Whirled Frisbee as suggested and happy to report it gives both a persistent and permanent wifi connection on this laptop.....01micko wrote:You can give frisbee a whirl if you want. In Slickpet.peebee wrote:
SNS settings are persistent thru reboot but I have had to install the Stay-Connected pet to get the connection permanent.

Just a question about the version number.
Is 310 the correct one or is this a typo and should it be 130, the previous one being 120.

Installed this slacko.
At the end of the first session a save file was created.
But instead of rebooting, as I wanted to do, I got a black screen and the system had to be forced to power off.
When booting again, I got the desktop and the save file was ok.
Then I saw I had no sound. In the mixer I saw the master volume was muted.
Vattery presents a white battery icon in the system tray indicating a charge of 98%
dhcpcd isn't at the latest level.
wpa_supplicant isn't at the latest version either.
Will monitor if I have connection loss.
My application setup is working ok.

downloaded iso and devx with good sumchecks. Frugal hdd install to ext4 manually copied files. would not recognize my troublesome HP broadcom wl wifi dirver. did recognize usb ar9170usb after I manually loaded it. updated packages, downloaded and installed several. rebooted but failed to recognize usb wifi and unable to load the driver. lsmod showed car19710 at usbcore but unable to rmmod. deleted save file started over but would not recognize usb wifi.
Have you got a wl driver for this kernel?
-------
just read in another thread about creating a save file then set up wifi...might try that

I have just compiled and uploaded wl driver, get it here and let me know if it works. You may have to blacklist b43 and perform other magic tricks, search some of tempestuous' threads for more info.

seamonkey-2.2 is freshly uploaded too.

First, the version increase is intentional
Wifi has been troublesome on certain drivers, for example, with my tp-link usb sticks (rt73) if I move far from the router then it can be crappy, whereas on my eee-701SD (r8180) I can move to the bottom of my back yard and still surf, upload, download comfortably with no dropouts.. been running it 3 days non-stop, not a single dropout, other gear seems ok too. I did try a newer dhcpcd with no difference. That's why I compiled all the frisbee deps and introduced it.. it is much better on my tp-link usb sticks. Intel wifi seems ok. HTH.
Cheers

Did fresh boot no save file it recognized ar9170usb wlan0 on usb so did nothing but shutdown making a savefile. on reboot it acts possessed. did not see the usb wlan0 could not bring it up with sns, network wizard or manually. Looks like carl9170 may have been conflicting.

Installed Frisbee spup pet and bamb connected.
For those in a similar situation...
1) Try the Dougal Network Wizard which works for me all the time when SNS fails.
2) if that fails install Frisbee from Slickpet
3) if they both fail try tempestuous' "How to connect to wifi from the command line" in the HOWTO forum

Thank for the info on the version n°. You like to leap jump.01micko wrote:Béèm
HTH.
Cheers
As for the connection, I could run yesterday without drop-out.
To day on boot, my connection was up and running.
It still runs without drop-out for several hours now.
So this is promising (using SNS)

I do have to contact Joe about some other issues. I will add this to the list. Reminds me of the pixman issue we had a year or more ago. Pixman has been updated several times since then, Jwm not.zigbert wrote:It seems that JWM troubles with semi-transparent pngs????

Tried the universal installer . . .
I don't use this much
but it got to the stage where it should have installed from the CD
to the sdc1 (usb flash drive)
instead it tried installing from sr0 to sr0 (the CD to the CD)
see enclosed pic
Anyone else install to USB flash successfully?

erm .. 'yes' as a matter of fact. Just trying one shortly with Barry's latest woof (from about an hour and a half ago).. still a bit hot! (ouch! .. note to self, differentiate between keyboard and cooking pot [lobster inserted ])Anyone else install to USB flash successfully?
BUT.. on a second look at your screeny there is something wrong.. the 2 slashes (//) together indicate a missing variable... the plot thickens...
EDIT: Fantastic news! it appears Barry has fixed USB booting . That may or may not fix your bug Lobster but we'll get that sorted sooner or later.

Hi 01micko,
Your latest is super. My frugal installation booted perfectly and has worked flawlessly. Nvidia driver is great.
I tried a USB installation, however the Puppy Universal Installer cannot access /mnt/home/spup or maybe see the flash drive sdc1 although Pmount sees it. Also tried using a CD and received error "Sorry, Puppy is not on the CD."
Checked it out on a Dell System that has a wireless connection to test Frisbee. Could not find Frisbee, and I was unable to get an internet connection using the other tools. Frisbee has been successful getting and maintaining an internet connection on the Dell with Fatdog64 and Polarpup using a Belkin N300 Wireless USB Adapter. See Image-1.
EDIT: Tried again after creating a pupsave. SNS successfully connected to the internet. Then used PPM to install Frisbee and it works fine.
Consider using tazoc’s wcpufreq-0.7 application in lieu of the presently installed one. Necessary for those that have multiple core cpu. Image-2.
@Nvidia users--After installation of the new driver, /usr/share/applications/nvidia-settings.desktop file needs to be edited in order for it to show up properly in the menu. Categories needs to be changed to:
