Linux sucks

#1 Post by ragou »

That's all I can say.
My windows crashed and I needed to reinstall it. I have puppy on my disk in order to rescue. And I see that this is not a good OS.
Sorry to say that. I see a desire, wanting, passion, but this OS just doesn't work well.
One day with puppy made me crazy, and the best thing, that it works in memory loose, because my 2700 MHz dual core processor, 4 GB ram, and 1GB NVidia video card hardly deal with tasks. This OS is just a joke.

Maybe try Hirens for repairing Windows:

http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs

Why so much animosity towards puppy? Maybe if you gave a detailed description of your problems and what puppy version you are using someone could help you with your puppy problems.

And why does everyone here have such a thing for Hiren's? Puppy is perfectly capable of fixing just about anything that goes wrong in Windows with the proper tools and know-how.

:D Hello,
You got out of a "big SUV", and got in a "Sports Car"...
Of course it feels different, runs different, Operates different...
Fix your windows, enjoy the bloat and viruses...
But dont "kick the Puppy" man...
Been running it and nothing else for four years...

It can, when learned, (just like `doze BTW) be an effective, fast, safe O.S.

Learn to use things that cost big bucks, or learn to do it for free..
But LEARN before you insult that which you do not know...
Close the Windows, and open your eyes, to a whole new world

"Windows Crashed" - "Linux [Puppy] Sucks". Seems a little backwards to me!

I speak from some experience. Puppy ROCKS! 8)

About Hirens Boot CD and USB. I have also find it handy. Combining Puppy tools, Hirens boot media and Clonezilla I have managed to salvage data from broken laptop hdd. And even able to clone windows restore partition with installable windows vista. Straight file copies using Puppy was impossible due to broken sectors.

But using HDD regenerator from Hirens and then Puppy to copy files was succesful. I could have used Hirens miniXP or other tools for that also. Clonezilla was the only clone tool which managed to clone that restore partition. All the other Linux and Windows tools failed due to those broken sectors. Even though that partition was intact.
And I tested about 10 different applications. It was quite profound test.

So...Hiren Boot CD has most needed fixing tools already, Puppy is handy compined with Hiren and Clonezilla seems to be most reliable for cloning in difficult situations.
I have now rescue usb stick with several Puppies and Hiren. It is fine tool.

I also used bitdefender rescue cd for virus and trojans checking for those copied 6000 wma and mp3 files and I removed about 150 contaminations with it. It is handy also. Bootable virus checking linux OS with automatic net connection and virus database downloading. Best bootable virus fixing media I have used. Yes I know that several Puppies come with Xf-prot. I use it also but atm I used Puppy which didnt have it preinstalled.

rokytnji bad dog!
. . . you made me LOL

It would be totally crazy if someone comes here. Insults us and every other penguin and we offer to help rather than shoot said troll in flames.

Some shoot the crazed, some are kind to them.
Diversity.

If you are more familiar with a Job Lot (aka Mac) then you prefer to
work in a particular way. Penguins tend to be more computer literate,
more flexible and have better ray guns.

My advice is also learn to use tools that do work. Prefer Windows?
Good. Learn to fix Windows when it ceases to suck or blow . . .
Puppy, BSOD (or is that BSD), Ipaid, Linux and Whinedows
all work. Some are better for your requirements than others.
For example BootMed is designed to fix Windows booting problems:
http://www.bootmed.com/WhatCanBootMedDo.html

Now possibly ragou, you are still around awaiting further advice. Here it is:

This kind insulting behavior reminds me of Woody Allens movie.
He went to the Harlem backstreets helmet in his head. There were several big black mens playing basket ball or street ball, whatever.
Woody went amongst them, took firm stance and yelled: "Niggers"
Then he run really fast with all those big black mens running and yelling after him amd wanting to rip him in pieces.

I think the analogy is quite resembling.

ragou has 7 posts I looked at the subject line of the other 6 posts.

I wild guess what is going on but I know too little.

Let me just say two words

expectations practice
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

pemasu Thanks for your explanation of why you use Hirens, I've just personally never seen a need for it or Clonezilla (Clonezilla is just a set of programs I already use in puppy basically) and i have been repairing Windows computers for others for about 10 years now, I know that may not seem like a lot for you or most of the others here but im a youngin compared to most others here too.

I can't help wondering if ragou ever got his Windows reinstalled. He doesn't seem to have much patience.

I haven't needed to recover or reinstall anything since I threw away my last (broken) hard disk drive and started using Puppy Linux from a multisession DVD instead. Settings and programs are saved to the DVD; anything not Puppy related is saved to a flash memory that I mount when I need it.

Actually; that was just a tongue in cheek response to the posters
rant.

Cthisbear is the chief proponent of using Hirens.

I'm more concerned about others recommending anything but Puppys'
installer (lin-n-win for example) and the paranoia about using
good old grub legacy when installing Puppy or dual booting.

P.S.
Hirens is a beautiful thing and lots of fun to play with.

Must be the Cossack/Biker in me I guess. No patience for whiners. I would have responded differently if OP had detailed steps on what was tried and failed and had pertinent questions posted instead .

Buddhists are patient, kind people. As are most members here.
Woody went amongst them, took firm stance and yelled: "Niggers"
Was my take on this thread. I opted for humor, instead of name calling.
I should not post though after a night of cruising and bar hopping on this forum (which I did).

I have fixed Windows and Linux Boxes with Puppy Linux, Parted Magic Cds and USBs running live. Self Taught also. Never fixed anything yet (computers,motorcycles,cars,A/C,Houses, electrical, etc....) though by throwing wrenches, calling names, cursing, kicking, biting, scratching yet though. Whining has not worked either. Patience and thinking logically around a problem seems to work best for me. OP should try it sometime. Might work for them also.

But yeah. I'm a
bad dog

All I hate is any kind of discrimination and naggers and Texans.

OK - partly kidding - many with acute discrimination, including some Texans, choose Puppy.

" Cthisbear is the chief proponent of using Hirens. "

Heard my name mentioned....

""""""

Version 14,0 of Hiren's is now also running >>Parted Magic 6.1

Linux based rescue environment with lots of applications to manage partitions, backup and recovery such as GParted, Parted, Partition Image, TestDisk, Partimage, Truecrypt, Clonezilla, G4L, Firefox, ClamAV, GSmartControl, SimpleBurn, dd, ddrescue, with extensive collection of file system tools are also included, supports the following: btrfs, ext2, ext3, ext4, fat16, fat32, hfs, hfs+, jfs, linux-swap, ntfs, reiserfs, reiser4, and xfs.

http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

To me there was a lot of Puppy type things in it.

////////

Hiren's is very fast ...Mini Windows...

compared to Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows.

That's why Falcon's Boot cd is based on it...plus has ERD.

Even Ccleaner in the Falcon can run as

User
Administrator
Other Users

for startups and cleaning....different to Hiren's....handy.

They are both smart people....why should I not use their talents?

Quite honestly >> for fixing comps...they are must haves.

No disputing Puppy is good.
Occasionally the above won't delete a file where Puppy will.

But I also have to say Hiren's has great Wireless support as well.
Teamviewer...so many good apps.

Chris.
