Week's study.

Stay the course!

Once I get past porting my Web sites, blogs, and E-mail accounts to the new host I plan to wipe this laptop and begin fresh so that I may try to get MythTV, the SiliconDust tuner, and the Hauppage adapter working.

Thanks again!

Still unresolved - got distracted porting the domains over before my old host renewal date.

I am thinking of putting the main printer on an ASUS RT-N16 router.

That should arrive by Friday.

If that works OK then the next stop will be to sort out hanging the less-used printer on a Puppy machine.

So maybe over next weekend I will be able to return to the printer project.

Thanks for checking in on it!

BTW: I really need to get our son to take over some of these administrative details. Since he wants to learn to code and otherwise handle computer-related tasks he may as well get his hands dirty dealing with printers and data backups. Wink
