lost sdbX devices on suspend. In 5.X.8
I closed my laptop and it went in suspend mode as it should.
When opening again, I got the desktop, but all my USB devices sdbX had become sdcX.
Kinda annoying as some scripts depend on sdbX.
I had this before in earlier releases, but didn't report it yet.

Beem. Nice to hear of you for long time
I checked the sleep.sh (Jemimah) and suspend.sh (Shinobar) scripts for suspend in ram.
Shinobars script has check if usb drives are mounted and the script is not performed until you unmount them.
I am not sure if just unmounting them would be better idea with suspend script.
Anyway....right now I just implemented the Shinobars work to the /etc/acpi/sleep.sh script. Somenone could continue and implement unmount for them if wanted.
Install the pet and test. After that suspend should not work until you unmount usb drives.
Lid.sh just calls sleep.sh so suspend by closing the lid should not suspend until you unmount usb drives.

Arghhh! That was it.Béèm wrote:Did you set correctly set your time zone?edoc wrote:I am being told that E-mails are arriving with the wrong time-stamp and they are all arriving here that way as well.
The desktop clock is OK.
Where might Seamonkey be getting a time-stamp that is 12 hours off, please?
Why is setting the Time Zone not included in the PupSetClock menu?
There is no intuitive/obvious way to know that the Time Zone is wrong when the desktop clock is showing the correct time.

It is fixed because the helpful and informed folks here on the Forum flagged this for me!
I greatly appreciate that but wonder about all of those who don't follow this thread ... so the feature enhancement sounds like a user-friendly one.
Thanks!

I noticed that the audio mixer icon that mhwaveedit
uses is not functioning. I click on it and nothing
happens.
To compile mhwaveedit there is an option to use
a specfic audio mixer program. I like to use Retrovol
as the audio mixer.
I compiled a version here...

bug in quick launch ??
I've installed it quite a few times with no problems.soundNICK wrote: Don570 - just tried this... it may be the installed version must be removed
first for this to work ? ...the pet file would not install on Exprimo for me ?
The only possible problem is the pinstall script which
is quite complex because I try to set the launch key combination.
...but i'll try again tonite.

Hi edoc, edoc wrote:Why is setting the Time Zone not included in the PupSetClock menu?
PupClockset is primarily for setting the current time, changing the clock format, and modifying font attributes of the digital display. I think the timezone option fits comfortably in the 'Country Settings' category as proposed by Barry, Shinobar and others. However, I'll certainly keep your suggestion in mind for future releases of PupClockset.
If you want greater control of time-related variables, please go to the Settings tab of PupControl. The following (related) options are grouped together for easy access:
Country - Set locale (date/font/money) and timezone
Hardware Clock - Set HW clock to localtime or UTC
Time | Date - Set the local time and date
Time Format - Set format of digital-tray clock
Time Update - Sync/Update clock with time servers
Thanks!
I know that there are lots of options ... but the question is not what we can do, nor what we have done, but what is the most-intuitive for the newbie so they don't decide that the OS is buggy and move on.
Wrong time-stamps on E-mails can be a really big deal for some users.
Just one perspective ...
I appreciate everything y'all do and am not shy about asking for help!

First test build of Exprimo 5.X.9 now under fingers. I have used Iguleders packages for Guy Dog 5.0.1. The base though is the same I have used. Had some problems with Squeeze package downloading, I had to redownload three times before all downloaded. I hope the base is sane. Still I need to figure out what Iguleder really did for fonts.
Anyway....It uses the latest woof. Gtkam is history. Pupcamera is the app for those who uses camera straight with usb link to download pics from camera.
Iguleder also has solved how to implement addons-extensions to the Firefox base without creating profile to the /root folder. I have used his method and I have now Fireftp and Flashblock added.
Rox-Filer uses now patched binary so that in column view you can drag and drop columns to the different order.
Emelfm2 is out for next build. Those who want it, can download Iguleders latest from Exprimo repo.
Next Iguleders innovation is root wrapper for those apps which has been compiled not to work in root environment. Google-chrome and VLC are one of those. Iguleders wrapper works fine. I have tested VLC-1.2-git and it works with wrapper fine. Movie-subtitles-all fine. I will upload sfs of that with wrapper included.
I dont have fancy updates. Previous bug fixes added along the thread. Don570 posted needs for fixes. Anyway...this build will be my OS and I play with it awhile and create VLC-1.2 sfs for those who want to play with it.

Vlc-1.2.sfs now created using Iguleders great root wrapper. Makes easy to create sfs apps of portable applications which previously did not run due to root restrictions.

pemasu - quick note, forgot to let you know - I removed the Backports repository from the specs, since the X drivers are broken. The nv driver doesn't work and both kbd and mouse are missing.
I'm working on more build scripts at the moment - I'm targeting the "common" repository. It has many packages that were built on Puppy 2.x-4.x and no longer compile with today's GCC, so there's nothing I can do about those.
The main reason I'm doing this is the ability to port dpup to other architectures (*cough* x86_64 *cough*) by making it more source-based

I have a HP LaserJet P1006 working fine on one computer with Exprimo 5X8.
The CUPS setting is checked to "Share Printer" on the host computer.
On another computer next to it, also with Exprimo 5X8, I have "Show printers shared by other systems: checked.
They are both on the same wireless Netgear router.
This second computer does not see the P1006.
Is there another not-obvious-to-me step that one has to take to make this work, please?
Thanks!

new version of Quick Launch 1.6
I've made a new version of Quick Launch
that will work on all Puppies.
It creates its app list from the .desktop files
so it can be a universal program.
It takes about 3 seconds when it is
first launched to form the app list,
but it's fast during next launches.

click on rtf file
When the user clicks on an rtf file
it would be nice if it was opened up
automatically with FBReader.
..same with an epub book.

I've noticed that Barry Kauler is using
a new program for wallpaper setting called 'pwallpaper'
I wonder why he switched??

I can't get the short avi file in puppy-references to play,
but other .avi fiiles do play fine. Rather strange??

If I remember correctly the pinstall script does two things.
First it removes the hidden folder in /root
then it tries (in my clumsy way) to add the
key stroke combination Ctl-shift-L to the
various window managers and to xbindkeys.
I did that hoping it would help the average user
like me who doesn't understand such things.

Don570. It is not big deal. I have already implemented to the xbindkeysrc your quick_launch. I just thought if you want to study more of woof environment checking. All pinstall.sh scripts are executed from the pets during woof build. They just need to be executed inside rootfs-complete folder where the whole distro resides until it is squashed and packged into the iso.
About your suggestions. I will add rtf mime for fbreader.
Pwallpaper. I havent tested it. I use 01mickos Wallpaper.
But the background_reshape script has been modified in this latest woof. It cuts now wallpaper jpg for widescreen. My Exprimo wallpaper is ruined in my laptop after that. Logo is not distorted but the text is missing. I am not going to include that script yet. I have restored older script.

Lid.sh just calls sleep.sh so suspend by closing the lid should not suspend until you unmount usb drives.
The pet works as advertised. The problem is, that the first partition is party of my application environment and thus once applications launched unmount doesn't work.
I acknowledge that it might not be simple, but in my opinion a suspend (or hibernate) operation should restore the system as it was before.
I can't remember if I did such an operation with Fluppy. Have to check it.
