Slacko 312.37 110807
Problem Creating SaveFile and restarting x
I unpacked iso & copied files to /stest folder. Booted into Slacko, obtaining correct (1600x900) desktop. Then tried to change the timezone to US Eastern which required that I restart X. Receive note a Dark GREY Screen. Neither Ctl-Alt-Backspace nor pressing power button did anything. Had to pull the plug. Restarted computer having decided to create a SaveFile before changing timezone. Rebooted into Slacko, but as invitation of setup wireless showed up when I OK'd default XOrg settings, took it, Simple Network Setup worked and Seamonkey Browser took me to the Web. Then selected Shutdown>Reboot: Dark Grey Screen again: Power Button still dimly lite & my monitor did not read "No Signal" as it would if it was not receiving any. Again had to pull the plug. Never had the chance to create a SaveFile. I'll try installing Shutdown pet and see what happens.
My computer's Specs:
Processor: 4x AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor
Memory: 3375MB (268MB used)
Resolution to: 1600x900 pixels
VGA compatible controller: ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics
Network controller: RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI
Edit: Rebooted into Slacko, installed Shutdown pet (don't recall from which thread I downloaed it for future use). Neither desktop icon nor menu entry appeared. So I'm stumped. It's unusual that I'd get a proper desktop file indicating XOrg was working, but then not be able to go from there. Maybe I'll first try installing ATI driver before shutting down?
Suggestions are welcome.

In all of these debian based pups I've tried squeezed 4.99, attack pup, light house, and maybe spup 121 the code is broken as far as some, certainly broadcoms, wifi drivers are concerned. Or can look at it as these wifi drivers are not supported or they are on the "brown" list.
Had one of pemasu's excellent wl drivers for squeezed 4.99 and just could not connect. o1micko it was just like my experience with your driver. So, after many hours reading and self education and noticing how this problem repeats with certain pups the problem became clear.
When these broadcom drivers as well as others will work in above pups with only a change in the script then why not just include that script in the form of Frisbee.

Thanks Mick, Thanks guysFantastic news! it appears Barry has fixed USB booting Very Happy . That may or may not fix your bug Lobster but we'll get that sorted sooner or later.
Woof power from Barry
I wanted to try Slacko (aka Spup aka Spot aka Puppy 5.3) on my Eeepc . . .
Igu's efforts on CUPS will be most welcome, I wonder if Igu will revive his efforts on a KDE SFS so we can have Calligra . . .
http://www.calligra-suite.org/
Later on I hope Ttuuxxx will also bring his compiling skills to Slacko
Great to have testers and compilers at this early stage
Puppy Linux
Ahead of the pack
Ok, it seems there is something broken with PUI... if you use the BootFlash method then you can install to USB.
taca0, ffplay is broken too . It is segfaulting so I need to recompile ffmpeg, and mplayer and.....

ROX-focus bug
I see that the old Rox right-click menu problem appears again, not only here but in all puppies based on the latest woof.01micko wrote:... so I need to recompile ffmpeg, and mplayer and.....
Anyway, this is the first Slackpup version I could even run in my ancient Toshiba Tecra 8000 machine, (PII 400 MHz 256 MB RAM).
Its performance is very attractive.
Congrats and thanks, 01micko

From Barry's blog
Wrong ROX Filer PET
Oh, recent Woofs have been building puppies with an old version of ROX Filer, one that has the right-click focus bug.
This came about because I removed the 'pet_packages-quirky' repository, which was in the Woof search path. Instead, the Woof scripts have fallen right back to 'pet_packages-4' to find a ROX Filer PET package.
Ok, I have put the correct ROX Filer PET into the 'common' repo. This was compiled in Wary and should work in all puppies.
Download (374KB):
http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/pet_pa ... atched.pet
The latest database file for the 'common' repo can also be downloaded, for use in Woof (39KB):

I think it's only in case the target is a ntfs.Brown Mouse wrote:I'm seeing some odd behavior when copying files from Slacko to any usb storage device, irrelevant of the size of them.
I get a 'Done with errors' message in red text.
This has been reported before, so apparently no solution yet.

