Fatdog64-520b1 is using xz compression, we may go back zlib compression for final. The xz compression could cause apps to launch a little slower. I haven't really noticed, so I'll be interested in feed back on that. Zlib compression will make the iso about 25MB bigger. That's not a big concern though.

Also,

There are no proprietary ATI or Nvidia pet packages yet. The ones in the repo are for 511 only.

I burned the Fatdog64-520b1.iso to a DVD+RW disk.
On boot chose the "fatdog nomodeset vesa, ram"
Loaded shinobar's sfs_load-1.1.pet
Used it to load fd64-devx_520.sfs
Downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-275.09.07.run from the nvidia web site
and exited to the prompt and installed it.
Hardinfo report:

Seems to have gone all the way to desktop...non-stop. Wow!

I will submit baseline system report(s) tomorrow.

Request: I believe JamesBond tested Shinobar's SFS-on-the-fly months ago. What is the chance that an SFS loader can be added for us Live media users, please. I would like to get the JRE onto this PUP and I will need to use the DEVX at some time for other needs. (Or maybe, these can be made PETs for our use.)

Thanks for what is looking like a splendid job, again.

In reading this, am I to be concerned about
  • the size of the 700MB CD?
  • the running RAM use (1GB+ for all 64bit PCs)?
  • or the download impact?
I want to have a good base understanding of what to pay attention to as i go forward in measurements.

As I understand your caution on the video PETs, should we also avoid the other PETs in the REPO while testing this 520beta version for you?

Just trying to have a clear picture on how to help, that's all.

Thought I would try the ATI anyway Embarassed
Managed to get to the desktop but glxgears is showing a segment fault (fair enough). My glxgears reading had been about 8000 FPS. The screen redraws in both Openshot and JWM were slow - you would notice the screen redrawing when moving windows . . . (maybe a .5 second to 1 second)

Yep straight to desktop AND Ethernet connection (persistent after reboot) I had to change both locale and keyboard (from setup menu) to get an ampersound (@)
Lucid does this well but straight (and I mean straight) to desktop is advantageous too . . .

Also new password, downloading to HD instead of personal storage and spot linked to download all reminded me of greater security in Fatdog. That 'no screensaver' program in the menu is so simple - and so useful when watching larger videos. Icepup has it. Every puppy deserves one.

Transmission does not have a menu icon in JWM

I am still using https://lastpass.com to save my passwords in the cloud
(yep all you tin hats, some of us is crazy) My exported HTML bookmarks became corrupted again - but James Bond helped me understand that one in a previous 64bit thread . . . (uploaded an earlier HTML) Nothing do with Fatdog - just coincidental trivia . . .

One thing I would draw peoples attention to is the monkey server.
64bit server Puppy style. Do you use it, what for?

Fatdog is the featured puplet on the wiki
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/
and is used as for Lighthouse 64

Very happy to be trying out the latest 64bit Puplet
- must have another go with kino . . . Smile

Confused FF (sure it is the 'not appropriate' ATI driver) caused a BSOD when I came back after brekkie. So I rebooted (after trying for the command line)

I rebooted with the option 'puppy pfix=ram'. However my settings seem to have been retained. I seem to remember I should get rid of any FD64 remnants on the HD - so gonna try that . . .

I burned the Fatdog64-520b1.iso to a new DVD+RW disk.
I booted it with "fatdog pfix=ram"
It went to the desktop so I rebooted and saved to the cd (dvd)
It created a folder on the dvd, didn't get prompted for password or
domain name change.
Booted with no parameters and it went straight to the desktop.

PostPosted: Tue 21 Jun 2011, 14:28    Post subject: discrepancies in reports

@Billtoo. I'm sure you have probably already noticed it, but can you think of why the in-use RAM count ("used") is different for the 2 PCs? Is it the applications you may be running or something to do with number of processor cores?

Only 1 minor problem: Xarchiver menu items (2 of them)
Thanks in advance.
P.S. My report is attached. I am awaiting instructions on PETs.

I don't know for sure but must be something like that.
The pictures show htop just after booting up on each pc and htop is the only thing running.

Wow. It booted right up. Frisbee set up the eth0 network (on 511 there had been some trouble with the wlan network not being persistent on reboot, which I will check).

Video was spot on, radeon at 1280x960.

<Add> Perhaps not spot on. When I drag a window by the titlebar, it moves very jerkily--it seems to take along time to redraw the window, and then it is redrawn in the next position--not at all smooth. Also, the rox window is scrolling jerkily, but the Firefox window scrolls normally--if that means anything.

<Add2> Using the radeonhd driver as kirk says below solved this video problem.

FD64 has the latest kernel going I think with 2.6.38.8.

I see there is a new Firefox 5 beta to compile. I'll try to make a vanilla one so that FD64 users can all try it. Thanks kirk.

btw, Here are the Audacious sources

First impressions. My wireless connection does not drop !!! This is the first Fatdog with I can browse, download and let idle without losing my ath9k wireless driver achieved net connection. Thank you.
Kernel 2.6.38.8 works as good as I have noticed with my own plays.
Just downloading devx sfs to do first kernel module compile.

Frisbee, it feels like I am at home, lol. Good choice.

/etc/init.d/BC-wl is masterpiece. Can I steal your great code. I have compiled wl module to all my builds and I would need that clever code.

Gnumeric needs that from .desktop file Exec=gnumeric %F has been removed. As you know, it gives error.

Changed to JWM, quite many icons are missing but dont affect funcionality, of course.

/usr/local/bin/rox-firefox is something which I find achieves the Downloads folder to be opened. Can I ask is there something else which is needed. That is great improvement.

gFTP works, connects. Nothing to upload....yet. Hmmm. Fotoxx needs updating....Flsyncient does not give full kick. I have to set movement to the top right. Hmm...it seems I cant get it to run now to see right expression. Maybe X restart is needed.

Anyway my Acer Aspire 5820TG hw is nicely supported.

I tried to use /usr/sbin/xorgwizard, it didnt do anything. Maybe in your FAQ is explanation. xorgwizard-old launches, but does not give option to specify driver. And after using it starting X hangs. Maybe it did create xorg.conf, I didnt check, I just rebooted and started again.

But I suppose I have intel driver used as it should.

Looks, tastes and feels good. And fast like FastDOG64. This should be named Saluki, I think.

I forgot to update .jwmrc, it's done now.

You men fatdog pfix=ram if booting from CD or just pfix=ram from GRUB.

Was that with a Nvidia card too?

Did it work the same with 511, without the proprietary ATI driver? If not can you try booting with radeon.modeset=1 and let me know if it's any better?

I've also uploaded these packages: (Mostly development stuff)

bazaar-2.2.3.pet
codeblocks-10.05-release-x86_64.pet
firefox-4.0.1_devx.pet
fltk-1.1.10-x86_64.pet
fltk-1.3-x86_64.pet
gtksourceview-2.10.5-x86_64.pet
libgee-0.6.0-x86_64.pet
raptor2-2.0.0-x86_64.pet
rasqal-0.9.25-x86_64.pet
redland-1.0.13-x86_64.pet
audacious64-2.5.1.pet

I've modified the Downloads folder on the desktop to except drag and drop.
