Drake Puppy feedback
Acer 5820TG laptop. Touchpad, wireless, seamonkey working fine. I havent got yet synaptics-synclien-flsynclient chain to work but touhpad movements are quite right anyway. Sound works. Older flashplayer and also the latest flashplayer works without errors. Xerrs.log does not accumulate any new errors. Libpng error were there after the boot.
Devx and kernel sourxe sfs loaded. Acpi_call module compiled and loaded. Works. Cpu temp under 50 c, Battery status comes from conky nicely.

Acer Netbook D250 with N270 Atom CPU and Intel video chips.
I was lazy and just upgraded from 001 instead of doing a pfix=ram.
I just tested if Seamonkey could do streaming of local TV station and it did.
So most likely it is a good version.

Drake puppy 03
Drake pup 03 running smooth on my old 1.5 celeron . no issues to report . I'll say this : Its real smooth running for a beta .

I decided to run Drake Pup 0.3 from a multi-session dvd on the old dual-core. The only minor problems so far were the internet connection wasn't detected on boot....used SNS so real quick fix...... and sound was muted...just had to check "center" in Retrovol and adjust the slider.Otherwise, looking really good so far.
Already saved a couple of sessions to dvd so no problems there either.

James C. now I should say nothing I am a poor reader of English but AFAIK Barry have not joined the idea that one should get internet automatically. so most likely it is set up that way by default. A wanted feature seen from the Dev's point of view? I could be wrong thoughThe only minor problems so far were the internet connection wasn't detected on boot

ISA-bus sound fails
0.3 runs as smoothly as version 0.1, or a bit faster.
I see some problems, however:
1. On a PII 256 MB Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop, the ISA-bus sound driver (snd_opl3sa2, snd_opl3_lib) seems loaded but Retrovol does not even appear. If I run Retrovol from terminal window, I get segmentation fault error. Alsa Sound Wizard recognizes the sound chip then also reports Retrovol segfault.
2. Under VirtualBox (and maybe elsewhere?), Retrovol appears but forgets the settings after reboot. Configured again, valid for the session only.
Edit:
3. The URL of pet_packages-common is wrong. Should be, e.g., http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/pet_packages-common
Thus, package manager returns with an error message. See the picture below.
4. ROX focus problem still exists but rox_filer-201012git-patched.pet crashes the app.

But Drake is not supposed to is it. As I get it Drake is a modern way to have a Puppy that can use Mandrake Linux which turned into Mandriva which turned into Mageia? So depending on the kernel and drivers and so on I don't trust Barry targetted very old CPU and only 256?1. On a PII 256 MB
Or maybe he did. I should have read the blog entry. I would try Wary Puppy on your computer

Bugs:
1) Same problem with remasterpup2 I had mentioned here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... &start=180
2) Timezone-set crashes. Missing files in directories (/usr/share/zoneinfo/DIR/*).
Dialog gets empty list (variable) and it crashes.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs
First of all did a live-CD run with pfix=ram.
Same slow-scrolling video as with the earlier version.
I then went for a version upgrade of the old pup_save. This older pup_save had already been used along with the original devx_sfs - the use of which seemed to cure the ATI Radeon video scrolling problem. This improvement was sustained over the version-upgrade (no surprise really). The Xorg setup probably needs fixing at some point. The new single-image partition icons didn't appear to carry over from the version upgrade though. Dunno, maybe it did carry over and only retains the original icon appearance with the green indicators showing that a partition is mounted (instead of the new integrated 'x' symbol).
Then installed LibreOffice writer via PPM using th Mageia packages. Install was fine. Runs very fast as well. Only thing missing was the LibreOffice-java-common package. I installed this separately, which then allowed the Gdocs LibreOffice extension (created by P. Rumik) to be installed. Also runs fine.
All in all a fine rough diamond, well deserving of further attention from the developer community, seeing that Barry is snowed under with stuff to do.
I disagree with those who say that there are too many Puppy Linux variants. I don't think you can have too many flavours of Puppy. Availability of choice is what has carried this distro to the position in which it finds itself today.
I should really try to make time to co-ordinate on-going development of this version. Depends on work commitments etc. etc.

No PAE on Pentium M ???
I'm not a hardware specialist, but, could you provide some information on YOUR processor. As far as I know, ALL Intels since 1995 had PAE.rjbrewer wrote:Pentium M 1.6ghz, single core.

Could there be a BIOS option problem here? Or maybe a firmware problem?
Or, just maybe, Intel may NOT have included this is this run of Pentium M. You may want to check the Intel site or the PC's site for update to this OTB CPU feature.
Hope this helps

No! Not all intels had PAE.
Check number 41 in this list; check inspiron 8600 while you're at it.
