ROX detailed view, column ordering [SOLVED]

#1 Post by sc0ttman »

When you click on the 'Show extra details' button in the toolbar of the ROX file manager, your files are listed with all details, such as size, date, permissions and so on.

Changing the width of these columns is easy, but how do you change the order??

Just to be clear, I am talking about moving the 'permissions', 'owners' and 'group' headings to appear to the right of the 'last modified' heading.

EDIT::

Here is a recompiled version, with just what I want: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=57166

note, the package above only works with Lupu, but sources are further down the page, you can compile for your pup...

I might try in pup4 and re-post it, so everyone can use it
(unless someone wants to beat me to it...) ;)

Thanks guys! especially otter and davids45

Do you mean, rather than the file name being the first column, you want one of the other parameters to be the first column?

If you right click in a ROX window and choose Options, there are a lot of settings you can change. Maybe one of them is what you're looking for.

Just as in almost any other file manager:

Click on the column heading.

Ooops, Flash's idea didn't even occurr to me.

It behaves like a two dimension table. Click on the title (row) at the top of the column you want to sort. Click again to toggle sort ascending / descending.

Maybe you mean the order of the visible colums, like e.g. "Name, Size, Last Modified" instead of "Name, Type, Permissions, ..." .? This is something, I'm interested.

I tried to find out, but failed. A good start for my search was the ROX-Filer help (the life belt icon). Either there is no possibility for changing or I've overlooked something.

G'day,

I hope this link might provide a patch/improved version for Rox that will still work and do what I think you'd like.

Pity it isn't part of the standard Rox (well, as far as I know).

ROX column ordering

#7 Post by Otter »

I have been using recompiled ROX for several months with both Wary and Lucid. I haven't experienced any problems with day to day use. However, when upgrading to Lucid525 it was necessary to redo the copy step for the recompiled ROX file after the upgrade has finished.

It would be nice if ROX had a simple way of reordering. I guess that is the price to pay for a small and fast file manager.

If anyone reading this talks to the ROX developers, maybe that person would be kind enough to ask if they'd incorporate this feature. (Also if they would make it so that when I drag an audio book directory containing several hundred mp3 files into my mp3 player, ROX loads the files in numerical order. Right now ROX seems to load them in semi-random order, which causes problems because all mp3 players seem to play files in the order they were loaded. :) )

Yes. :D

Thanks, davids45 for the link, and
thanks, Otter for providing this.

I just tried it in Icepuppy and it works fine. For me, this ordering is much more useful. Good work.

Of course, an easy way of free reordering columns would be better, but I've learned that 'I can't always get what I want'

Have a nice time

Rhadon. Thank you of your information about usage of Otter`s recompilation in Icepuppy and davids45 to pointing to right thread. I just tested the recompiled Rox-filer binary in Polarpup and it seems to work. Also all the other information in this thread was clarifying.
