Squeeze 5X9 & apt-get? |
|
On another list someone mentioned:
> apt-get moo ... as well as other "easter eggs" in linux.
I tried apt-get and discovered that it was not implemented by default.
Then I found a reference to apt-get being possible but a bit challenging, for some reason (probably beyond my code-challenged understanding), to implement in Squeeze.
Has anyone created a PET or SFS for apt-get for Squeeze 5X9, please?

I checked some more on the video, and found that it is available on youtube... but, you notice at the end of the page, this message: "Music video by Matthew West performing The Heart of Christmas (Official Music Video). (P) (C) 2011 Sparrow Records. All rights reserved. Unauthorized reproduction is a violation of applicable laws. Manufactured by EMI Christian Music Group".
Looks to me as though they are being very specific about NOT copying or using this without authorization... as I suggested earlier, you could email Matthew West, or Sparrow Records, and ask for permission to use it at your church group.

Thanks!
I will check that out for future reference.
We made do with only public-domain Christmas music for the event.
Still would like to find a way - in Puppy - to convert music sold for iTunes to a non-proprietary format for personal use - on a non-Apple piece of hardware

So far as your iTunes question... hmm... if all you want to do is listen to / watch some iTunes video, I dont know what their policy is... if its a membership deal or what. If, as was the case with the Matthew West video, it is /also/ a video on YouTube, your problems are over. Get the addon for your browser from Mozilla addons page.
The one everybody uses is "Download helper"... 2nd most popular addon they have, with millions of installs, and it does work. Get that addon_ go to iTunes or whatever, and download the video. Again, I dont think there is a limit on watching videos at home_ it is public uses which concern them.
Once you download the video, use either mplayer or gnome-mplayer from the menu to play the video... one or both of those will be included with your copy of dpup-squeeze.
You shouldnt worry about any proprietary format unless you purchase a video and see some different extension... just download it and play it... the application / addon I mentioned - "Download Helper" - lets you choose what format to download in... so you will get either an FLV or an MPEG file in whatever directory the download goes to.
Hope this helps. Let us know.

OK, will do some more research.
It may be that I received "bad intel" on the iTunes stuff.
A teen told me that music sold via iTunes is in a proprietary format and may only be played on an Apple device- perhaps he was wrong.
As for the Christian Christmas music - it was for young children - so I was looking for "traditional" Christmas hymns performed by more-modern artists with a little more energy for the current generation.
They needed the words as well as the tunes as some of them do not know the traditional hymns.
It all worked out fine.
Thanks!

Something I've been wondering. So I just asked google. Apparently, in the past, iTunes came in 5 or 6 formats, including a protected format. http://forums.techarena.in/tips-tweaks/1182683.htm
But now iTunes Plus delivers in a non-protected AAC format, and I know that mplayer can play AAC. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1711

ooo... pemasu... I just remembered something you said in chatroom...
you had remembered troubles I had with 5x9, and told me "version
5x10 went more towards 5x8 again"... or similar to that.
Now I looked at your repository, and cannot find a 5x10... there is
5x10.2 still, but that has the startup problem (cant enter savefile number...
just freezes not allowing a number entry, while cursor flashes waiting for
that input).
Did you ever upload 5x10 ? If so, I cant find it.
no matter if the wild huskies chewed up your only copy(!)...
5x8 still going good for me.

main version 5.x.10 with 2.6.39.4 kernel is still the one in queue. I meant my experimental 5.X.10.3 with 3.1 kernel. I have already tested that one with my recompiled kernel and I have downloaded my first woof2 folder with subfolders. So....I will first build 5.x.10.3 with 3.1 kernel. Then I will switch with experience I have got to the main version and that will be 5.x.10 with 2.6.39.4 kernel.
But....as I have told before....I have tough sesssion at work. I am at home late and I just dont have time and energy to do much. I have also a little lend my hand to the Saluki community project. Then there is Christmas and that I will dedicate to the nearest people. So....I will continue with projects at January. Nothing has changed. I play with different puplets now more than do things myself.

Firefox 8 is not ready for prime time |
|
Hi all,
As noted above, Firefox 8 crashes. It also doesn't allow the use of some of the Addons I like. Unfortunately, when firefox 7 (or earlier) is installed it automatically upgrades to 8 if your not quick. After downloading the pet for 7 or downloading the tar.gz and unpacking it, I taken to disconnecting the internet before I start 7 and immediately going into its settings and unchecking "update firefox."

I have fixed the Firefox problem in my development version. Now I am testing Firefox 9.0.1. It seems to fix the pixmap warning at last in xerrs.log. They promised it, but I wasnt sure, if it will do it.
Now...in Firefox 9.0.1 xerrs.log does not show the previous warnings. Anyway....Firefox 8 freezing problem is easily fixed. But I can provide a pet which fixes it, if it is wanted.

Amateur Radio App Subject description: Tk/Tcl GUI |
|
Does this appear to be likely to work with 5X9?
It is a digital slow-scan app that allows for 2-way image communication via radio (no Internet required).
My interest is for disaster/emergency comms where Internet is down or too-weak and cell phones are also not functioning effectively.
He has released it in 32 and 64 bit versions.

| Quote: | L.F. Audio Output to drive mike input of trx
Uses HB9TLK's HAM DRM standard modes A, B and E (compatible with WINDRM etc.)
Uses ALSA soundsystem that is available in most Linux distributions
Sends all file types
Shows tx progress with current transmitted segment number and total number of segments
Graphical User Interface can easily be adapted to one's own taste (Tk/Tcl)
Includes standalone console application for txing from commandline
Uses the well know Dream DRM software modified for ham use
GUI written in Tk/Tcl |

Belkin Wireless Mouse? Subject description: Works but ... |
|
CHRISTmas brought a couple of wireless mice to the house. Belkin FSL075.
They are recognized by 5X9 but have to be manually-activated at boot-up (press the little button on the bottom of the mouse and then the button on the USB dongle).
Also, they time-out when not in use, so the manual-activation must be repeated ...not making me friends here.
WDYT?
