gparted 8.0 installed and only ext2,3,4,fat16,fat32,ntfs, linuxswap available to format a partition. No resier4, resierfs, etc offered. But does recognize resierfs partition. added gparted 8.1 with same results.

iirc gparted in knoppix 6.5 and earlier offers resier formatting options.

Jim3630. Also the support what kernel offers determines what filesystems the OS recognizes. I dont remember what options were enabled in Lucid Puppy kernel.

Guys, you really should try Libreoffice 4.3.1. It's simply awesome!

On my poor N450 netbook the startup times of Writer are equal to those of Abiword and it's simply tiny! I got pretty much the whole Libreoffice stuffed in a 90 MB XZ-compressed package.

Now I'm fixing my Libreoffice build script, I want to produce a "lite" SFS with just Writer, Calc and Impress. :)

Hehe ... yep :)

Had that typo in my build script too ... I think it's very clear why this happened

mplayer

#231 Post by sszindian »

playdayz: OK... installing gnome-mplayer-1.0.3-lucid525 eliminated the video/audio sync problem! I was wrong thinking it wasn't the mplayer!!! It must have been!

In my research on Linux shutdown... the command:
'# bash -h shutdown now'
shuts down a Linux program properly... our terminal (in help) doesn't have a 'shutdown' command available! Could that be missing from puppy linux itself or the kernel? It seems if that was implemented a no-save-shutdown would be rather easy to include in the menu... yes?... no?

pemasu: That NoBlankScreen-1.0.pet is the one I mentioned about earlier... It 'Doesn't Work in 260/262' It worked in 525 in the final puppy but only for a short while then it turned south and worked no more, no idea why?

Note also using latest Pfbpanel from Stu90, so able to display CPU temp in taskbar. Full transparency of taskbar too.
Overall runs about 5 deg hotter than Spup, but all Lucids do this. Video performance re-sizing windows is very very good.
Opera 11.50, simple download of .deb from Opera site unpacked to mnt/home and symlinked. Performance is excellent. Chromium 14 not so much.
Suspect mplayer will put its cache in /root/ and bork my save file when watching a big video download :) Will test it next.......

DaveS, downloaded

"Unpack script make executable and move to /usr/sbin" after make executable, click on it and dialog box ask if want unpacked....original package will be deleted. I click yes and nothing seems to happen and the original package remains in /usr/sbin

can not get that so useful cpu temp gauge. how did you do that?

pemasu makes perfect sense as resier type file systems are all but dead so have heard.

what should look at in testing gparted?

Here you go. Just re-name this to pfbpanel without the .zip check it is executable, and move it to /usr/sbin. Allow it to overwrite the existing, then just click on it.

Jim3630. About Qparted. It is partitioning and filesystem making tool. Best test is to the format some drive or usb stick, create filesystems ext2, ext3, ext4, give bootable flag and test that puppy installation boots from that filesystem.

connection with Frisbee

Béèm, Have you tried Frisbee?
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 35&t=64472
Over time I tried a frisbee 5.2 beta pet, but I think it was beta 1.
But the problem didn't go away.

Will try this beta 2 one.

@Iguleder.
I followed quite a while pemasu's cold puppy's and I didn't have much problems anymore. These puppy's use frisbee.

So frisbee beta 2 could well be a solution
In order to continue testing Frisbee beta 2 I didn't install 262 yet.
Now some 24 hours later and having worked a lot on internet today, I kept a stable connection.

So Frisbee beta 2 seems to be a solution.

@playdayz, why not include it in further developments?

Hi playdayz,

Everything appears to be working fine on my main system which is connected to a wired LAN connection. However, with a frugal installation on wife's Dell Dimension E510 on an NTFS partition everything appears to work fine with one glaring exception. Internet setup does not recognize my Wifi network, so no internet access. It does not see the Belkin Wireless USB Adapter N300. As you can see below there are a number of WPA and WEP connections available. This is posted from Fatdog 64-520 b3 from the Dell.

Regards,
Jim

I havent had time to download latest isos. But....

sszindian. What does which xset tells you. For me in my puppy:
sh-4.1# which xset
/usr/bin/xset
If luci-262 have it, then xset s off -dpms should disable screensaver.

Yes, there is a usr/bin/xset in 262

I did a '# xset version' in terminal and got this so I take it if I type in '-dpms' that will disable the no-blanking yes? If yes, how do you turn it back on? and... get it into a menu-entry? I'm not a programmer pemasu so if it's possible, someone else will have to do it that knows how!!!!!

'thanks'

Posting from Luci-262 now, pfix=ram.Apparently, on this particular machine/videocard combination, booting straight to the desktop results in a 800x600 desktop.Running xorgwizard then results in the loss of icons,Openbox errors,etc..
Booting pfix=nox, ram then running xorgwizard and choosing Vesa is a no go as well.
But, booting pfix=nox,ram...running xorgwizard,"probe","1440x900" results in Vesa being used anyway and a 1600x1200 desktop with icons.Installing the correct Nvidia driver then brings the correct 1440x900 resolution.

Anyway,it was a bit of a runaround but things are working well now. :) Uptime over an hour so far...no other problems.
