I cannot find /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf

Does Puppy have a unique location or is one not normally used?

Can I do this in Grub or do I need to create a /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf or ???

Does this look right?

Just turn off autosuspend with "-1"?

Code: Select all

$
modprobe usbcore autosuspend=-1
[quote] usbcore.autosuspend=
[USB] The autosuspend time delay (in seconds) used
for newly-detected USB devices (default 2). This
is the time required before an idle device will be
autosuspended. Devices for which the delay is set
to a negative value won't be autosuspended at all.

You have to read my previous post....carefully... where I wrote what file you need to create. Of course the file name is optional. The main message is...you dont find a file what you are going to create. Simple.
Yes...you can give it as boot time parameter in kernel row: usbcore.autosuspend=-1

That refers when usbcore has been compiled as module. As posted earlier...kernel 2.6.39.4 by Iguleder has that option as this:
CONFIG_USB=y
CONFIG_USB_SUSPEND=y
CONFIG_USB_XHCI_HCD=y
CONFIG_USB_EHCI_HCD=y
CONFIG_USB_OHCI_HCD=y
CONFIG_USB_UHCI_HCD=y

it means that the usb core modules (also new usb3) has been compiled in not as modules and yes...the autosuspend has been enabled.

So the debian advice is adverse as exprimo has.

The reason of this usb compiling as static...not as modules...is due to fact that usb boot time recognition is more sure that way. Me and 01micko faced that problem with our kernel experiments and Barry Kauler suggested this. And that way we have configured our kernels now...usb compiled in ...as static...not as modules.

Nowadays init script in Puppies has been updated according these over 2.6.37 kernel features...and usb compiled statically probably is not needed anymore...at least not all core usb modules...but i would not like to experiment any more.

I still think that testing with working autosuspend disabling kernel parameter is area which needs investigation.

Stu90 and all the others. Everybody do use multimedia files and formats. Please...give a shot and feedback to my compiled mplayer2.

I enabled what I knew...which is not much. I had development library files for mp3, ogg, m4a, aac, xvid, mp4, x264, yasm.... and it has ffmpeg inbuild statically. The mplayer compiler scripts uses autotools so they check what development files they find and use them automatically.

So more....multimedia devel libs I install...the more support mplayer2 has. The binary is still mplayer and it installs to the /usr/bin/mplayer

Try this....the pet installs over the existing one...and gnome-mplayer automatically uses the new one.

The tip....browse to your test files...right click the file and select defaultmediaplayer....it launches gnome-mplayer.

If people could test audio and video...so I would know what I have forgotten to add.

Hi Pemasu,
Nice work with mplayer2 compile - stream dump / recording now works and all test files in Playdayz Media Test directory work.

Needed to install missing lib libenca0_1.13-3 for this latest version - Installed straight from the Debain repo in PPM.

cheers.

Thanks Stu90. I did try to throw in all media formats I knew. I really dont know what was the missing piece for streaming capture. But...The support for formats should be large. I also enabled libass, substation subtitles support, it is nowadays needed dependency. It compiles ok without it, but I would like to test SSA subtitles function.

My compile grows mplayer2 size remarkably....but to have as multifuncion mplayer2 as you can...is not bad idea.

By the way. I will update the Mplayer2 with that missing library. I didnt recognize that, because I had in compiling environment all the needed stuff included.

First time I have got ASS (Advanced Substation Alpha) subtitle support to work. Previously I have used in Gnome-Mplayer the mplayer command: -subpos 100 -subfont-text-scale 3 -subfont-outline 8 -unicode

Now ticking ASS in gnome-mplayer in subtitle section and the subtitles scales and get position as they should.

new bacon recorder

#1768 Post by don570 »

I've spent a lot of time improving bacon recorder to version 2.5
Would you include it in future distributions.

I made a small error in the list of partitions in quick launch,
so I put together a new version.

Lobster has been promoting Parm

http://puppylinux.org/wikka/PARM

Apparently there IS a functioning Russian Puppy forked to Arm architecture, and Barry is working on the Raspberry version....

Iguleder has a 'Puppy'/linux build system that is forkable to other architectures also

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=75753

That's about as close as it gets, atm......AFAIK

PARM looks awesome! Neat conceptual artwork.

They say they will offer a case down the road but they don't have any accessories listed yet.

The "B" model looks the most versatile.

Displays may be composite or HDMI (VGA through an outboard adapter).

Boot is from SD card and operation from a USB stick.

Keyboard, mouse, wifi, etc. all from the two USB ports (or via an outboard hub connected to them).

Exciting possibilities!

Does spell checking work for Exprimo's version of Geany?
It's a plugin.

I'm not at my home computer and I saw this thread
and the guy uses spell checking in Geany. I made various
spell checking packages for abispell so Geany could
be used like a work processor.