Slacko !
Congratulations 01micko!
This Spup is really fast... installed without problems... printer & scanner setup was easy... Sound wasn't there on initial boot, 2nd boot it was there and only package from PPM I installed was xscreensaver with the dep's , don't know if any of those helped with sound ? I kinda doubt it! (BTW haven't been able to get the screensaver to work yet??)
SeaMonkey... haven't liked it much in the past because of its limitations however, this new one is AOK! They have really come a long ways in a short time. I tried to install Iron-12 but... same old problem as with all Spup's... it just doesn't want to work! I sure wish you could find and get that little quirk fixed!
I commend you on your PPM 'Cloud App!' most are afraid to touch cloud stuff but a lot of it is really nice!

Lobster, don't worry - I want to download the latest Slacko tomorrow and build a big pile of packages, mostly fonts, applications and E17
My new kernel build script is ready, doing a 2.6.32.43 build right now. Very vanilla, very solid, very stable. After this one I also want to try a newer kernel, maybe 3.0.

Is this a personal issue that a workaround solution should be sought out?
Is this a build issue that can be addressed?
Can't Shutdown, Reboot or Exit to Prompt
Hi again,
As I mentioned in my prior post, I can not create a SaveFile. Selecting Reboot drops my computer into a Dark Grey Screen in which it hangs. As some people on the Lighthouse 64-Bit thread were experiencing similar problems, albeit those with nVidia graphics, I decided to try the approach suggested there: adding "nomodeset pfix=vesa, ram" to boot parameters, create a SaveFile, Reboot, exit to prompt, and call Xorgwizard.
No go. Both Shutdown and and exit to prompt results in hung computer.
Am I the only one experiencing this problem with Slacko?
Does similar occurrences on latest sPup and 64-bit builds suggest a woof-build problem? Kernel-choice problem?
If so, might I suggest that solving it should take precedence as being able to create a SaveFile is central to Puppy, and Ati Radeon Graphics are rather common.

Good news.
Guys, Mick (01micko) helped and helps on Lucid
and he also has to work to support his family and Puppy addiction . . .
I know he values your compiling, testing and other efforts and encouragement. Thanks igu, no rush really . . .

Just built a barebones dpup, building the font packages right now
Once these are ready, I'm gonna build E17 and make the first dpup with E17 ... and a 64-bit kernel
EDIT: uploading! 100 TTF fonts in one SFS, here. It includes DejaVu, Liberation, Libertine, Ubuntu, FreeFont and Luxi.

64bit, then ARM, then tablets, then Smart phonesOnce these are ready, I'm gonna build E17 and make the first dpup with E17 ... and a 64-bit kernel
then Puppy world domination . . .
Barry has just bought a 64bit machine
We might get Woof 64
Downloading the fonts - many thanks.
If you like E17 - try Gnome 3

Sorry Guys
Normal Slacko service is now resumed
PUI
Oh dear!
After many hours trying to debug Puppy Universal Installer i found the bug ( my fault)
When installing pemasu's new gparted in the woof build system there isn't a gparted.xpm icon in /usr/local/lib/X11/mini-icons! Put one there and PUI is fixed
It is a bug in the old gtkdialog2 really, it should just ignore a missing pixmap and keep going, instead it complains and wont display the gui, messing PUI!

mikesLr.. I'd be interested to hear your feedback about your experience with other pups using newer kernels. I want to narrow this down to a kernel issue or an spup xorg issue. I can put in code that will boot your setup to a desktop but then it breaks things for older radeons, which I have and so too yarddog from memory (see old spup 100 thread). Barry has an experimental Wary posted (see his blog) with the 2.6.39.3 kernel. It boots the old way with all the questions before you get a desktop but if that works then i could possibly put in code that prevents radeons booting straight to desktop.
sszindian.. I am looking for a developer for the "Cloud" app.. I can help with coding. Interested? (I'll get onto Iron browser soon, sorry for delays, very busy )
There will hopefully be a new alpha tonight with usb booting fixed and the PUI fix.
I can put in the latest Seamonkey too but it bloats the iso by 4 meg. Other than that I could put in Firefox and Sylpheed for a 1 meg reduction but we lose composer, a very handy feature of the Seamonkey suite.
What I really want to do is develop a "browserdrive" sfs that is on the cd but loads like a zdrv (which we have). Then it can be unloaded and you can then install any browser you want. It's a kind of "best of both worlds" scenario where puppy comes with a browser but it's not hard coded into the main sfs. It may even be possible to include it in the zdrv and then use technosaurus' "zdrv cutter" app to eliminate the browser. (May suggest this to BK). This may have to wait for a newer version as it will take a lot of development.
