Burning a cd right now.

There are still a lot of those old boxes being used around the world. No need in getting rid of something that still works. :)

And the answer is yes, 5003 is running live pfix=ram on a 256 mb ram box with the cd unmounted and ejected.

I did a manual frugal install of 003.I installed the devx + kernel
source + ati-driver-installer-11-7-x86.x86_64.run.

Tue 2 Aug 2011 Operating System: Puppy Squeeze-5.0.0.3 Linux 2.6.39
5.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M880G [Mobility
Radeon HD 4200]
oem: ATI ATOMBIOS product: RS880M 01.00

X Server: Xorg Driver: (II) glx: vendor=FireGL - ATI Technologies Inc.
(II) Module fglrx: vendor=FireGL - ATI Technologies Inc. (II) Module

dimensions: 1024x600 pixels (270x158 millimeters)

Manual frugal installation of 5.0.0.3 on an ext4 partition. It's working great and I've installed the following applications which all appear to be working fine:

Bibletime_lucid-2.7.2a.sfs
devx_squeeze_5.0.0.3.sfs
jre-1.6u25-i586.sfs
kernel_src-2.6.39-3-patched-lupe28.sfs
LibreOffice-3.4.1_en-US-fixed.sfs
Firefox-6.0 beta Firefox web browser
thunderbird-5.0 Thunderbird Email Client
wine-1.3.25-i486_v2 Wine Windows Program Loader
Acrobat_Reader-9.3.3-Lucid Adobe Acrobat Reader PDF application
BibleAnalysis-4.1.0 Bible study
eSword-9 e-Sword
theWord-3.2.1 theWord
LHP_sys_info-0.5 Lighthouse System Information & Video Report
binutils_2.20.1-16 The GNU assembler, linker and binary utilities
cpp-4.1_4.1.2-29 The GNU C preprocessor
gcc-4.1-base_4.1.2-29 The GNU Compiler Collection (base package)
gcc-4.1_4.1.2-29 The GNU C compiler

Unfortunately, still getting an error message re finding 'ldconfig' when trying to install NVIDIA-Linux-x86-280.13.run. I placed a link to ldconfig in /usr/bin, got error re finding 'ld' which was corrected by installing binutils. Next error re finding 'cc'. Installed gcc but that didn't correct the message so I gave up chasing it.

In any event, it looks fast and solid and your E17 implementation works well. I've mainly just changed some icons and added launchers. Iguleder will have many bugs solved thanks to your efforts.

Cheers,
Jim

Guys, a small request - core bugs that are in the base (that have nothing to do with applications, things like malfunctioning X, CUPS, E17, bugs, etc') - report them in the Puppy Squeeze thread, so we can hunt them down more easily.

It's hard for me and pemasu to follow two threads in parallel

Thank you!

Dave S. I forgot to change /etc/cups/cupsd.conf or was it cups.conf.
Copy one from any Lucid Puppy and it works. I need to add that configuration file to the zdpup_utilities pet. I have done that fix manually so far and now I forgot to add it.

Well. I will reupload bug fixed version 5003 today later.
Good pick but easily solved. I will fix that obsolete Pinboard icons same time.

Iguleder. I will post my changes to the core functions in your thread when I get feedback that they have fixed the problems.

Now...I need feedback if the PUI (Puppy Universal Installer) works correctly. Does it recognize ntfs, ext2, ext3 and ext4 ok. And can you do Puppy installation to ext4, for example in the usb stick. That is the most tricky part.

Dave S. My hunch was correct. Separate z...sfs is not good thing. It might speed boot time and lessens the RAM usage but...not all network kernel module drivers and firmware will be loaded automatically. I have suspected it before but now I know.
Dave S. If you run dmesg right after boot, can you check is there firmware loading for your wireless. I would like to record that problem for further knowledge.
From this experience, I wont release for generic usage separated sfs anymore.
Something to think about in Spup also.

pui recognized ext4 partitions on usb and hdd but unable to recognize squeez sfs file for install. odd symlink errors on desktop. see pic. burn 5003 to dvd then ran pui for usb frugal install ext4, created savefile then reboot.

Faithful Frisbee was unable to complete the wifi connection in the presence of acquired network. see attached. upon rebooting did not recognize previously created savefile and prompted me to create another at which point gave up.

Jim3630. Obsolete icon remnants have been explained when I made 5003 announcement. I am reluctant to repeat my posts.

PUI seems to need still more investigation. I will test it also.

Normally I dont use it at all. But if it is in Puplet, it should also work.

Anyway, I will reupload 5003 without those icon remnants and with working cups.conf
And if there is some other bug fix to attain, I will include it also. But no version change if there does not come any real changes.

Radky. I noticed that also. Fotoxx seems to demand that before you have synchronized at least one folder.
But...synchronizing does not work before you have added libimage-exiftool-perl_8.15-1_all.deb and that is 2.2 Mb package. Really big I think.

Fotoxx dependency that size needs rethinking.

Fotoxx has been compiled by Iguleder.

ntfs partition mounts fine.

Used gparted to format an USB flash drive to ext4, then used PUI to install 5.0.0.3 to it. It appeared to install OK, and the necessary files are there, however, when I plugged it in to a machine that can boot from the USB drive, it reports "no operating system".

A weird result though is when I plugged the USB drive into my main system which is running 5.0.0.3, pmount sees the drive fine, so I ran gparted to check to see if the boot flag was set and gparted does not see the USB drive. I'll go to another OS, reformat it again, then reinstall again with 5.0.0.3 PUI and report back. There appears to be a problem with gparted and ext4 although it does recognize my partitions properly and pmount sees the USB drive as ext4.

Jim1911. Yep. I think I will compile static gparted next and update it to 0.9. Then I am ready to continue the PUI problem resolving.

Gparted does not appear to be a problem. I tried the USB with a couple of other pups and gparted reported it properly and discovered that the "no device present" report was not referring to the USB drive that I was using. I then used Ubuntu's gparted which is also version 0.7.0 to reformat to ext4 again making sure that boot flag was set. Next I booted back into 5.0.0.3 and used the PUI to install to the USB flash drive. Same results as before. PUI still has a serious problem creating a bootable installation.

Jim1911. Ok. It goes then back to distype binary, syslinux, extlinux.
i think i will try next if my working lucid binaries work in dpup. Then I try to chase working ones from debian repositories. I know that PUI is really sensitive of those above apps. I think it is too sensitive.
