What to do with obsolete and unmaintained junk in the wiki?
yes the wikka on puppylinux.org is the current one.
there has been comment that wikka isn't very good. So any input about alternatives welcome.
---
if you have any pages on pupweb to move puppylinux, now is the time to do it.
If you know of any pages that have been transfered add the CategoryMigratedToNewWiki to the old page, see-
http://pupweb.org/wikka/CategoryMigratedToNewWiki

Can this sort of index be used on the wiki?
I find alphabetic indexes much simpler
http://wiki.winehq.org/TitleIndex?allpages=1
aside/
Also, re: possible PLUG section, I'm hoping Coolpup has been made aware of this, as WhoDo seems to want to use the WIKI for sorting problems/solutions
maybe something like this -
http://linux-wless.passys.nl/
With modified dropdown boxes, for, e.g. Puppy series, version, derivative, kernel, particular hardware, and whether compatible/problem, or fixed?
I also like the 'complete list' button going to a full list on a new page, with quickview coloured indexing
Big ask I know, but that's what needs doing, so is the wiki suited or no?
It has been suggested we need a section/pages where only admins/devs have write permission, and for everyone else read only, so I have to ask if that's possible, too
research!
thanks
edit: oops, I'd changed your name to darkstrike....dunno where that came from

A - is this the sort of thing you mean for index-
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/PageIndex ?
B - I'm not sure the best way to communicate with coolpup, occasionally they respond to wiki comments
C - Dropboxs connect to database - not easy on wiki
D - there are different levels of user/admin admins can lock pages. this only as good as the admin-ship
; -)

Well, yes, except for searching alphabetically
We used to have a left hand column, as I remember, on the earlier version, which linked straight to what I was after....now it just seems more chaos
What is happening with categories - CategoryCategory:?
I spent a lot of time helping to get a multilingual section done, but it's no longer there?
Seems like discord amongst wiki admins again, is Oui still admin, too?
I'd best be quiet...

dokuwiki
Yes, getting hands on work is the key. After all, volunteers get the work done, but hey, they are not perfect. (And whose standard is "perfection" anyway? )
My only request for now is for the casual observer to avoid passing judgment on actually working people (they are hardworking volunteers). Please suggest specific action that can be done and avoid general statements.
And the wiki with a side menu was part of the CMS (Drupal) that was too complex to maintain and was already abandoned long ago. (If you want to get the database dump, just PM me.)
To get started with a wiki for the PLUG that you can tweak to your satisfaction, why not head over to puppylinux.org/dokuwiki and start talking to oui? Go to this discussion.
Or you can stay with the current wiki at puppylinux.org/wikka:
1. Make sure that you are registered
2. Create a page by typing the url
puppylinux.org/wikka/MyNewPage
(supply the page name that you want)
3. Make that new page useful and watch it closely (no admin can do that for you)
4. If the page becomes truly useful, one of the admins may want to link to that from the front page
Maybe it is too much to offer a reminder that "stars" are earned in this community via meritorious work, but then some people seem to forget.
EDIT: Fixed the link to the "Existing Wiki" discussion.

Puppy user since Oct 2004. Want FreeOffice? [url=http://puppylinux.info/topic/freeoffice-2012-sfs]Get the sfs (English only)[/url].
there are some language pages likeI spent a lot of time helping to get a multilingual section done, but it's no longer there?
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/fr
but the categoryFR has been deleted and so its not obvious what is and what is not. What is your wikiname I can check if your pages have been deleted?
I have an idea for language support- but I need code to grab and modify the browsers current url??
code
@Aitch: Link corrected (see my post above).
@darkcity: Aitch's name in the wiki is Aitch
Here are the codes for getting the page URL:
http://www.webcheatsheet.com/PHP/get_current_page_url.php

raffy,
thanks - I have a wry smile at the fact that you use the forum to sort WIKI things out, yet propose using the WIKI to sort out forum proposals for PLUG......maybe get the WIKI sorted first, as the forum is currently more reliable/better visited?
I've addressed that here
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=69928
thanks
[btw, I've had pm confirmation of support from ttuuxxx]

social person
You used to be the "social" person here, meaning, that you welcome newbies, congratulate devs, and cool off debates, but now you seem to be ordering people around. The spirit of my post above is that you yourself should experiment with what you want the PLUG to be. You started the idea of using the wiki for PLUG, please refer to your post above.Aitch wrote:raffy,
