Basic OpenOffice or LibreOffice

#1 Post by leae89 »

(in english)
I'd like to see Open OR Libre office Writer, Calc and Impress, in a new Puppy release. Just them 3.
Do you agree?

(español)
Me gustaría ver, en una nueva entrega de PuppyLinux, el Writer, Calc y el Impress de Open/Libre office. Sólo esos 3.
¿Les parece?

libreoffice seems to still be supported and open source whereas open office went another direction as far as I know from reading.
Of course it does increase the size of an ISO.

Both OOo and LibreOffice (which is a community fork of OOo) add considerable size to Puppy. LibreOffice will I believe become more streamlined with less bloat than OOo. However, I will stay fairly large.

There are version of puppy with AbiWord etc removed ready for OOo/LibreOffice to be installed. They are called NOP puppy (Nearly Office Puppy). see...

I thank you all for your answers.

If there are Abiword and Gnumeric, where is an OOo Impress similar?

Impress is the presentation package in OpenOffice /LibreOffice, ie the equivalent of Powerpoint.

I don't believe there is an equivalent in Gnome Office (Abiword & Gnumeric) for presentations.

You could try Softmaker Office 2008 which is free and Barry has recently made a pet for it.

No there isnt. It is one of those projects which Barry has rised as funded project if someone creates nice presentation app for Puppy. See his blog about those projects. Maybe someone-ones will make it happen. Lets see.

Hi Pemasu,
With all respect to you I think your comment
No there isnt.
needs clarifying.

I assume you meant that there is no Gnu-Office presentation app rather than that there isn't a pet made by Barry of Softmaker Office.

For the OPs info see http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02435 for further info on Barry's Softmaker.

There is an alternative called OOoLight which may also be of interest. You can download a pet and an sfs version at http://wiki.ooolight.org/index.php/Main_Page. I haven't tested it yet in Linux but on a Windows machine it looked good.

N.B. there are some much more lightweight alternatives for creating presentations, if you don't need any sort of compatibility with Powerpoint/Impress.
The simplest might be abiword's presentation mode. Some others utilise full screen image viewers, or are browser based (e.g. s5)
