How to use ASUS USB-n10 wireless in Lucid 525?

#1 Post by puppybaker »

I just downloaded, burned and installed the new version of puppy (Lucid525)
I using a live CD for now. Fires right up!
I need wireless so I got a ASUS usb-n10, which has a Linux driver on the CD.
I see the adaptor under hardware, but it is not recognized, because I cannot figure out how to add the driver to the existing driver library.
I did remove the existing eth0 driver module.
If I have the new unzipped driver in a folder on the desktop can I drag it to the driver library?
I just need portable e-mail and web access so I dug up an old dell inspiron 1150.
I evidently will never learn the syntax of the command line.
I have also searched extensively, but the language is beyond me.
I have not tried the ndiswrapper method for the same reason.
This would make a perfect script (sticky)
Help!

The linux driver is on which CD? The puppy live CD?

If you run the network wizard isn't there a network device detected?
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

driver install

#3 Post by puppybaker »

thanks for the reply.
The driver I want to try is on the asus CD along with the windows drivers.
Of course the windows driver has an .exe installation. But----
I copied the linux driver to my desktop in Puppy.
Network devices does not see my usb adaptor.
I think it is because I don't have a driver installed.
I do not know how to move, copy or drag the Linux driver to the Puppy module where the rest of the drivers are.
I need a terminal script for moving the driver .
(because I'm old and I'm not going to learn the command line stuff.
I just want portable wireless internet)
Thanks again for any suggestions (or a script)

The puppy desktop doesn't behave like a Windows desktop. No files can be stored on it, only symlinks.

That linux driver isn't necessarily compatible with puppy.
What is the name of that driver?
Is that driver a binary one or is it source code?

Maybe your best bet is to use the windows driver through the network wizard and configuring with ndiswrapper.

You need the Realtek 8712u wifi driver. It's available for Puppy 5.1/5.2 here -
