Any suggestion how to boot it in frugal install
on ntfs?

Did you get Flash to work out of the box or
did you have to download flash using apt-get
and a lot of special cli code in the terminal?

Mot likley one have to install flash But how?

I will download the CD version now because
there is something knoppix that I like. Not that
I use it other than for a test but it could be good
to have if one need some software that does not
work in Puppy?

It doesn't have Swedish keyboard? Unless one know
how to activate it.

I trust one can do it easier but it did boot frugally on HD

You are a GEM. That solved swedish keyboard.
Now I only need to find where to downlaod Flashplayer
and how to change the screen resolution. i've looked and looked.

Last time they had a description how to apt-get flash
But I fail to remember.
One more How does one set up the Firewall?

Puppy has a forum that makes one learn such sooner or later.
While at Knoppix they sometimes are so condescendign that
I rewfuset to join. One guy that asked for iso booting or something
got so badly treated that I almost wanted to find the guy who
answered and to smak him in his face. Since then I don't want
even to read there in case that guy still answer firt timers.

Apart from that Knoppix is very good for being multiuser.

Downloading of Flash being discussed on the Knoppix forum today.

2 methods apparently.

Method 1: Install via Install-Components (a menu item presumably). This will apparently change IceWeasel to IceApe - don't ask!

Method 2: Quote:
Installing flashplugin-nonfree with apt-get avoided the conversion from weasel to ape. I'm a bit unsure about a couple of things. Synaptic wouldn't run because of some obscure complaint, had to run aptitude update first to get it going.

Firewall:
google knoppix firewall and read the first post. It sounds horrible!

I where lazy so I did go Menu > Knoppix > Install components and there chose Flash.
As you warned me it installed IceApe instead which is a SeaMonkey. Sad story indeed.


Another guy there that is a teacher at a Tech Student Something.
He has build a KnoppixSlim that is super fat. 2GB so that is some
2000/700= 2.8 times bigger than the CD iso so how can that be slim?

Okay me mean in relation to Knoppix full being 9 GB or so?

Anyway he promise that Flash is built in from scratch and his variant
even easire to use than the standard.

Should that be trusted? Has any of you tested? Here is link.

My old reliable backup OS...... Mepis 11.

AntiX where very close to Mepis some years ago
but I guess the latest version is different enough
in that AntiX allow for doing frugal install and to
save on the NTFS harddisk? Does Mepis allow that?

Does it even boot frugally? Knoppix does that.

Right now I am using Puppy Linux 5.2.8 (005). I love the speed and simplicity! What I don't like is always hunting down puppy ready apps that I can use within puppy. That part I hate, but other than that, love it! I use it mainly from a CD with a save file on oner of my HD partitions.

What I look for in a distro is simplicity, speed and minimalism.

Another distro that I am trying again (had a bad time of it before), is bodhi linux 1.4.0. I installed it yesterday and wouldn't you know it, a major error occurred. The lead developer for Bodhi helped me out. I was unable to sety my background on my desktop. I was somewhat put off with that because you would think that something as simple as setting a desktop would cause problems.

What I would love to try is a minimalist distro that is rock solid, fast and simple to setup and maintain if there is such a thing.other than puppy linux.\

Any suggestions based on your experience? I come from a Mac OS background having used Macs since 1988. It's only during the past few months that I have really fallen in love with the Linux way of doing things. So much choice!!
