And have you made xorg.conf file with composite enabled ? Maybe playing with that xcompmgr and gcompmgr. Disabling that composite row have been suggested also in my searches.
Your faced problem seems to find certain older Nvidia cards when I searched the net.
Have you downloaded the latest Nvidia package for your card and compiled it yourself ?
Or it can be that this kernel just dont like your new comp.
I used Billtoo's technique here using the latest Nividia driver for my card, NVIDIA-Linux-x86.270.41.19, which worked fine with Polar Pup, Ice Puppy, and Snow Puppy. Incidentally, prior to installing the NVIDIA driver, glxgears did run, but gave an error message. I'll try to duplicate the message and post it here.

With pfix=ram, Glxgear ran without an error message. When a save file was created and the following items were loaded by bootmanager:
devx_lupu_001.sfs
kernel_src-2.6.35.7-patched-lupe5.sfs (Is this the correct kernel?)

This error message was then generated (No NVIDIA driver had been loaded):
sh-4.1# glxgears
2590 frames in 5.0 seconds
2690 frames in 5.0 seconds
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 13851 requests (8333 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
Executing glxgears again resulted in no error message.
sh-4.1# glxgears
2527 frames in 5.0 seconds
3014 frames in 5.0 seconds
3031 frames in 5.0 seconds
3038 frames in 5.0 seconds
3031 frames in 5.0 seconds
3039 frames in 5.0 seconds

Thanks,
Jim

Playdayz. I was just guessing and I thought that you have compiled that version also yourself.
I understand about yours. But does the Firefox 5.0 work? I am waiting to download--it looks like you are currently uploading.

Hi pemasu,

Midnight Pup 001, v3 did not have any glxgears errors prior to installing NVIDIA driver, however, it gives this message after installation of the driver:

sh-4.1# glxgears
Xlib: extension “GLX

Jim1911. Ok. I suppose I need to upload the Midnight Sun Pup with better connection. I am afraid the uploads are not sane with this connection in the summer house.

Yes, I just tested and the Firefox 5.0 pet seems to work fine--but of course you already have FF 5 built in. Also the current Chromium 14 pet also works. Good deal. I was afraid there was something I was missing (ha-ha, something 'else" I was missing).

Beautiful Pup, btw. Thanks.

Oh, and I also fixed the Chromium 14 sfs for anyone who prefers that.

Playdayz, good to hear browsers are working. Yep, I dowloaded the official FF 5 also. I have used it whole day without a glitch. Plays flash, browsing, downloading allright, and it has been stable whole day.

Thanks also about the lookout. I have changed quite a lot since latest Snow Puppy, so that it feels slightly different.

At least as much as you can do with JWM and Icewm. Those will be my chosen wm's still.

Midnight Sun Pup-001

#45 Post by Billtoo »

Frugal install to hp desktop.
I installed the devx_lupu_001.sfs and
kernel_src-2.6.35.7-patched-lupe5.sfs files.
I downloaded the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-275.09.07.run and installed it:

Wed 29 Jun 2011 Operating System: Midnight Sun Pup-001 Linux 2.6.35.7
0.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT 220] (rev a2)
oem: NVIDIA product: GT216 Board - 0682vb12 Chip Rev

X Server: Xorg Driver: nvidia
X.Org version: 1.7.6
dimensions: 1280x1024 pixels (342x271 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes

direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
server glx version string: 1.4
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce GT 220/PCI/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 275.09.07

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500
Core 0: 2200 1: 2200 MHz

...the above also recorded at '/tmp/root/report-video-glx'.
sh-4.1# glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
31315 frames in 5.0 seconds
31352 frames in 5.0 seconds
31325 frames in 5.0 seconds

I had to re-download the midnightsunpup-001.iso and start over because
the first attempt booted up okay but couldn't find any network
interfaces, it's working okay this time.

pemasu I'm just having my first look at Midnight Sun, very nice.

I haven't been able to break so it's pretty solid. All the important things like the browser, wifi, graphics all work fine.

I did notice the Quit button in Partview does not work.

Puppy Help 101 seems to work well. I might have to make a special version for Midnight Sun to accommodate the additional software.

Very Impressive.

Smokey01. Thank you of your report and that you tested Midnight Sun Pup. If you have energy and time, I will be very happy your extended help manual. But that is up to you.

About that quit button. It is problem which came with my compiled gtkdialog3. It seems not work right.
I will revert it to the original in Midnight Sun Pup 002.
Meanwhile, grab /usr/sbin/gtkdialog3 from some other Puppy.

I dont post pet for it, because I will upload today next version.
It has Radkys newest updates included. PupShutdown and PupSnap has been updated.

pemasu,
I don't know if it is the same in all 'cold' puppy's.
In icepuppy dhcpcd isn't found because /usr/local/sbin is missing in the PATH.
You might check if it is OK in this summer puppy.

Beem. I will check if it is needed to have it on the path. I need to boot Fluppy and check if Jemimah has that /usr/local/sbin on the path.

I checked in the fluppy 013 sfs in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit and find:

Code: Select all

PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R7/bin
This seems illogical to me that /usr/local/sbin is missing also, cause when dhcpcd is executed from a console, dhcpcd isn't found.
I don't know how Frisbee copes with that.
