Yes. I remember when Barry used energy to report about that bug and the responses he got.
I havent ever considered that focus remains as bug. But probably many wants it behave so that the focus changes. I, in fact want it behave so that it keeps the focus in what I have selected. I have simple, mechanical brains.

@pemasu
I have just downloaded SCSI 5.004. An would like to join the crowd testing it. It seems to be an exciting OS. But I have not yet installed it, since I read that new version is to be uploaded soon.

Marco07. I think it is tkspider solitaire. I believe the package has been floating here at least since 2007.
Dpup Exprimo 5.X.1 has now been built. It fixes the Rox hanging problem. At last the setup icon works. I dont understand how I have got all the time defective globicons and puppypin files to the build.

PPM works now. I believe the 5004 was just unlucky woof build. I had diskspace quite used in my building partition and just maybe it affected. Now there is a lot free space, fsck done and PPM in new Exprimo just works.
Iguleders repo have sometimes connection problems, even using browser sometimes it takes many minutes to change directory and dpup repo sometimes fails to download due to that slow connection.

I start the upload now, and after night I finish the upload.

Iso size the same 128 Mb. There is new folder for upload. It will be finished in 30 minutes for iso. Devx sfs will be uploaded on the morning.

I just came back to check what to test for with 5004 as I have the day off (it's drizzling) and found a new version was out, downloading main iso now, hopefully not the problems I've had with 4991.

squeeze which

#201 Post by cowboy »

My head hurts, some. As an end user, do I lean toward the original (kinda) Dpup Squeeze 4.9.9* as rolled by Iguleder, or do I pick up the 5.0.0+ as promulgated by Pemasu? This is the kind of thing that drives lame-o end users of Puppy derivatives crazy. Will either be maintained? Will one endure and one disappear? You makes your bets and you takes your chances...

For now, I'm betting on Pemasu's version as the best for end user support for the debian-interested Puppian-about-town. And no, I've no particular reason. Iguleder is a remarkable dev, one of the more intriguing active with Puppy. But I'm going to bet on the branch in this instance, instead of the trunk. Make sense? Or am I forcing a distinction where none is needed?

Report on initial tests for Puppy dpup 5.X.1

Of the three boxes I have available I have only used two at this stage,
I need to :? cleanup the other and find room.

-----------------------------
Box 1: Has been left for now however lspci is added here in case it's of use. It has a video with Intel 915G and 256M.

added: Box 1 install went perfectly ok, no problems of any type to add.

04:00.0 Communication controller: Agere Systems LT WinModem (rev 02)

----------------------------------------------
Box3: This box started and installed ok, but failed on reboot, it got to the line "setting services" and coredumped, many lines starting with
[72.646669] [<varying hexidecimals>] ? varying names,
the first visable is [72.646669] [<c101acec>] ? mm_default_error+0xc9/0xc9

------------------------------------------------------------

ok, where do we go from here?

I shall "do" Box1 later today and insert the result in this reply in the appropriate place above.Done No problems with video. Wonder what the problem is between the two intel chipsets.

I do note that Iguleder's 4991 failed for both boxes 2 and 3 at earlier points so maybe it's just that there is something missing in the kernal package.

It is indeed Tkspider. Tkspider is not in the PPM, probably because it needs the Tk/Tcl runtime environments added to function, same with Freecell. I have built Tk/Tcl as two sfs packages to save having to install them from .pets. If anyone wants Tkspider and Freecell I could make a package for them available along with Tk/Tcl.

Devx sfs uploading now. When I come back from work, I will update the first page, but I provide the links now.

scsijon: Dpup, mine and I Iguleder ( I use Iguleders core packages, same core specs) have serious problems with X. But...I have managed to load appropriate driver with using xorgwizard manual choose. Xorg automatic device handling is the problem. Short xorg.conf does not work. Keyboard layout change and synaptics loading with short xorg.conf fails.

Cowboy. Name change was the request by Iguleder and I wanted that this puplet has distintictive name. Now the name reflects original Iguleders build. Exprimo (latin word) means about squeeze if I havent used translator really wrong.

Anyway. I will follow closely what Iguleder does and update everything which improves dpup. Also this thread provides feedback for Iguleder. We find bugs on this thread and core system benefits from it.

I compiled ATI 11.7 fglrx package and made a pet of it. I will do some stripping first and then I upload it. It suffers for me from that short xorg.conf. No chance so far with changing the keyboard layout to finnish and get synaptics loading. But the graphics driver and CCC works.

Good work, pemasu.

I think it could be nice for users to have your puplet as the "frontend" for my work, while I focus on more low-level stuff, like the base package selection, Puppizard and the kernel.

By the way - there's a new and improved Puppizard. It has repositories support - it downloads all build scripts through the ncurses interface, so you always get the latest and greatest. Pretty neat.

I'm also compiling 2.6.39.4 at the moment, with some performance tweaks.

Thank you of feedback. I think that I will create preliminary list to the first page of fixed things and how I have done them. So it is easy to have reference from that central location. I put the fixed to the end of first post. And also I update the bugs still remaining, like this Xorg automatic handling problem.

Just uploaded the latest Puppizard, it's here.

Now it should make all packages Puppy-style - it removes extra icons and puts Puppy-style menu entries. Should be good.

Also, 2.6.39.4 is ready, gonna upload it to here, as always. It's patched with BFS and has some other performance tweaks. Many staging drivers are included and Nouveau is excluded it doesn't get along with old hardware.

This time there's a sources SFS and a kernel headers package, both include Aufs stuff, so packages like aufs2-util can be built easily.
